Questions that this Test asks

Is this the end of the road for our fast bowling unit trio as standalone selections?

Was Konstas a flash in the pan or is he a freak?

Can India regroup?

Will Starc get thru the game?

A) It should have been last summer when they refused to rotate bowlers
B) He is that good but I’m not expecting consistency for a year or so
C) Doubt it there’s something internal that’s not right
D) Define get through he averages 44 in Sydney anyway shouldn’t be playing

If you want three spinners it can be Lyon, Murphy and Head/Smith. I would have full confidence in all four of them to perform well.

Plenty of spin options in the squad without bringing in Webster who is no guarantee to succeed at test level.
If you’re playing 2 frontline spinners in Galle then the Bloke who misses out is the third quick. Webster is a direct swap for Marsh.

Small issue of Lyon isn’t Warne who rolled teams in the 4th innings. Lyon is good but let’s not pretend he’s going to roll teams. Smith doesn’t bowl anymore
Pitches are totally different nowadays. Warne was a level above Lyon but ultimately they sport completely different crafts of spin so comparisons such as yours are completely useless.

A good leggie (and boy they are hard to find) is so much more dangerous as they turn the thing both ways. Ashwin having a ball going the other way has helped him massively

He’s in the side now. Webster. Doubles as both. He’s a certain selection for SL. Connolly may go but it wouldn’t be to play.
The Manatee!!

Can’t and won’t have 3 off spinners Webster and Smith - has to be a left armer

Might have a nibble on Konstas u20.5 line.
The Form Guide would say…

Get on - split grip big gap between bat and pad and possibly surprised them first up. Looked average in the 2nd dig and didn’t try any trick shots. Bumrah will be waiting armed with more knowledge

78 is my guess

Would have been a handy game to unveil a young fast bowler. Unfortunately those things don’t happen for us.

We’ve gotta get Matt Kuhnemann in the side I reckon. Left arm spin and did well in India.

He had a good 23/24 but has been bog average this year. His selection is favoured due to the beige selection options currently, but he shouldn’t kid himself, there are dozens upon dozens of far superior cricketers who never played a test because the bar was where is should be to get a baggy.

In regards to his performance not mattering because he has a baggy, what a complete uneducated croc of shit. If he doesn’t perform he can be jeered at with the likes of Quiney, Hastings et al for being undeserving of Australian crickets highest achievement.

Each to their own but I’d rather have a baggy green than not.

You have obviously heard something about Starc unrelated to injury concerns.

NO of course not, he is still the best spinner of his era though. Capable of bowling a lot of overs and bowling sides out.

Marsh bowled 10 overs in the last test, 3 in Brisbane, 4 In adelaide, 17 in Perth.

You'd hope the all rounder we pick can really bat because batting is our weakness and we aren't massively relying on the all rounder to bowl. Especially if we are at the SCG and already have part time spinners.

I'm sure Smith could bowl a few overs. I'm sure Head could give us 10 overs give or take and probably buy a wicket or two at the SCG.
