I think Doedee's game (and his season) has been a bit underrated. One of those senior players who gets judged extremely harshly on here for whatever reason. First quarter was very good and he totally pansted Gunston who barely got near it. Wasn't that influential in the second half but didn't do anything wrong, which is totally fine for a defender. Having a very good season and should be nowhere near the conversation to be dropped. Same with Smith.

Selection is really hard for this week but I suspect it'll just be McHenry and Worrell out for Hinge and Smith, with Jones moving up the field again and McHenry probably the sub.

When teams stay over for two consecutive weekends at an away venue, stats say that 75% of the time it often backfires over half of the majority of times. On the second weekend in particular, even allowing for the acclimatising vs homesickness factor when balanced against own bed familiarity, sleep patterns and biorhythms.

Fly in, fly out. Trust the science

With two defenders coming back, is this the week to give Max a rest?

The bye is coming up in three weeks, and really, there isn't anything there to indicate he needs it. So it seems unnecessary. Especially as Gold Coast also boast some dangerous forwards. Nor has Max played poorly, he just ran into a player who you can have a solid game and still concede 3-4 goals.

Well this is going to be an interesting selection week. Smith and Hinge are automatic selections and unfortunately for Worrell, Milera was lights out today. So, on that logic:

Out: Worrell, McHenry (demoted to sub)

In: Smith, Hinge.

Do we have the balls to drop Doedee?
Drop Doedee, to retain Worrell?

Maybe later if/when:
--- Doedee's poor form continues
--- Worrell builds his tank.

Out :
Sloane rested McHenry

In:
Hinge Dowling

Sub:
Smith? (If fit)

The first goal Charlie kicked he got jelly legs and collapsed in a heep, senior players shouldn’t be doing that

I think Doedee has had a good year - but wasn’t his best night tonight. Went to ground several times at crucial moments that gave up goals. I would suggest he goes to ground more often than our other players of similar size and position

I’d have Sloane sub seems to have more impact when the sting is out of the game
I think its a truism - I found it myself at times - when you get a certain age you have to wait for the game to come back to your pace

In the wet conditions everyone will get tired and slow down and thats when I found I excelled

I see you’ve been wearing Sex Panther tonight, DABM

INS: Smith, Hinge, Gollant

Outs: Sloane (rest), Murphy, Parnell

McHenry goes to the sub.

Based on this my back 6 are:

Max, Butts, Doled
Smith, Murray, Worrell

Milera as the 7th defender. Hinge, Scholl, Jones, Sog to rotate through the wings.

Forward line - happy to go tall. Think replacing Smurf with Gollant resembles our 2017 forward line. Walker = Walker, TT = Jenkins, Fog = McGovern, Gollant to play the Lynch connector role. Keep Rachele (keep him as fresh as possible for finals midfield minutes) & Rankine in the forward line with Keays/Pedlar rotating through.

FOG also looks off. He is having a reverse 2022.

First 4 games: 13 goals, 4 behinds. 27 marks (7 contested & 15 Marks inside 50) for 53 touches and 2 tackles. FF - 3 FA - 2
Next 5 games: 2 goals, 3 behinds. 18 marks (2 contested & 6 marks inside 50) for 43 touches and 10 tackles. FF - 2 - FA 6.

The tackles, marks and free kick stats just show that his form has reverted to early 2022. He is playing without confidence, not playing in front and has lost his swagger. 3 of his last 5 games he has been held goal-less. Tex has been held goal less in 2 of his last 45 games.

It's hard to blame the knee injury - especially since his first two games after the injury were really good and he has been poor for the next 5. Maybe the club/FOG needs to bring back the psychologist he credited for turning around his season last year. Maybe bring him in during the bye so FOG can produce the back half of the year.

Murphy needs to go back to the SANFL until we get hit by the injury bug. He is an honest trier, but just isn't big/athletic enough to go through the middle. He is wasted as a forward - as he panics in front of goal and his little legs struggle to kick the ball more than 25 metres across his body.

Murphy was at his best and passable in his first 4 games, but has really struggled since. He doesn't impact the scoreboard - 2.3 from 10 games. He has 1 goal assist in his last 6 games (had 8 in his first 4). He is a player whose best is barely passable, but when he is not playing well is an absolute liability.

His last two weeks have been shocking.

Really rate GC at the moment. I’m also very concerned that we won’t be acclimatised to the conditions, where as they will be. Most likely 30 degrees and humid at first bounce. Let’s hope the club started thinking about this before this week. GC with a clear advantage here. My brain says we lose this one.

Can we please understand that Darwin is entering the dry season.

It won’t be 30C at the first bounce, it will be somewhere in the mid-20’s (24-26C) and the humidity will be around 40% mark.

The Darwin day time temperatures will be 30C for the whole week.

And to give you some perspective, the humidity during yesterdays game in Adelaide fluctuated between 80-95%.

If there is one person who will know how to manage this it will be Burgess.
