Changes for Hawthorn

In H Shaw Dawes Reid
Out O'Bree McCarthy L Brown

Agree completely. Other changes

Ins: Pendlebury (centre), Lockyer (forward flank), Davis (wing/half forward)
Outs: Pendlebury (wing/half forward), Lockyer (back pocket), Davis (forward pocket)

Add to that Goldsack (if fit) for Toovey who has played 1 average game and two absolute shockers and is not good enough to keep playing bad games and keep his spot. If Jack can be dropped for bad performance when he is a far better player than Toovey then surely the Owl can too. Jack is also a no brainer after you kick 4-17 for a match. Macaffer didn't do much wrong but he didn't do much right either. I actually think the defence I'm suggesting below should be our back 6 for the rest of the year and with Lockyer moving forward I really can't see a spot for the Caff at the moment. Enough half backs, enough half forwards, can't play med's position because he simply isn't as good and he aint a mid so --> He's out. With Gibson out I want Cloke near goal as I think he can really dominate in the air against their mediocre defence.

SO the team becomes;
In: Heath Shaw, Dawes, Reid, Goldsack, Jack
Out: McCarthy, L Brown, O'Bree, Toovey, Macaffer

TEAM becomes;

Sack::::::presti:::Maxwell
Shaw::::::Reid:::::O'Brien

Thomas::pendles::: Didak
Jolly:::::::Swan:::::::Ball

Lockyer:: Dawes:::: Davis
Medhurst:::Cloke::::Jack

BENCH: Fraser, Wellingham, Beams, Sidey

i would actually be really happy if that was the team and they actually keep it as close to that all year. always rated the sack higher then tooves, reid i really think is the chb, dawes im not sold on but they if he gets 4-5-6 games a row in the seniors we'll know where hes at.

i would like to see Dawes get a run at CHB and Reid up forward in the VFL to see how they go. I know Reid has played up forward and wasn't a great set shot at goal, but at least he could take a grab. Dawes has good size and fitness and could probably take a big forward.

They have dominated us in recent times and nothing so far has convinced otherwise..

Lockyer must be dropped!

He is a waste of space......

I have given up even predicting what changes will be made, as strange things happen... We drop a KPP forward who kicks goals, and we bring in a forward who plays in the backline. The week just past was the game where Dawes should have been brought in. I can see Dawes being a star for another team if he continues to get overlooked. VFL form gets overlooked to much at Collingwood. Danny Stanley how many games in a row did he get over 30 possies and never get picked? Surely Dawes after kicking 7 two weeks ago and then 4 in a half should be getting a game.

As much as i'd love to see Leigh Brown dropped, i don't think it will happen. His hardness will be needed against the Hawks. He can also be used against Roughead if Reid or Brown aren't selected.

Jack will be back this week, more determined and angrier then ever. He will kick a bag, bookmark it. I think Macaffer will make way for him.

Ins : Anthony, Shaw
Outs: Macaffer, McCarthy

If Jack comes in and doesn't kick a bag, I'll be thoroughly disappointed in him. Hawks now only have Schoenmakers who tends to leak goals, and Gilham who is nothing special, as key defenders. Gibson out is a huge plus for us, though it probably won't matter given our inability to move the ball through their zone. Still, I expect Cloke, Anthony and Medhurst to have a day out.

Another plus is that McGlynn now plays for the Swans, so Didak will be released. On the downside, Didak's annual destruction of Sydney will be a bit tougher if getting tagged by McGlynn.

I didn't see the game on Friday night but I did watch the VFL game so I won't give ins and outs.

I don't think that N.Brown done much yesterday along with Reid to automatically step straight back into the side but with Hawthorns tall forwards I think one of them has to come back in. Out of the two I would pick Brown.

Dawes presented well all day but really only stood out in the last quarter.

Jack was pretty good. Done things that would have been asked of him eg chasing and forward line pressure.

WE CAN'T DROP TRAVIS CLOKE, he just hit form, and Dawes is about 1/20th as good a player as Cloke.

Sorry Matty but we must be on different planets , but are you talking about the same T.Cloke who is mean't to be our power forward ?? Ok he played 1/2 a game of good football , what about last season and the 1st 2 games this year. He only kicked 22 or so goals last year which simply doesn't cut it. 2 quarters of decent football does not warrant hitting form. He still cannot kick for goal , he doesn't crunch packs as a bloke his size should, he doesn't chase or tackle. Why should supporters keep putting up with pathetic perfomances like this week in week out from our main key forward. So what if Dawes gets 2 shots on goal a game, i'd put my money on Dawes kicking 2 than Cloke kicking any at all. At least Dawes would have a crack and not dish up insipid performances like Cloke does week in week out. Even better replace Cloke with Rusling to see how the young fella's body will hold up !!!

If Shaw is fit he is an automatic selection. After that it gets tough. I haven't seen any reserves footy so I'm not sure about the form but the candidates to come in would be Dawes, Anthony, Brown & Reid. McCarthy has to go back to find confidence and form. Leigh Brown just isn't good enough at anything and in any case makes too many mistakes. Problem is, he won't get dropped. Fraser just doesn't have an impact on more than a few games a year and too often does very little at all. Wood being hurt might ordinarily have saved Fraser but the reality is he is as unlikely to be dropped as Leigh Brown. Therein lies one of our problems. Mick Malthouse.

Anyway, we can add what we don't have:
In: Dawes.
Out: McCarthy.

Unfortunately there isn't a mid to bring in so we have to try and stretch Hawthorn in the ruck and with height up forward. Simon Buckley might be a chance to come in as a tagger if he's fit but I am far from convinced he is good enough to play in a premiership.

