Hardie for Clark.
Bews for Stewart.
COS not strong enough ATM.

Pass on Bews - not once listed amongst our best in the VFL this season, and the only mention of him in today's match report is for the goal he kicked

If given the opportunity, it'll be a good test for O'Sullivan - rather put games into the future than a player who looks like it's gone past them

Unfortunately he hasn’t really shown anything to indicate he deserved a game this year TBH.
FWIW with a healthy contingent of mids he will be plying his trade in the magoos.
High pick we might’ve whiffed on.
I know it’s early but I am hoping I am wrong.

he's played 6 vfl games and 7 afl games. he missed more time last year due to a foot injury than games he's played.

he's also 19yrs old.

high picked we've whiffed on? go and get ****ed. go support someone else.

Just even across the board. Not relying on a few. Lost most wet-weather stats and still got it done.

Lions like it easy and make bad decisions under pressure. We just keep our heads and attack the contest.

Rohan will return next week.

Just an opinion but I actually think Guthrie will return to AFL before Rohan. I am not dismissing what he has done for us in the past…and he is a cut above VFL but we are 6-0 and our forward line is a big part of that. Not just offensively but they whole of ground defence is outstanding

No doubt he adds to our forward pressure but depending on who he comes in for he might take away from the whole of ground

I am not saying he won’t come back in - of course he will…but I think they keep a good thing going with the forward group until they need to change

YOU LITTLE BEAUTY! That was one of the most enjoyable games I've watched live since the 2020 prelim.

Was sitting in a very loud and clueless section of the crowd, who were booing the umps even when they were getting the rub of the green in the first half (it was hilarious to see them go apoplectic in the last!).

It really felt like a bit of a repeat of last year's game early in that first quarter. They dominated but couldn't convert, and we couldn't get going. Thankfully we kicked into gear, stayed with them, and then blew them away in the last (relatively speaking).

A few player notes...

* Clark - I think he was always going to struggle a bit going up against a mature midfield, but the conditions made it harder still. But his repeat efforts and work were incredible. It's valuable experience for him, but I'd be tempted to give Hardie a game next week in his place (though guessing Tuohy will probably take this spot).

* Henry (O) - his second quarter was some of the most putrid non-marking, slipping over rubbish I've seen...yet, he pitched in with a couple of goals (as always) and still contributed overall. Really glad he didn't drop his head, especially after he'd dropped 4-5 in a row.

* Zuthrie - with Stewart, he became our master of the backline. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but this guy is pretty much as good a backline player as Cam is a mid. Almost rarely beaten and provides so much drive out of the backline, and really stood out with clean possession in a sea of fumbles.

* Stengle - enough said. Please re-sign.

* SDK - not a good night for talls, and still made mistakes, but feel he's continuing to crawl away from the abyssmal start to the season - kicks are going where they need to (mostly), he's getting more spoils on and not beaten as much

* Bruhn - is he getting close to a break-out season? I think he's getting close. Super-important for us

* Parfitt - has become a "bonus mid". Pretty sure most of us wrote him off after 2023 as depth at best, but now he's undroppable. Was in the thick of it all night, and that goal to seal the game was delightful

It's becoming a pattern week after week: none of our mids racking up big numbers like the opposition stars, but we're so balanced we don't need to. And who the hell do you tag in our group (outside Danger, who's going to do Danger things anyway).

Dude, chill. You can disagree with someone about footy without going mental on them

Massive win for the Cats. No one would have predicted at the start of the season. We can now manage players into finals. Brilliant.

I thought Duncan was brilliant tonight. Wet weather footy master class. So please for Parfitt and Stengle, incredible!

We can throw the sink at next week.

On tonight’s performance I’d have Rohan in for O.Henry or Dempsey. Let’s not forget how good he can be.

...and back to being the Hunted we have become.

6-0 ..

4 points clear on top and one less game played too.

Geelong Football Club Excellence again.

Holmes, Stengle, Bruhn, Miers, Zuthrie, Close, MOC tagging Neale, Kolo,

BRANDON PARFITT TAKE A BOW

Conway, PFD, Atkins all contributing. Tomma and Jezza had quiet nights.

Stewy subbed out was a bummer but he seems to be ok.

no one gave us a chance to be here yet here we are. Dont ever not believe in this club.

Tough slog in the wet and these kind of grinding wins can be underestimated. Gutsy stuff really.

GO Catters
Just like 2022, another free-hit year.

They remind me of the (NBA) grizzlies of recent years, won sweet * all yet flog around with their chests up and chins forward like they are world beaters.
Do something first you soft shelled spuds
Bang on.

And in this scenario, we're the Warriors. Just keep beating them when it matters.

Stewart out is significant, of course, but Zuthrie is looking very capable of filling that leadership and zone-off role.
Great to see a kid who looked like an Auskick rag-doll to looking tough and courageous as nails!
This was an outstanding win. 6-0 almost guarantees a top 4 spot unless we get completely de-railed.

Never forget, while posters on here were potting Zuthrie, Chris Scott, hard as nails premiership defender, always backed him, AND so did Matthew Scarlett….

Hard for job to impact as the sub and coming in undersized in the conditions.

I just think he shouldn't have played. I wanted Mannagh

You will probably get your wish next week playing in that wet slog we will need to rotate to have fresh legs for carlton.
No doubt stanley will come back for conway and hardie and mannagh will be chances for clark and one or two managed blokes.

The interesting thing is rohan. If we wanted to try him as a hbf this is an ideal week to try without stewart.

Stengle has gone up a gear this season, tonight I thought was his best match played in the hoops. That was an impressive win in the pouring rain we handled the conditions much better and shut there midfield up nicely in the second half they pretty much had no impact. Can't wait for next week against the Blues should be a massive test for both sides.
