What time does it start? I might have to sort out some flex time so I can follow it properly.

How do the interstaters follow it? Radio? Is it on fox?

on foxtel, either 7:30 or 8:30.

AFL.com will prob have a live radio stream and live chat following it. They are trying to build up the television appeal of things like this (and the brownlow,AA night) so they can package them in with the afl season in tv rights negotiations to get more $$. Based on this i think there will be more things like interviews, player girlfriends/familys and expert commentatory live (like the AA night).

I remember FOX showing the first 20 or so picks then switching to interviews over the rest which caused a bit of rage on here. They showed the selections down the bottom as they came through, but it's always nice to see the names actually read out. SEN gives a pretty comprehensive coverage of the thing.

If Colqhorn (sp?) and Macrae are considered 1st rounders, I can see why Hine might want to give this a berth and pick up a player.

If we can pick up Simpson with an early pick, that's an absolute steal.

A few people with good knowledge (including knightmare i think) have said simpson is more a 2nd round prospect, def not a steal for a 1st round. Try not to get sucked in too much by a short highlights package ;)

My plan of attack (as it stands with the three picks) would be with the three picks, to take the best available pacy player, the best available marking forward, and then whoever else is the next best available.

If any of the three players that end up on that board are either South Australian and/or exceptionally highly rated (i.e. Troy Menzel or Jake Stringer), then I'd take them at 18/19 ahead of the Crows' pick. After losing Tippett, I would think that they're definitely going to draft a South Australian.

As a loose guide, in terms of preference, I'd be looking at something like:

#18: Dayle Garlett/Josh Simpson/Ben Kennedy
#19: Mason Shaw/Tim O'Brien/Tim Membrey
#21: Jesse Lonergan/Taylor Garner/Sam Colquhoun

Let Hine and Rendell sort out who the actual best players for us would be, but those are the types I'd look at. Of course, despite having a good track record of predicting who our first draft picks will be, I'm also notoriously bad at picking what our strategies will be, so look for us to draft four key defenders and a ruckman. Tanner Smith/Liam McBean come on down!

Dont know heaps about the draft this year but have read a fair bit of late and catching up.
I have seen a couple of TAC games through the season as well....

Would really like to see us pick up the following (in no particular order):

1. Midfielder with blistering pace and great skills by foot. Also a goalkicker with X-Factor - who is the best player to fit this description?
2. Tough hard nut midfielder who has a go at everything and is happy to get his own ball - who is the best player to fit this description?
3. Best available KPP. Preferably a forward. I dont know too many names but I have seen Spencer White from the Jets play this season and he looks exciting. Worth a stab possibly?

Anyway would love some info on which players would best fit these descriptions

Yep I would be very happy with any of the first two selection and probably Lonergan at 21 as still not sold on Garner and Colquhoun.

Surprised you didnt have Vlaustin in VV.

They had a Red Button where it showed Teams Calling out there Picks last year

Dayle Garlett/Josh Simpson/Ben Kennedy - Realistically only Simpson will be available unless the other two slide

2. Tough hard nut midfielder who has a go at everything and is happy to get his own ball - who is the best player to fit this description?
Jesse Lonergan/Nick Vlastuin/Nathan Hrovat - all are chances with our picks

3. Best available KPP. Preferably a forward. I dont know too many names but I have seen Spencer White from the Jets play this season and he looks exciting. Worth a stab possibly?
Mason Shaw/Tim Membrey/Kristian Jaksch - don't expect Jaksch to be there at our picks but the other two are chances to be around. Not sure we need or will go after a key forward though.

I see Gault as more our future no.2 ruckman rather than a pure key forward and as a deep forward you'd have to back Shaw/White in over him, but I see Gault as being more likely to make the grade. So likely would play Gault more high half forward or just fit into that forward structure alongside our two key talls: Cloke with Paine or maybe Moore when he comes along as those key targets.
But as mentioned in other posts there are varying views on Gault. He has been very impressive in the back half and could very easily later on establish himself back there also.

I'm a big Vlastuin man. Just such a great fit for our team and off a back flank would be exciting with later midfield potential. Would be wrapped if we got him on draft day with one of those selections.

