This is nuts. Whatever suburb you’re in will absolutely have a cafe that will serve better coffee than you’ll get through Maccas. And you’ll support a local business and not a faceless American corporation.

If you want Big Macs or any of that sh*t I understand that you can only get it from Maccas. Coffee on the other hand you’re opting out of easily obtainable better coffee most times you go there.

Where do you live that they’re slinging such crap coffee?

I can think of multiple cafes in the suburb that I live in that have better coffee than Maccas.

I can think of cafes in each adjacent suburb that again would have superior coffee than Maccas.

Perhaps it is a symptom of where you live.

I take 3 shots as standard in my coffee and have never been told that.

It's been a long time since I have had consistently good coffee from any shop in Melbourne. The reputation was built up 20 or 30 years ago in proper cafes where the barista had built an affinity with the well roasted and selected beans, had intimate knowledge of their machines and had an immaculate feel for temperatures (or further back in time although in significantly fewer places).

But these days the coffee is often bland, strength and temperature is all over the place and the bearded, heavily tattooed wannabe barista boys and girls holding cups from below and twerking the milk to slop in patterns haven't got a ****en clue what makes a coffee good.

3 is a lot for a medium latte. The Barista at Caulfield Monash is awesome and his coffee brilliant.

I'm in the Hills and plenty of good spots, just not early a.m. I suppose.

My local fish and chips joint (Hooked and Cooked on Rooke) does a phenomenal burger with the lot as well as fantastic fish and chips.

And don’t get me started on the over priced crap that is Grill’d.

Excellent burgers. Embassy Cafe on Spencer are still good despite change of ownership a few years ago. My local fish and chip shop is as good as any. He still uses Morgans buns which have been around for 1000 years and a great burger is under $10 cooked fresh. Most trendy burgers are not burgers in the true sense. To me, if you can't eat it in your hands it's not a burger. Can't cope with paying $18 plus in the trendy places and the burger is a mess.

The Embassy is great.

I still think the pinnacle of Melbourne burgers is Andrews.

If you’re down Geelong way the Corio Bay Roadhouse does great burgers.

If a new staff member appears at my local cafe of choice I always ask “do you drink coffee yourself?” Particularly pertinent if said n00b is a young kid. The worst crime in such scenario is when you go to have the first sip from the takeaway cup and you’re almost at 45 degrees before any liquid hits your lips, thereby displaying that the amateur barista hasn’t even filled the bastard!
