If BJ leaves I'm looking forward to BJ doing a Koutafide's at Essendon. ( ie getting paid stupid money while spudding it up with the team on the bottom of the ladder. )

Why the animosity? He has always played hard for us and saved his best for the biggest stage. If we had another like him in the grand final against the pies we would have won a flag.
BJ also isn't screwing us over here. We will do OK out of it if he goes. Good luck to him at the dons if that is the way it pans out.

Agreed. BJ has publicly been positive and upbeat about St Kilda and his desire to stay with us. He has given the club his all. If he goes, I harbour no hard feelings (not to say that I wouldn't barrack against his team).

He is not a Cloke. The distraction that he provided at Collingwood all season, was a nightmare for that club. BJ has conducted himself professionally and had all dealings behind closed doors.

Media definitely can't lose.

Create an imaginary crisis, dilemma, or drama and then when it doesn't eventuate (or was never going to happen), they can then write of a problem averted, the club averting a crisis etc etc.

And all done with a straight face, as simply the reporters of news, not the creators of constant speculative rubbish.

A lesser example is this from Robbo:

If Brendon Goddard now accepts an estimated $600,000-$650,000 a season offer from the Saints over three years, he would become the club's highest paid player.
then later in the same paragraph
Nettlefold refused to confirm that if Goddard re-signed, he would be the highest-paid Saints player.

Agree, I'll be clapping BJ next year after we beat Essendon

I'm now Ok with him going to Essendon if that's what he wants to do.
The only reason I hate Essendon is because I have one mate who is the biggest ****stick footy supporter ever and he goes for them, he's seriously worse than a bad filth moron. I just had a chat with him and the Goddard situation came up and basically it all went better than expected.

I'll be happy if he stays, but I will hold no grudge if he goes (to a non Freo/Collingwood) club.

Now look at their comments on Freo! I cannot understand how he would get to Geelong without destroying their perfect player unison. Surely they would not upset that to offer him more than we could match?

GEELONG has emerged as the latest club to consider recruiting free agent Brendon Goddard, as St Kilda fights hard to keep him.

The Cats have salary cap room due to a change in the veterans list and the retirement of Matthew Scarlett and David Wojcinski.

Having already tried and failed to tempt Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield and Port Adelaide's Travis Boak, the Cats have inquired about what it might take to lure Goddard.

But Fremantle has all but given up the chase for Goddard, 27, despite having pursued him for most of the season.

The Dockers have conceded that Goddard, considering his options as a free agent, is unwilling to relocate to Perth.

The Cats are also keen to pursue Gold Coast's Josh Caddy, who wants to be traded back to Melbourne.

Despite some believing St Kilda would be happy to get salary-cap relief and a compensation pick for Goddard, it is fighting to retain him.

The former No.1 draft pick is believed to have had a lengthy recent discussion with Saints coach Scott Watters, in which the first-year coach outlined the reasons he wanted Goddard to stay.

Goddard would be the highest-paid player at St Kilda next year but, with Essendon offering a four-year deal, he is in the perfect position to consider multiple offers.

Geelong are after anyone with a pulse....
Every day another story comes out, the closer he is to becoming Saints skipper.

That doesn't send a great message for mine. I'd want my skipper to be signed well and truly before he takes up the position, it's not a dual package.

Agree Briza. If we can believe this article?

If BJ is unwilling to re-locate to Freo (assume a 4 year deal worth $2.8m?)...do we assume he'd also be unwilling to relocate to GWS? (assume a 4 year deal worth $3.4m?)...I'd suspect so. Certainly a move to Freo would be better for him in regards to winning a flag.

i think we can write GWS off as well.

Looks like it's the Saints ($1.95m over 3 years + captaincy) vs the Bombers (reported $3.2m over 4 years)

My animosity is more against Essendon. While I don't think BJ will actually spud it up, I don't think he'd be the messiah for their team either.
Its like if you are at a house Auction, hoping to buy it , and some idiot comes and bids way over the market price. Even if you can afford it you dont want to pay that much, but you are disappointed because you really liked that house.

A leading player manager says Travis Cloke and Bruce Kaider are stalling the free agency market

Cloke and Goddard are looming as the two biggest fish in this year’s month-long trade and free agency frenzy with both refusing to sign on at their current clubs and seeking long-term deals on massive dollars.

Kaider, of One Management, manages Melbourne Brent Moloney – the first AFL player to declare himself a free agent.

Goddard is also believed to be testing the free agency waters with Fremantle, Geelong and Essendon both reportedly keen on luring the out-of-contract Saint.

OK hypothetical question.
Say StKilda offer him a package worth 1.5m
He goes with Free angency and Essendon offer him 2m
StKilda have the chance to match that offer.
Can StKilda then offer 1.8m and can he accept? Or is he then locked into the FA conditions?
If he's locked in, StKilda wont have any room to bargain AFTER October.

My understanding from this thread is that we can come to any terms with him after 1 October.

Goddard can sign with St. Kilda at any time.

If Goddard wants to become a free agent, he has to wait until October 1 before he can start receiving official offers from rival clubs.

Dont beleive everything you read in the paper mate. He isnt coming to Geelong, we are not after him he want to much than we will pay. Hope he stays with you guys, and gives me a few more super coach points next year.

Thanks for that. Seemed like rubbish and would go against the payment scheme that you have at Geelong.

Those in the know at the clubs, must fall off chairs laughing with the rubbish that is made up and reported.
