I simply don't get this "drop McKenzie" rubbish. He's a kid who's been more than servicable when he's played. We know all there is to know about Levi. He's tries his guts out, but lacks polish. McKenzie will be a 150+ game player for the club and we need to put games into him. Not to mention that he's been playing in the backline whilst Levi is a midfielder. One will not be dropped for the other.
I didn't say drop him. But if Wells and or Swallow comes back and it's down to him and Levi, then it's Levi stays for me. People seem to forget that Levi is not just a contested ball winner, but also a good runner. Just look at the running he did in the Port game. If McKenzie lacks one critical element in his game, it's his running power and contested work.

I'm not sure if Swallow coming back is the best idea, especially with the bye so close. I read a report that he blew up pretty quickly on Sunday. Yes the sub role could be an option, but if a player goes down early, do we want a half fit or 3/4 fit Swallow having to play close to a full game at AFL intensity?

I'm all for him playing the next two in the VFL and being cherry ripe for Brisbane after the bye.

Nice Trolling - if you were in fact serious, now is the time to pretend you were joking......alternatively you may wish to admit to a total lack of any football knowledge.

I am serious black although jumping out of his skin with regards to fitness has no touch at vfl level he will smash it and come back knowing he can. Even you on your couch swallowing handfuls of chips must understand the fickle thing that ball handling confidence is I would rather give him a leather overdose in vfl than have him struggle against GC and the same with Basti I was looking at either Basti or Greenwood but greenwood had 3 more tackles and no fringe possessions and could see him being used on GA not Basti. Want me to pass the chips

Extremely knowledgable ha ha ha ha LSHIPM

You would have thought GC are coming off back to back flags on this thread. Our losses this year have been a mixture of not coming in with the right mental application as well as playing sides at the top of their game. Come out switched on and we should win well.

despite playing against average opposition, the GC have been quite impressive. If we have any lapses and they are on their game, they could potentially steal a win.

Yep, that's my point. With the right mental application we won't lose. Come out a little complacent and we can lose handle of the game. GC are one of those sides that will stick around all day if we give them a sniff early. Put them to the sword at the start and a convincing win should follow.

Can't see us losing to the Gold Coast with our improved game style this year.

We have done well against Sydney and Freo...two sides who perennially like to bomb the ball into the 50. Our structure in the back half has allowed us to outnumber the forwards and rebound from defence.

Suns will have to be very patient in the way they enter the forward 50 and show lots of maturity in this area. I'm not sure they have the maturity and patience to beat us.

Because Scott's plan revolves around running out games hard. No point having a cramping Swallow in the last qtr.

Looking at this it's obvious Swallow knows where to be to get the ball and can tackle very well. My 2 concerns are his ability to run out 4 quarters (at AFL level) and his disposal in his video wasn't exactly great. A few handballs behind the teammate, the dropped mark etc. I'd give him 2 weeks to focus on the 2 concerns and unleash him against the Lions at Etihad after the break.

Ah I see. No sub for us this week then.

I'm not saying this is the case but I wouldn't pick a player knowing we HAVE to sub a player during the 3rd quarter. Someone gets injured in the 1st and we're screwed. Or pick Swallow as the sub thinking he can come on for a quarter or quarter and a half and dominate but again there is an injury in the 1st.

If Swallow is picked this week I'm sure it's because the staff know he can run out a game.

Well pretty sure both Werribee and NB both have the bye the same week NMFC do.

McKenzie got 7 touches, 6 kicks in 17% game time and probably should play a full game.

Swallow can either play in the possible cold and wet in the VFL for one week and then rest the following or at Etihad this week. Mmm...why do people think playing in the VFL has a lot less chance of injury in worse conditions?

To me if Wells and Swallow come back, the logical choice is drop Nahas (Wells and Harvey can provide more output in the role) and have Swallow as the sub.

We need to win this game which given GC struggled against Melbourne recently with 47 or so inside 50s, we should. I really rate their midfield very but defensively we should win out against their forward line.

Irrespective of the ins and outs and who is the sub, no one is doing much the following week.

This game is going to be bloody hard and only 100% effort will give us the win, therefore we must play our best available players. If Wells has recovered from his foot injury he plays, if the medical and coaching staff are confident Swallow can get through this week, he plays.
Forget we have a bye next week, let's worry about this week and getting a win. If memory serves we go into a bye week on the back of a loss all to often leaving a sour taste for two weeks. Make sure we win and think about the bye after.

Agree but I'd start Swallow with a view to sub. If an injury happens then you can limit his TOG but you can go in thinking there will be an injury.

Having an 8 day break to dwell over a loss is bad enough. 2 weeks will be torture.

I don't think we really have anyone that will seriously stop Ablett, I would maybe put Greenhead onto O'Meara or Bennell and try to get Basti to go more head to head with Ablett.
if that happened put ablett down for 45 and 4 goals again... needs to be a total team effort to limit his influence... each stoppage and in general play someone needs to be aware & several blocks laid and it needs to be a team effort (even if 1 player given the 'job') they all need to make it a focus.. do this and we win the game.

Blokes jump on every little bloody thing on here, eh.

I may have exaggerated slightly but I don't know how you can think they deserved to get beaten by 100 points. They in no way disgraced themselves. They had -16 inside 50s in that game, we had -18 and -20 against Collingwood and Essendon, and got done by 30-40. Admittedly, we should have got beaten by at least 10 goals in each game, but do you think we deserved to get done by 100?

It was more to illustrate their inefficient scoring.

This is a perfect illustration of why stats mean absolutely ****ing nothing.

(Not having a go at you RB.)

Stats arent everything but if ta wanna use em.....

We had about 40 less possessions than Collingwood (most in the first half) and deserved the 6 goal loss we copped cause we butered the ball.

GC had more than 110 less possessions than Hawthorn. 110!! Id say they also got what they deserved.

But stuff it I dont think its a massive deal. We come mentally prepared this week and we will win and win well.
