The reaction on this forum is unbelievable every time we lose a game. It is known that we are not the dominant team we were last year, that's obvious. North are a very good team, and a very good team at etihad. We have come off an incredible win against sydney in sydney and we were tired tonight, no doubt about it. But losses come. We have become so accustomed to only losing 2-3 games in the last two years that if we lose a game people are doubting we will make top four, win the flag, calling for everyones heads, starting "roast" threads abouts sidebottoms second half of the year, its absolutely ridiculous. Calm the f**k down. I am sick of the fallout from these games. Yes we didnt play well tonight, but after last week everyone was shouting our praises and buying their tickets to the gf after party. ITS FOOTBALL! this happens. Relax, and have some faith

Great post.. Outstanding work :thumbsu:

we were very poor. Skills and decision making. Apart from the first five minutes, they outplayed played us with quick ball movement through the middle.

From an outsider looking in, it looks as though there is something wrong internally.

I see it like this:
We alternate from good to poor. So this week, we come out and smash the Eagles. The week after, we will be poor against Essendon but it won't matter because they are shit and their season is gone. The week after that we will be very good again and win our QF, the following week we will have our week off, so there is no effect. PF day we are good again and whiz, bam, we are in the GF.

By that logic we will be poor in the GF rather not make it then lose another gf.

and then, we will have our off game during the GF, and everyone will say we choked twice in a row, and the players will be demoralized. i don't like that theory ahahaha

If people cannot see that we clearly lack structure and system then you have your heads stuck far up Bucks' arse.

Talent only gets you so far.
Totally agree, there is no leading towards the ball. The forward structures a too rigid, not enough movement. Cloke and Dawes cannot mark 50m kicks to them with 3 or 4 defenders around them.

That was our worst performance by far.

Carlton one's were bad, but not that bad.

Everything was bad about that tonight, except Seedsman probably.

And lots of credit to North, they were great tonight.

Thanks appreciated , you will bounce back next week.

I thought we lost last years GF? Can't say he inherited the kick out strategy. Not when the cog that was kicking out isn't there anymore, and the rest have no idea how to put a pass to someone's chest. I also think he didn't intend on inheriting a target forward in the name of Travis Cloke who has played the year in the manner of a spoiled brat.

He inherited a gun CHF who used to run his opponent into the ground. He's turned that gun CHF into a stay at home full forward who barely ever leaves the forward 50 or leads at the footy.

I agree with the above posters that Bux is really stuggling. We've gone from being the most organised team in the league to being a shambles. His instructions seem to be: midfielders - you guys chase as many kicks as you can and don't worry about your opponent, forwards - stand still and wait for the ball to be bombed to you, defenders - don't expect much help from the mids, so expect a heap of one on ones or undefendable leads into open space.

As I pointed out a few weeks ago, the game plan is resulting in our mids flourishing and everyone else struggling. Maxwell is the only non-midfielder whose season has lived up to expectations.

I still think that we are an outside chance in September, particularly if it's wet, because we have the most talented list in the league and like the cats we have a level of self belief that results in us winning the majority of close games. If it wasn't for the fact that we've won every close game, we'd be struggling to make the eight.

Bad luck.

We got you at an opportune time with Swan missing and Thomas & Jolly obviously restricted.

Bounce back and stick it to those West Coast arseholes next week.:thumbsu:

You guys have improved outta sight, and you play the right way.

Hope you do yourselves justice in the finals, on form you deserve to be playing deep in September.

The only thing I want to see is for Nathan Buckley to inject anything that resembles a game plan.

A forward structure, a press to defend kick outs, a kick out strategy and a cohesive well oiled machine.

Shouldn't have been hard to do or find considering he inherited one and a winning one at that.

Blame Cloke, Dawes etc all you like people but if it were that simple we would still be dominating games which we aren't.

I'm almost of the belief Bucks has NFI what he is doing. He is relying on our talent alone rather than having a system in place to keep us competitive and successful.
This!

We went from having a side with a game plan that was too structured, to a side with no structure or gameplan.

Our midfield just gets bloated amount of touches pushed up by waxing, our backs are left to fend for themselves in one on ones against quick and unpressured ball movement, and the forwards left at home having to deal with kicks over their head, at their feet or too outnumbered contests.

Why cloke isnt played in his roaming Role of 2010, 2011 is beyond me, why Dawes is used as a ruck/forward when he clearly can't do one and has lost all confidence in the other is beyond me, why a limited but very important structural role player is Leigh Brown wasn't replaced is beyond me, why a shut down medium who was replaced by a lighting which small forward who hasn't played in three weeks is beyond me, and finally how such a structured and disciplined side for the last 3 years can play with so little structure or discipline is well and truly beyond me grasp.

It's funny.

First half I was blaming the delivery to Cloke and Dawes. But then I realised the delivery had nothing to do with it.

Sinclair, fasolo, Thomas, sidebottom etc all took marks on the lead from passes. Ten I saw Cloke and Dawes both drop sitters and realised they're both just shit.

Yeah there were a few genuine shit passes to them, but in all honesty, they even dropped the perfect passes. Not to mention its hard to hit a good pass to a forward that can't lead.

Everyone is quick to blame Buckley right now and I can see why that is to be truthful. But I think too many underestimate the affect our lack of forward line is having on any structure Bucks attempts to implement.

Having no forward line means the mids can't go back and bolster the defence because they're too busy trying to get forward to actually try and create or kick goals. This means they're also being left behind when the ball comes out of our forward line. I'm actually realizing Cloke and Dawes are a bigger problem than I initially thought.

Agreed. The backline has been under enormous pressure this year and the midfield would certainly get a bit sick of seeing the ball coming back so easily.

Something has to be done, but I think that it is far too late in the season for this to happen.

A few weeks ago you would have been ridiculed from pillar to post as the theory was we are building towards the finals etc or some other crap. Fact is structure and gameplan wise we have been ordinary all year. Its our gun players that have carried us the whole bloody year.

Bucks mentioned just before taking over he would like for us to have more of the ball. Last night we had 60 less possessions. Yep that is really working.

When a game is structured like last night we struggle, when its a scrap like last week we are good.

Our zone defence once again looked to give opposition players far too much room to run into space. I do not understand why our players don't play closer to their opponents instead of allowing them so much freedom. The game plan and structures make no sense and three teams this year have basically done as they pleased with their ball movement. If we play any of Hawthorn, Carlton or North in the finals we will lose.

I'm glad others can see what is going on too.

We are in a deep, deep hole. Our September chances are diminshing very quickly.

Too many sides are doing as they please against us because we allow them too much time and space to run and move the football as they wish.

You just have to watch our defensive set ups during kick ins and it's awful. How many times do oppositions have the time to kick to themselves, run 30m and deliver anther 50? We don't cover space, we don't cover men, we are in no mans land period.

We cannot go the distance without structure.

We are just about cooked.

Nah, not the real issue- he looks a bit sore, has been forced to kick with the right foot a couple of times. We miss Ball in the middle though.
He has been a little easy to tagg out of the game of recent.
Did anybody see him(Pembles) give a shove to Zeibal(I think it was) down on the boundary in the 3rd quarter.
3 North Melbourne players ran down to shove Pemblebury and not 1 Magpie came to his help.
Stats last night were very similar. Collingwoood had more inside 50s.
North were just harder....
North...Tarzan
Collingwood....Jane

We had 62 less possessions, 46 less marks, 19 less hitouts, 11 less inside 50's and more frees for. That is not 'similar'.

Yes nobody came to help Pendles, and it looked like nobody cared.
