After an insipid performance on the weekend I can't see Smack coming in even if Jenkins is missing this week. Exceptional performances in the SANFL is the only thing that will give a player a chance of AFL selection - Crouch, Lyons and Lynch are the only who players who spring to mind. Having said that I hope Shaw comes back pretty soon!

We trade Vince for a 2nd rounder and we lose. Massively.

We lose one game in round 1 where all of our midfielders were beaten and now we are talking about trading a very good player.
I can't believe people want him dropped, he wasn't actually that bad. He was only behind Thommo and Dougie in terms of our mids I thought.

Its because he is talented and has the appearance of taking it easy out there. The thing is his output is higher than a lot of players.
Yeah, I can understand why people have him as their whipping boy, still doesn't make the criticism right.

I agree, I suspect it is his knee to be honest. Has good days and bad days, his good days he is a world beater. His bad days he is still in our top 10 players.

Compare that to Reilly, Mackay, Van Burlo, Wright, Petrenko, Porps, Douglas etc. Then he doesnt look so bad, they just have the apperance that they are "trying hard"

I suppose the unwritten definition of a whipping boy is someone who has a massive chasm between their best and worst footy. We know Vince can put in fantastic efforts, but when the going gets tough he often goes missing, and then it's easy to forget the good stuff.

Let's just be thankful we don't have Jared Brennan in our team.

Has anyone else noticed that Vince usually starts well?

Is it a case of when the going gets tough he goes missing? Or that he starts slowing when everyone else starts ramping up?

No considering he tends to play his best footy the bigger the game

Big game player?

Really?

Did I fall asleep and miss all of last August?

Edit: wrong person, I'll shut up now.

Does anyone else think our slow start to the year could also be to do with the fact we played 3 weeks more in 2012 than we did in 2011?

Pre season started later due to our PF berth and we may be trying to peak for later in the year?

Would be stoked if we're just building, but we need to see more intensity that what we saw last week no doubt

Its the complete opposite of 2012 where we had to win games, and win em early to build confidence for the players and supporters?

Now obviously we don't want to be coming from too far back, but everyone's been talking about how the Swans are 4 weeks off where they want to be, they only played 1 more week than we did. Yes they are a better football team, but surely that counts for something? (plus they can "ease" into the season with a couple of soft games V GWS and GC  to kick it off. Thanks AFL for a couple of wins)

Wasn't sure where to put it, but saw some things about performance

As for selections, Crouch just has to come in. Would like Lyons in too. And Riley. But can't see them making wholesale changes. Crouch in is the minimum

It is probably because he has gone from being a flashy player to being more of a team/role player. He is probably doing more and being more consistent, but his impact is probably less at the moment.

Browse that and look at his finals compared to the rest of the year against good sides. Good stats for a Half Forward.

Interesting to see that his defensive output (seen through tackles) has been steadily declining since 2009. Same story with disposals (could be affected by a move towards the forward line) and marks. His goal kicking output has only increased marginally in that time which is surprising given the fact that he is a fair bit closer to the big sticks now (up from 0.6-0.9). This increase may also be affected by the smaller sample size of each of his seasons following 2009, only playing 20 games twice since then.
