Mead not playing at all this week actually makes him quite attractive as an option. At the very least he didn't disgrace himself like the rest of our list.
Was thinking the same. They’d be no more than 8 guys across both levels who could hold their heads up after yesterday. Mead would be number nine by default.

Agreed Scully needs some serious match fitness he struggled yesterday.

Thought Sinn was a stand out.
Sinn was definitely a stand out early, but needs to stay involved for longer periods. Not sure if he faded because he lacks match fitness or had reduced minutes.

Scully got out bodied a bit too easily and looked really slow when he needed to chase on a few occasions.

Re the sh*pot tackling, I'm not sure who the Port player was in the early game as I was so p*ssed off I was reaching for the remote, but there was a passage of play near the grandstand wing where said Port player had 3 attempts to tackle an average sized crow's bloke (who looked to be no more than low 180's cm and middish 80 kegs) where he actually got his arms around him twice only to be shrugged off like he wasn't even there.

Who is the tackling coach at Alberton, DBJ?

Yes, throw Finlayson back for height and some actual foot skills. Williams another good option.

Georgiades' didn't do anything in the SANFL Showdown that made me think he should come straight back in. Surely stick with Finalyson who can pinch hit in the ruck, play forward and go into defence if we really really need.

McKenzie out for about a month I thought?
I am against Finlayson playing interstate what with issues with family.
Others may view this as weak, I know.
At home.....sure, you are right.
Stand corrected re McKenzie if that is the case.

Both of those things are just natural physical development thankfully (Scully)

It's probably too early for Visentini, but at least he does show some heart.

Not so sure the same could be said for Teakle though, there had to be a reason why both WA clubs over looked a bloke of his size, and that may have been on show yesterday as in my opinion there were at least a couple of times he could have gone a bit harder at the contest.

As bad as Lycett has been I wouldn't be too keen on Teakle as his replacement because as has already been suggested, he is not a ruckman's rear end and I can envisage the possibility of him going down for the count at the first bounce of an AFL game.

I was impressed with Visentini's game yesterday. Showed a lot of promise, should probably take Lycett's spot for next week.

So... I've had some time to calm down

Well a little..... we are a touch handcuffed in terms of players that we can bring in who are afl standard, so like it or not the won't be wholesale changes.

That said, let's try something novel like playing blokes in their best position.

Farrell has a lovely leg, but he isn't much of a defender, so let's stop pretending.

Likewise Bonner - wing sure, defense... not so much

Lachie Jones is a big bodied mid/def but he isn't there yet

The rest is structural. Let's not play silly buggers like Jonas on a rankine - admittedly Burton out limited our options there, but if we are serious our defence is best with aliir as the floating tall interceptor, not the lockdown tall (and yes we are a decent tall short).

Outside of that it's contested possession and pressure. Again we were 20 down in contested, it's almost like our mids can only run one way. And our turnover pressure in the middle of the ground was laughable. Adelaide kicked at least 8 goals starting from defense.

There's definitely something to work on in our midfield setup, either around defensive positioning, or the mix of players in there.

They will probably drop an under performing Fantasia and bring in an under performing Georgiades. In other words the old deckchair strategy on the sinking ship.

If the selectors had balls they would bite the bullet and drop the Captain. Jonas is near the end of his career and is giving us nothing.

As I have posted a couple of times I watched the Port Magpies yesterday and apart from Josh Sinn's first half there was nothing.

Nah, I am that deflated that I could not give a stuff. :( :(

Spot on structure (team balance) can easily effect a team's ability to score or prevent the oppo from scoring, it only takes a handful of players in the wrong position and it can c*ck that balance up completely, and as you suggest above we had at least 3 who could have been utilised in better positions, and the Jonas on Rankine match up was just plain silly.

I still have high hopes a decent coach would improve the current list considerably, but how much more damage will be done to it while kokhead sits on his hands is obviously the 64 dollar question.

Good point, they played Teakle in defence in the Port Magpies so obviously someone has recognised that we are a tall short in defence. I am not sure if Teakle is a 'decent tall' but he might eventually be worth a try. Brynn will probably need to be persevered with in the SANFL for a few weeks but if he can put together some good games he might be a better option than Jonas.

Hmmm, upon reflection using Teakle as a defender is probably only a stop gap measure when we should be looking at longer term fixes but what other options are there?

Of course the Finlayson situation is really unfortunate and I really would not have been surprised, nor had any issue, with him missing the entirety of the season.

Having said that, he's in the team now and as long as he (and his family) is comfortable with it, I don't see any reason to leave him in Adelaide next week. Georgiades is just lacking a lot of confidence at the moment and I think could benefit from a run in the 2s.

Had a look after my original post and McKenzie officially listed as 'TBC" so I think we are both left in the dark as much as the other.

He seemed to read the ball alright coming into defence. He's mobile and plays with some aggression, it's worth a try just to release Aliir.

I mean he might get 5 kicked on him by someone like Thilthorpe, but guess what? It happened.
