NO of course not, he is still the best spinner of his era though. Capable of bowling a lot of overs and bowling sides out.

Marsh bowled 10 overs in the last test, 3 in Brisbane, 4 In adelaide, 17 in Perth.

You'd hope the all rounder we pick can really bat because batting is our weakness and we aren't massively relying on the all rounder to bowl. Especially if we are at the SCG and already have part time spinners.

I'm sure Smith could bowl a few overs. I'm sure Head could give us 10 overs give or take and probably buy a wicket or two at the SCG.

You need a genuine 5th bowler in Sydney with the key word being GENUINE not part time party pies from Lab or Smith. Webster has averaged 50+ with the bat the last 3 seasons.

I'm sorta expecting Konstas to be all over the shop for awhile I just hope the selectors have the guts to ride it out, it's not the 90's with a gazillion batters underneath making mountains of runs so stick with him.
He’s going to get a long run at it

The Form Guide would say…

Get on - split grip big gap between bat and pad and possibly surprised them first up. Looked average in the 2nd dig and didn’t try any trick shots. Bumrah will be waiting armed with more knowledge

Agree. Kerry O'Keefe article about him struggling at the u19 world cup and thats how he went out 6 /7 games opening means there is a serious technical flaw there. Bumrah will be hitting that spot an awful lot.

Not sure if this was mentioned as part of the discussion on the previous test thread - interesting if true

I would be a little, but not highly, surprised if that happens for a must-win game. Both his dismissals in Melbourne were bad, and the second innings one was the trigger for India losing the game. But he has been getting regular starts and other dismissals across the series have not been so ridiculous.
Its hard to see how he gets dropped and Rohit, even if he is captain, doesn't. 30 then stupid is more valuable than 3 then out.

I don't recall seeing Jurel keep wicket, presumably similar standard to Pant.

I don't class him as an allrounder at all.

He's a bat that can bowl.
Maybe like Trav Head.
Head is a bat who bowls a bit. Can bowl is a stretch - just because his fc average has gone below 60 doesn’t stop him being the fifth worst bowler in history.

On a turning deck ANYWHERE you need 2 frontline spinners. Not 1 frontline spinner and 2 part timers.

Sydney is just another game in Australia.

Sri Lanka, we’ll need 2 frontline spinners. I, also, would prefer a leftie to partner Lyon. Harsh on Murphy but that’s the way it goes.

Kuhne or Rocca , I’d be comfortable with either.
Kuhne bowled pretty well in India when he got his chance, so did Murphy though.

He had a good 23/24 but has been bog average this year. His selection is favoured due to the beige selection options currently, but he shouldn’t kid himself, there are dozens upon dozens of far superior cricketers who never played a test because the bar was where is should be to get a baggy.
Far from "bog average". He's been very consistent with the bat.

113 & dnb; 1-53 & 0-3
3 & 35; 2-74 & 0-26
33 & 61*; 0-18 & 1-51
5 & 46*; 3-19 & 3-49
42 & dnb; 1-46 & 0-33
61 & 49; 3-81 & 2-25

448 runs @ 56
16 wickets @ 29.87

He's also taken 11 wickets in three one-day matches @ 5.81.

His point may be, one score over 61 and in four games (out of six) took five wickets.

Only two scores below 35 suggests that he strides to the crease with the intention of occupying it - your point re consistency is therefore valid.

He deserves his chance and hopefully Cummins will give him a realistic one.

He did say the 2nd innings.......

So not conceding runs when the opposition is playing for a draw is good bowling? With his ****ed up back, 90% of balls were unplayable, but in a white ball game would have been wides…

1 wicket for the game for the teams no2 bowler and people think he bowled well, gee the bar is set low for some…

Not sure what you were watching but India played a lot of attacking shots in particular Jaiswal but missed so they were way behind in the 1st session and had to play for the draw in the 2nd.