Out: L Brown, McCarthy, Toovey ,Obree

In: Dawes, Anthony, Shaw, Reid

FB:Obrien Presti Maxwell

HB:Shaw Reid Wellingham

C: Sidebottom Swan Thomas

HF: Didak Cloke Davis

FF: Medhurst Dawes Anthony

Foll: Jolly Pendelbury Ball

Inter: Fraser Beams Lockyer Macaffer

Obree, L Brown, Toovey & McCarthy were shocking last week... There were many other that were, but you cant drop them all.. Lockyer played terrible, but he will be back in the forwardine & has good form there & can KICK!

MacCaffer has to hold his spot & derserves too.

I think we need to Bring in 3 talls in the forwardkine to starighten us up. I want to see how Dawes/Anthony/Cloke play in the same side.

Trav can then run around up the wing without having pressure to kick goals.. we will have Dawes/Anthony to do that & they can kick!!

IF shaw is not fit, then Toovey keeps his spot..

Reid/N Brown is an interesting one.. They are both simply not playing that well, but N Brown has been a nightmare... So Reid gets his shot.

I know Toovey wont get dropped and he has improved alot. But he was horrible tonight and last week. He is a good defensive player, but he fumbles more than anybody iv seen at afl level. Clearly not a natural player

Toovey didn't have a goal scored on him all night and that's a pretty common occurrence. He spends a lot of time covering other players' men when they run down field,.e.g. Harry Obrien. I thought everyone fumbled far more than usual.

Does anyone realistically think any of L.Brown, Toovey or O'Bree will get dropped? I wouldn't be opposed to see any of them given a run in the 2's, but I feel there is no chance at all.

Much more likely our only 2 exclusions will be McCarthy or Macaffer.

Simon Buckley might be a chance to come in as a tagger if he's fit but I am far from convinced he is good enough to play in a premiership.
Showed some significant improvement in the VFL this week. Not there yet, and quite obviously is not fit enough yet, but if he continues that upward trend he'll be playing seniors sooner rather than later.

After Buddy being rubbed out, there is no need to promote Reid or Brown now, as both weren't sensational in the VFL anyway, and there is just no need for them in the team this week, other then personal development.

Hopefully Heater is right, and these can be the ins and outs;

In: Shaw, Anthony
Out: MaCaffer, McCarthy

Some are calling for Leigh Brown to go out, as I did earlier in the week, but Hawthorn will try and "bully" us and play their unsociable football, it's the only hope they have with the players they have missing. Leeroy is about our only "enforcer", and he just has to play this week.

2 changes is enough, if Dawes performs well again at VFL level, bring him in for the ultimate Home and Away reward, ANZAC day.

Last chance for Fraser and Leigh Brown this week though, they need to improve their output or they can miss ANZAC day and beyond.

Toovey is my match up for Rioli, as placing Shaw on him is just plain wrong, as we need Heath's rebound.

Yep. Reid and Brown stay in the VFL.

What I'd do personally.

In: Dawes, Shaw, Anthony
Out: Fraser, O'Bree, McCarthy

What i predict:

In: Shaw
Out: McCarthy

Toovey is my match up for Rioli, as placing Shaw on him is just plain wrong, as we need Heath's rebound.

Toovey struggles badly against small forwards with agility. When that small forward is also going to make every one of his kicks under pressure, it leaves me no choice but to politely decline your match-up.

Harry should, and I think will, go to him.

Harry has beaten Rioli in the past, has the form, should definitely go to him. I'd assume

Wasn't able to watch the Hawks vs Dogs on Sunday, can anyone shed some light on how they went with their forward line?

Should be some interesting match-ups. I think Harry should go to Campbell Brown and Toovey to Rioli. I think Harry provides too much run out to match up on Rioli, who would be chasing him down every time. Toovey has some pace and provides little rebounding out of defence so he can focus solely on pressuring Rioli. Whereas Brown provides a lot of pressure on defences but this is during the in close stuff. I doubt he could smother Harry's dash out of defence.

No Buddy is helpful. If they don't go very tall up forward I would almost suggest throwing Maxwell up forward (he has played there before) to line up on Hodge. Maxwell would provide a target for us whilst putting a lot of pressure on Hodge and (hopefully) suppressing his influence when rebounding out of our 50.

I feel we need to go tall in our forward line as I think the Hawks lack quality tall backmen. They have serviceable kids, but if put under a lot of pressure from some strong talls I feel we would get the better of them. I know Nathan Brown hasn't been playing that well but I feel he would be far better in our 22 than Leigh Brown. Would be a better key back if put there but could also swing forward to provide another big, crashing target which he could surely do better than Leigh Brown. In fact anyone would be better than L.Brown. If someone comes in, gets no touches, he has done better than Leeroy provided he doesn't give away mindless free kicks.

Also, I agree with most people on here re:O'Bree. Surely Ball should take his spot, as he provides equal ball winning (and unfortunately equally poor skills), but has better endurance and toughness.

What I would like to see happen:

IN: Shaw, Anthony. Also N.Brown/Dawes if going tall
OUT: O'Bree, L.Brown. And Macaffer/JMac.

What I think WILL happen:

IN: Shaw
OUT: Macaffer/JMac

Don't know bout hazza on Cyril if he pushes into the midfield. I wouldn't
mind seeing daisy have a go on Cyril to be honest

wouldn't be surprised if they gave wellingham a crack on him. Although I'd prefer to Wellers to rove. He has been very good getting his hands on the footy in the middle and at stoppages.
