I don't usually go into bat for the C*ckburners, but it's pretty inconsiderate of the AFL to not allow them to be represented by including one of their premiership forwards to be co-ambassador.
They did have Modra.... for a time, oh wait.

Turning to the clubs: AFL hires former Eagles boss

The AFL has hired highly experienced former West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett to help the league deal with clubs on key areas such as competitive balance and club funding.

AFL boss Andrew Dillon told the clubs that Nisbett – one of the game’s longest-serving and most successful CEOs at club level – would begin a new role as “executive manager clubs.”

“Trevor will work closely with David (Grossman, general manager clubs and scheduling), myself and our executive team in that advisory capacity on the development of the future club funding model and related competitive balance policies,” Dillon said in a memo sent to the club bosses on Monday.

Nisbett was first head of football and then CEO at the Eagles for more than 30 years, stepping down only this January and handing the reins to former West Coast premiership player and ex-Adelaide coach Don Pyke. He is arguably the most influential official in West Coast’s history, given that he was either the head of football or CEO for all four premierships won by the club so far.

Nisbett’s role is part-time, but his hiring appears to be a recognition that the AFL administration has lost decades of experience in its executive ranks, having lost CEO Gillon McLachlan and senior executives Travis Auld and Kylie Rogers, with the latter pair becoming CEOs of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and the VRC respectively. Auld and Rogers were candidates for the CEO role at the AFL, competing with Dillon for the top job.

Dillon also announced a restructuring of part of the executive to assist the 18 clubs, creating a new, yet-to-be filled, position of general manager club finance, performance and growth, and appointing Grossman to the upgraded role of GM clubs and scheduling. Both executives will report to senior executive Matthew Chun.

The AFL’s need for experience at club level was also underscored by the hiring of veteran administrator Geoff Walsh last year to help the AFL in football operations, with Walsh having served at Collingwood, North Melbourne, Carlton, Fitzroy and (briefly) St Kilda.

“It is important that we have 18 financially strong clubs who compete on and off the field,” said Dillon in the memo announcing the changes. “It is also important that we are set up for the next collective bargaining agreement and the next broadcast agreement.

“I know both of those are some years away but what we do now and how we approach it, is important in getting us into the right position and attracting the best possible players and people to our game whilst building the strongest possible industry balance sheet.”

We’re seeing bits and pieces of what the club has been planning which so far have all been positive in their intent

Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together

Interesting to see that Melbourne have appointed club legend Brad Green President.
Hawthorn have Andrew Gowers also an ex player as their President.
I think its about time West Coast followed suit, it's time football people ran the club
instead of Perthonalities from business and other sports.
Woosha has played, coached and bled for the club, it's about time he ran it instead
of the people already on the board who like having the word West Coast Director on their CV's.
 
Just thinking about the Steven King chat in the coaching thread. It would be great to have some Geelong IP in our club but is there someone that has history with their list management that we could target instead?

Green has a very impressive legal and business CV. He is a fair bit more than a footy person.

Impressive legal CV? I know Brad (albeit not well). Been on the piss with him several times and was not aware of this. Given I am a lawyer, surprised it never came up. You sure?

Interesting how Don sold it on ABC today. Basically said they've sent Steve to focus on WAFL to support Horsley and help the team get wins to develop a winning culture. So not sure if he's trying to sell a demotion as a positive, or they think he's better in that role and want someone with AFL experience(McKenna) to develop the AFL players.

I have no doubt She has the average understanding of afl as a happy clapper fan.

The statements she will make will reek of incompetences and out of touch. She's best not to make any statements.
 
No issue with Elizabeth Gaines being appointed the new Chair, the couple of instances she spoke on behalf of the club she seemed an improvement on Fitzpatrick

Let us be frank and open about this - Paul Fitzpatrick was less than ideal as Chair. This was highly expected as the move from deputy to chair so no surprises. With a new Chair, a new CEO, a new Coach and Daisey relatively new, the clean out has been thorough.

So far Daisey and Don have been seen as good appointments, I guess for the cynics, only time will tell, but in my mind it is a good start. Clarke as list manager will be on show in the next 3 months however I have some confidence that they separated the Recruitment and List Manager roles.

We had deep problems with all three teams and at least action is underway to rectify it.

And flock off Barrett you filly flock, we are a great club and don't need your opinion. Better for you to stick to just reporting and not giving your opinion. To give an informed opinion, you would need to have shown some expertise in the field not just be a seagull on a chip giving shallow opinions.

Gaines as chairman is doomsday if she doesn't delegate alot of her power and leave it to people that have footy knowledge.

I'm so concerned. The good thing is atleast wce will be a financial powerhouse and she will help it maintain that core value.

But like I said Gaines has the average footy knowledge of a happy clapper fan.

But Gaines is a competent speaker and can sprout talking points and corporate speak well
