I'm not a O.Henry stan, he isn't even our most exciting Ollie prospect

I dont think those stats are acceptable. I think Tanner needs to learn a 2nd position, preferably in the VFL. When Danger, Bowes and Atkins are having a bad game at least they can be moved to different positions outside of the centre square.

I guess because if they did he would just push straight back into the midfield

Danger had 12 touches today.
Bowes had 20 but 25 extra mins on ground than tanner
The last time atkins played he had 17.

I would suggest to you that bruhn is no less poor than the rest of the midfield and has more upside than the others so i wouldnt drop him.

All the others listed can play positions other than midfield. When Bruhn is having a bad game there is nowhere else to put him

We need Bruhn, no doubt at all.

Midfield depth has been an issue all year long, we always seem to be one strong rotation short.

We get all of Dangerfield, Bruhn, Atkins, Bowes, Holmes and now Tom Stewart in regular rotation and suddenly we're looking in decent shape. Dangerfield and Bruhn have only played 3-4 games together this year; now that they're paired once again Atkins is out; it hasn't quite come together but there is still time in 2024.

Tyson Stengle looks a shoe-in for the 2024 AA small forward's spot at this stage; today was just further evidence for his case: 3 top-shelf quality finishes (+ some of his contest work around the ground was 1st rate, too).

Toby Greene will put up a good case of course; match-winner no doubt.

But Stengle has been the man this year, and as I was spruiking a few weeks ago, he may well be the best true small forward this club has ever had in it's 100+ years of existence.

Interesting observation. Can’t remember too many for the cats over the journey.
We’ve had guys who did the job on occasions but no real consistent ‘specialists’ that come to mind. I’m sure the wonks here will throw up a name or two.

It comes down to semantics and definitions to an extent (imo) - Paul Chapman and Stevie J during out 2007-09-11 run were highly effective in our F50 for some of the club's biggest moments - but for mine they played a little higher up the ground and were defacto mids at times. Matty Stokes was more than serviceable, and then going back there were guys like Pianto and Tresize who ''rested'' in the forward pocket very effectively.

But Stengle really fills the brief; sublime skills, every touch deadly. A massive part of our 2022 flag. The great thing is we have him on the list for another 5 years, and he has the type of game that should remain relevant and durable.

Agree, but the commentators are all over K Pickett

My bad, abit tired over here
Did the dash from Melbourne this morning at 11am to get to Hobart and just got back.
Long day
no worries.
Admire your dedication to go over.
Saints are repeating 23 a bit it seems, coming home with a run of wins.

He's very good too, probably Melbourne's one potent forward apart from Fritsch.

I think Stengle has completely exemplified the role in 2024 to date; great again today - 3 quality finishes of course, but he applied plenty of pressure, got up the ground and won 1v1 contests at important junctures. The goals are reward for diligent and inspired work from Tyson Stengle.
