Nah theyre not gonna make the other two teams do a 6 day break, we will be playing friday
Agree, Friday.
If we win, it's still a guaranteed 7 day break to the prelim, possibly 8 if we get the Saturday prelim.

(Granted, a night match isn't really an extra day but it is an extra sleep which helps the body)

Can't really ask for more than 8/7/7/7 or 8/8/7/7 day breaks when being up against 3 away finals if we get that far.

Waiting for the tears and moans from the Cattery about not being able to play at Geelong in front of 35,000 people. It should be noted that Essendon and Doggies usually have their home finals at the MCG to maximise crowds and to meet contractual commitments with the MCG.

The width at the MCG will help us big time, especially seeing Duncan looks like he won’t play meaning Selwood is their winger and he showed on Friday he is really more an inside mid.

I’m wondering whether Scott will be jolted into realising Geelong’s game style does not stack up well at wider grounds and that he needs another gear for finals because if they dish up the same again as against the Pies, it will suit us.

Unchanged team for us. Our game with NicNac back was able to go up another gear and cope with added finals pressure.

Surely even drama queen Chris will realise they need a genuine ruck against NicNat and Hickey.

I am hoping that we use Yeo on Dangerflap. How many times did Danger remonstrate about a free kick against him last night? Made me realise he really does get a soft run with the umpires and when finals comes and the best umpires come out, Patrick responds with the “what me” or “your joking” moans.

Saturday night you'd think
Gives our supporters and yours time to get there
Me thinks not. We played Thursday, you played Friday. The other game will be determined Saturday.

The only way they can do it is everyone gets a 7 day break except us who get an 8 day break but have to travel across the country.

See you on Friday.

Hutch to move from forward line to tag kelly or selwood so masten likely to get dropped and maybe cameron or ah chee come in

Can’t see Masten being dropped bud.

Why on earth would we tag Selwood... heard a few calls for this and am very surprised.

Ablett, Dangerfield, Kelly or Touhy have to be the targets surely.

Selwood is a good player still but not what he was.

Hutch to Selwood. Good match up in size and athletic attributes.
Nelson on Ablett a better match, as Nelson can run with him through the middle as well as in defence. Not sure I'd be too comfortable with Hutch following Ablett if Ablett drifts into a forward pocket.
Danger untaggable when he's on. Damage control with a match up like Yeo is the best bet.

Your spot on about danger, too strong and untaggable when hot!
Would be a waste of a tag.
I would be sending hutch to kelly, seeing how Selwood has been down on form a bit this year.
Nelson to Ablett should be a pretty good match up too.
Yeo to go head to head with danger

Hard to see any changes to a team that impressed, other than for match-ups.
Oscar for Waterman would be understandable..and I'm pro Waterman, but Oscar is Oscar!
Masten and Hickey stay. Masten does his unrewarded work and has improved his flaws.
Hickey's worst still allows NN to do his best with a rest.
The Cats-Pies game was boring as batsh*t after our game..plus the jumper clash??
Am feeling we can do the Cats at MCG, if Scott allows us to play like we did against the Dons.
But their backs will be against the wall and Baby God might pull out a miracle?
I like Hutch to Kelly, Yeo with Dangerfeel, Nelson(if included) to Ablett.

The AFL used to have an agreement with the MCG that, if there are finals in Victoria on any weekend, at least one of them has to be at the MCG.

If that is still in play, seeing as they won’t know whether Richmond will be playing next week, the AFL would contractually have to schedule the West Coast/Geelong game at the MCG.

I can understand Geelong being livid about having to play Collingwood at the MCG, handing them the home ground advantage - just like we had to in the GF last year.

But against us they still have all the rights of a finals ‘home’ team, that being the fact they play it in their home state and we have to travel.

So they just need to get over that, recognise that it is a national competition, which only guarantees home state advantage for finals other than the GF.

Have Geelong ever complained about playing the GF at the MCG?

You forget who we're dealing with.

Absolutely nothing would surprise.

The AFL almost never admit to being wrong.

Why would they all of a sudden change their stance on finals at the MCG?

They have taken the heat on this issue so why buckle and change policy?

AFL is all about $$$$ not integrity. You think Gill doesnt get bonuses for crowd numbers and turnover?

Selwoods face last night ended up looking like a smashed crab.

Cats got beat up and picked up injuries. Duncan knee, Bews ankle, Rohan is playing injured knee, shoulder and now hammie.

Somewhat of a CATastrophy really.:think::cool:

Same team.. except Nelson has to go. He was a liability.
I think he'll be a fantastic, hard hitting defender with a cool head and solid hit in future. However, at the moment he's too green and coughed up some awful stuff on Thurs. Can't have that in finals: especially not against top teams such as Geelong.

Who to replace him with?

Edit: after reading through suggestions: Watson was outstanding and reliable.
Nelson who has played 50 games is too green, compared to Watson who has played 1 or 2?
Yeah nah.

Duggan is a better match up for Ablett than Nelson. When Maynard was on Ablett he attacked from half back and Ablett let him go. Duggan is more inclined to break lines Than Nelson, it's just a matter of is he in good enough form to do defend Ablett.
50/50 call.

Apart from getting caught twice, I thought Nelson was good.

No change

Agreed. People are calling for him to be dropped because he took the game on a couple of times. That be can reviewed and coached for him to fix it up to make better decisions.

Duggan in is madness. Lack of game time. Was putrid against the Hawks where he attacked nothing. He's not up and running at all. He's been solid in the past but unless absolutely necessary, there's no spot for him.

Which IMHO is dumb. Schofield locks down on his man and allows Barrass and Gov to "float" around the defence. He should play in every game this finals series.

Completely agree with this, Schofield is our tall defender that will man up tight, which allows Barrass or McGovern more leeway to zone off

We are much more solid defensively with him in the team