It's really interesting to see whether we add another KPP this year. With Moore soon to come then the addition of Richmond who we appear to be interested in using as a KPP I'm not so sure we need to add further to our KPP stocks.

It looks like we have:
Ruck: Jolly/Witts/Ceglar/Gault.
KPF: Cloke/Lynch/Paine/Richmond.
KPD: Reid/Keeffe/Brown/Hartley.

So I'm pretty content with the quality and depth we have. If anything I would have liked a Giles/McIntosh as that immediate ruckman with questions around Jolly and our other rucks a fair way off but our KPP stocks are very strong. Moore to come soon and with 3 key forwards and 3 key defenders of AFL quality already and we are looking in a good position with this group.

I just don't see any of the KPPs cracking our rotation. Jaksch I would have very strongly recommended had Cloke left, but with him staying on I'd let Adelaide take him with their selection if available at our selection and add to our midfield/backline stocks among other things which could more immediately help us.

Knighta here is a challenge for you (and for anyone else wanting to have a go). I have a view the first 17 players to go will be below. Dont worry if you dont agree just tell me what you would do in the scenario if you were Hine;

1. Greater Western Sydney - Lachie Whitfield
2. Greater Western Sydney - Brodie Grundy
3. Greater Western Sydney - Jim Toumpas
4. Melbourne - JOhnathan Orourke
5. Western Bulldogs - Lachie Plowman
6. Western Bulldogs - Jake Stringer
7. Port Adelaide - Sam Mayes
8. Brisbane Lions - Oliver Wines
9. Richmond - Jackson Macrae
10. Essendon - Joe Daniher
11. Carlton - Dayle Gartlett
12. Greater Western Sydney - Nick Vlaustin
13. St Kilda - Ben Kennedy
14. Greater Western Sydney - Troy Menzel
15. North Melbourne - Kristian Jaksch
16. Geelong - Tim Membrey
17. Fremantle - Mason Shaw
18. Collingwood - ?
19. Collingwood - ?
20. Adelaide - On the basis Collingwood will know who Crows will take here insert whover of (in order) you didnt take out of Lonergan, Wright or Atkins
21. Collingwood - ?

You picked the eyes out of that Snoop. For me thats a zero slider draft. I would pick those guys at this stage, but Taylor Garner would be hard to say no to and Haynes as an option for Coloquoun. I think we have to pick Simpson on a needs basis.

it is ......but i think this one might be as the top 15 or so are stand outs for me. Also makes you realise why Hine might want to package those picks up and try and enter into a higher spot. Just not sure who would do that with us.

Im really hoping that the Adelaide/Sydney stand off continues and that Adelaide let Tippett go into the draft so as to send a message to other clubs about future dealings. In which case another club would surely pick him up before our draft picks, and then when current draft planning gets thrown out of whack we may just pick up a slider or two :)

well thats wishful thinking anyway

I agree its a pretty solid first 15-17 or so. We must remember its a compromised draft so there is a few missing that would have been in it and made it a very good first 20 and put us right into some nice players. Sadly we are kind of the ones just missing out on that top line quality.

However as always there will be a slider for whatever reason, hopefully more. Its just less likely than previous years. Someone like Clurey for example I still think will go earlier. I would really like to get deeper into it to though reduce the risk of no sliders.

The Saints are still fairly actively trying to trade for a Key Back & Ruck so I think they are the best opportunity to arrange an upgrade with, if we can help them secure a Brown, Hickey, Warnock type. The rest of the picks before us look to be locked & laoded at this stage. The Saints #13 has me salivating, with that we can secure a star. We could almost guarantee one of a Menzel/Garlett/Stringer/Vlastutin/Kennedy. I would be wrapped with any one of those.

Why would we want another KPF when we have cloke who isnt old plus paine, richmond, gault, moore who are all young and promising. We have much less depth in midfield and defence imo thats where we should draft

I dont think they will be in the top 17.

I have them Haynes @ #23 and Graham @ #33. The latter I slide around a bit as probably his biggest fan. Couple of things that may have him closer to their than 20 IMV. Terrific player.
