Rotham's brother works at the club too?
lol
Yes what a wonderful culture affirming decision it is when the large corporate organisation you work for tells you what to do with your personal and recreational time
When change is needed, they need to go all in.Yes what a wonderful culture affirming decision it is when the large corporate organisation you work for tells you what to do with your personal and recreational time
We really are a boys club and who you know or are related to is the way to get a job.

Acknowledge that Woodcock is probably portraying this in a far more negative sense than the club are pitching it. For me it's the history of someone like Brayshaw, who wanted to play for our WAFL side but was forced to go elsewhere because WC have a terrible relationship with the WAFL and couldn't sort their shit out, and is forced to return to our basketcase of a team after having an excellent season elsewhere. I just can't see that as fostering a great atmosphere. But that's just my take.I dunno, there are plenty of jobs where you can't work a second job or at least have to declare them for real or perceived conflicts of interest.
I would have thought working for one club while playing for another would be a pretty clear-cut conflict of interest.
bad takeWest Coast Eagles look set to sack employees who play for rival WAFL clubs
West Coast employees will be told they will lose their jobs if they continue to play for rival WAFL clubs, sources have told The West Australian.
It is understood the Eagles will no longer tolerate their workers lining up for other State footy outfits while their own team continues to flounder in the wake of a disastrous winless campaign.
The club has a number of WAFL players on their payroll in community and coaching jobs, including newly-minted Sandover winner and former AFL-listed player Hamish Brayshaw.
The 25-year-old played one AFL game at the Eagles in 2020 and has a role at the club in community and game development and is also West Coast’s AFLW midfield coach.
But he has played at East Perth for the past two seasons in the wake of West Coast’s decision to pull their WAFL side from the competition, only for the club to backflip on the decision soon after.
It is understood Brayshaw, who has two years remaining on his East Perth contract, could be forced to between remaining at the Royals or to end his commitments at West Coast once the AFLW season is over.
West Perth utility Sam Rotham and former Essendon forward Alec Waterman are also set to be told they will not be allowed to play for rival WAFL clubs while working at the Eagles.
Rotham has been with the Falcons since he was a teenager and has played league 56 games including in last year’s premiership for the Falcons.
He has worked for West Coast since the start of 2022 as a regional community officer, with his brother Josh on the Eagles playing list.
Waterman has worked with the Eagles since he was delisted by the Bombers at the end of the 2022 season and trained with their AFL side over the summer hoping to resurrect his career.
After playing five games for West Coast’s WAFL side this year before suffering a broken sternum, there has been speculation the 27-year-old is set to return to Claremont next year, the club where he won a fairest-and-best in 2020 before being drafted by the Bombers.
West Coast have a history of employing players who suit up for their WAFL side. Current captain Jackson Nelson is the Eagles’ community and game development officer.
Sam Rotham has worked at West Coast for two years.
That’s despite a WAFL rule that states: “The West Coast Eagles will not use employment opportunities at West Coast Eagles and/or third parties as the primary source for the recruitment of players as Top Up Players, to work outside of the TPP”.
The Eagles have been contacted for comment.

Another Woodcock special.
Whats Brayshaw supposed to do? He has a contract with east Perth because the eagles weren’t going to run a wafl team. Does he now break that contract and I imagine have to sit out footy because east Perth won’t sanction his transfer or give up his eagles roll.I dunno, there are plenty of jobs where you can't work a second job or at least have to declare them for real or perceived conflicts of interest.

Stopping players playing for a rival WAFL club while employed by another, is similar to a non-complete clause most corporate employees have as part of a contract.Yes what a wonderful culture affirming decision it is when the large corporate organisation you work for tells you what to do with your personal and recreational time
Say the line, Bart
I don't think anyone has issue with it, to the extent they've just changed the rules on the fly while people are operating under existing contracts at the moment is on the nose.Stopping players playing for a rival WAFL club while employed by another, is similar to a non-complete clause most corporate employees have as part of a contract.
I have one that prevents me from working for a rival organisation within a certain radius of the practice I'm at now, either during my current contract and 5yrs post should I leave.

Yeah as Miguel said Brayshaw is a special case.Whats Brayshaw supposed to do? He has a contract with east Perth because the eagles weren’t going to run a wafl team. Understand they are setting rule going forward but not sure how works for him now.

Was just about to say the same. No way in hell is that enforceable if you're just an employee. Also, that 5 years non-compete is extremely unlikely to be enforceable no matter what you contract says.

It’s stickdick so the information is either incorrect or from someone with an axe to grind with the club
Go through the article and you likely find where this has come from
• Brayshaw joined EP because the WAFL team was temporarily disbanded and has been employed at WCE ever since without issue
• (Sam) Rotham was playing at West Perth when his employment at WCE commenced so if it wasn’t an issue then why would it be an issue now
• (Alec) Waterman has been employed from about the same time he agreed to play for the Beagles but per the article is now considering a move to Claremont. Coincidentally his brother Jake is in the middle of what’s been a protracted and bumpy contract negotiation
So maybe WCE have told Alec that his job doesn’t exist if he moves and he’s in turn pointed the hypocrisy of Brayshaw and Rotham having that arrangement, prompting an over reaction. Or this is Waterman specific but whoever has told Stickdick has implied it covers Rotham and Brayshaw as well
I suspect there’s factual holes in the story and the truth is different to how it’s been reported from someone whose writing has consistently been negative about the club. And often wrong
