Really starting to hope we pick up Garlett. I think he's exactly the type we need. Pacey outside goal scoring mid.

Garlett, Simpson and Shaw would make me pretty happy out of the first round

he is not really that outside Garlett, he is more than capable of winning his own football
in the future he will be capable of starting in the centre square to give you a point of difference
i hope he is available

Wet dream, albeit from limited viewing, is Simpson. Won't hazard a guess on ranking players but would also love to get White at 39. Anything else is a bone-ass.

I don't mind Simpson but I am very weary about drafting a few of these WA indigenous boys purely based on reports of how "tight" they are with their home states in WA.

The go home factor is leaving me scared off.

Hi Matt Rendell.
You're fired! ;)

if we take simpson in the first round, and white at 39 we've paid big overs for both of em

Oh, I see. Where should they be taken?

Jason Phelan says he could be top 10 but likely to go 10-20. How exactly is that overs when we are late 1st round and have 3 picks where we can take a risk? Massive overs?

Pretty sure I saw White as being 20-70 range. On that score, you may be right.

Simpson may be an outside chance to be taken at 39, as non WA clubs may be scared by his go home factor. On talent a late 20's pick would be ideal IMO.

White is hard to place, as the buddy comparison has made him pretty overrated. Maybe in the early 50's unless someone is sucked in by the hype and his X-factor.

Taking a risk on him with 3 picks in the 1st round is worth taking in my view. The psych interview stuff might tell, but I think sometimes we overlay indigenous players a little too much with go home factor. There are a fair few non-indigenous players who claim the same.

I'm sure though the club will rake right over this and make sure it's not a big thing, otherwise airlift Geraldton and his family and plonk it on top of South Yarra.

Even though I listed the picks I would like to see taken in a previous post. I also wouldn't mind hearing some names who are plucked from obscurity who Hine shows a particular liking too.

No question - Experience tells us that they're no more susceptible to it than anybody else.

Lurking these draft threads just isn't much fun, without the odd post here and there...

I would argue the exact opposite. Simpson is a clear top 10 pick based on talent, he doesn't need to be getting 20+ touches a game to directly impact the result. The only reason he slides is teams wanting bigger bodies. And I would be very surprised if there was any go home factor at play with him. He finished his schooling in Adelaide before moving back to WA, can't blame the kid for that.

And, I'd certainly take White in the 25-35 range. Not a case of buying into the hype, but realising he is simply more talented than the majority of the other KPPs. And in a midfielder's draft, I don't think you can overrate pure talent when it comes to KPPs.

Id simpson goes in the top 10 ill eat my hat.

I guess we'll have to wait and see with them.. recruiters know more than us both

I remember people flipping out over the mere suggestion that Stephen Hill might go in the first round - On this board in particular, people weren't happy with the suggestion that we might take him as high as #11. In the end he went pick #3 to Freo.

I'm not saying that Simpson will go that high - Just that armchair analysts can underestimate the appeal of certain prospects, and Simpson, like Hill, is certainly a type that historically tends to be valued pretty highly by recruiters.

I can definitely see the value in him going around the 10 mark because if you can lift that workrate and get him more involved he has star potential IMO with his hurt factor. There are a lot of solid players in the top end of this draft but few wowee types of which Simpson could be one. He would really compliment the Brisbane midfield in particular if they thought Jaksch or Membrey could slide to 24. Personally I like the mix of Rockliff, Redden, Zorko, Beams and Moloney doing the grunt work with Rich, Polec and Simpson on the outside to cut you up.....

Also you just have to look at Menzel despite all the concerns over his knees he won't slip past 12 or 13 and is likely to go in the first 6 or 7. He's another with that x factor that clubs love. Especially those that need a bit of a boost on and off field.....

That Simpson is seriously dual sided. A dual sided Lewis Jetta....hhhhhhhmmmmmm.

Is no. 21 in those clips Mason Shaw? Serious overhead ability.

Serious.......Yes!

I'd love Garlett. I'm just as sceptical he will reach our pick. Shaw is an interesting one given we didn't pick up Stewart, traded Dawes and turfed Ceglar. We lack depth at key forward. I'll be interested where he lands on draft day as his range seems a bit open ended. Simpson is the most likely of those three to fall I feel and another I really rate for his AFL attributes, geez his lateral movement and pace are great, but needs to work on his output and number of posessions I think. Another it will be interesting to see where they go.

Melbourne may be stripped of their draft picks if they are found guilty before the draft, which gives us pick 17.
Add Tippett and Viney in the mix means we are going to get a very talented footballer or two!

and Crows might lose there's so we could have Pick 17,18,19
