Lord is only out if both Marshall and Dixon come in.

otherwise it will be Bonner to go out and burton moves back to the backline. that frees the forward for 1 of Dixon or Marshall.

This is one of the worse takes I read in a while.
Nah. He was beaten defensively quite easily yesterday when he was down there and has thrown up some stinkers.
If no-one is putting up their hand, fair enough, but nothing in his play should suggest his spot is completely safe.

Only a few weeks ago Hawthorn were being dismissed as a fixture-distorting guaranteed 4 points for whoever played them twice. Then they exploded against West Coast, after which St Kilda have been caught in the shock wave. A warning for teams that kick a lot more points than goals. So now we have to play the best team we can, no mid-season recuperation for aging stars, no blooding debutants as reward for good SANFL performance.
Jonas is an automatic return. Hopefully all of Marshall, Boak and Dixon are available. If so at least 4 go out. No point being yet another person picking names out of a hat here, but I really hope they find some way to keep Lord in.

And he’ll have a big game this week with a point to prove against the team that got rid of him.
I've never yet seen an opposition bench hold up a card saying "Sorry <NAME HERE> we shouldn't have booted you. You're killing us!". But I guess it doesn't hurt if Burton thinks they might.

This will be a tricky one, Hawks are no easy beats.

Out: Mead, Bonner.
In: Marshall, Boak.

Move Bergman up to Bonner's spot. Burton back in defence.

Edit: Evans instead of Mead. Mead sub.

Burton was our best defender and in our top 5 players for ages... moved in to the forward line, looks all at sea now, and people are saying to drop him?

Just stick him back in defence and let him get his focus back. He's too good to play in the SNAFL.

Its identical to what happened with Dooogs

I miss his Bruce Abernethy stats from the backline. His 1 kick and 1 goal forward line stats do not compensate.

Understand why they have done it though.

How about that though, even with Marshall and Dixon out we have tried to maintain a 3 tall forward line.

When does Rioli's performance start to be scrutinised harder?

He certainly needs to do more than he is. At least he's on the park, I guess.

When he plays poorly for more than 1 week in a row. Also not entirely his fault because he was presenting for the ball and teammates kept ****ing the kicks.
What's with all the calls to drop Bonner?
He is starting to show signs of getting back to his best.
Thats probably why they want him dropped

What bothered me about him the past few weeks is when he gets the ball in contested situation rather than give the quick instinctive release to keep us moving he looks to see where contact is coming from and waits to absorb the tackle for the ball up or out of play stoppage.

There are many elements to his game to like but those moments are grating me now.

Sometimes it's fine to just hold the ball though. Better than releasing it to a pack of Richmond players.

I get far more pissed of with players who handball indiscriminately as soon as they get tackled and the ball ends up in the lap of an oppo player. Mead did that a few times.

He isn't a contested beast and probably doesnt have the core strength to hold off the tackler and find a target. The next best option is to take the heat and reset at stoppage.

He isn't a first 22 player but with Duursma injured, Bergman and Farrell being used in defence and Sinn not ready he is fine as a role player at the moment.

his (Bonner's) best is a depth player.
his worst is sanfl reserves

ill admit is disposal has been much better this year. but there is still better in the squad when fit.
If you mean SANFL and not SANFL reserves (which we don't have anyway) then exactly right.
Around 4 years ago he and Houston were IMO neck and neck for selection as depth players. Houston would now be in our first ten picks, or not far off it. Bonner has gone no further except what a player gains from being more experienced.

He's in a position that any player gets scrutinised, like Pittard used to. He is the scapegoat player. I agree with you btw. I think since 2021 prelim Bonner hasn't missed a beat.

the only reason he looked good in the 2021 prelim was because the rest of the team were so bad. 2022 wasnt great form him at all. this year ill admit he has been much better than he has in the past, but with a fully fit team i dont think he gets in.
