Emma doing a mock this year? And has Burgan retired now that this other mock is up on the AFL site?

Burgan works with Melbourne now. AFL.com seem to have someone different every year now it seems with the public thinking they know the draft best and hating on whoever is doing the official AFL.com phantom each year - which is made obvious with all the negative comments whenever the yearly AFL.com draft writer is answering questions.

It's unfortunate but when people see all the drafts on bigfooty and see some players rated in different positions to where they expect it often has the effect of bringing out the worst in people and it brings down what otherwise could have been some very good draft discussion.

Is that it? or could it be that some people recognise that those doing phantom drafts know nothing more than my old black Labrador.
Not saying it is not good discussion, because it is and I really enjoy it, but I think its worth understanding it's nothing more than speculation by people who are basically throwing darts at a spinning wheel with draftees names on it and then proclaiming "my phantom draft is the best"

Thanks for the info. Pity people are such *****. If the mocks are too obvious they get canned for recycling others' opinions, if they give an opinion they get smoked because people get defensive.

AFL.com get it closest every year, regardless of who does it. They just have so much access to clubs getting to talk to recruiters that it's hard for them not to.

No draft is ever perfect and one change in the draft order can make the rest of the draft completely wrong and that happens with every draft in every sport no matter who makes the draft.

AFL.com as disappointing for the lack of detail and how brief they are for their profiles then this year not going beyond the top 30 - because they know from there the draft really branches out and could go any way with that 30-200 area even with so many variations possible.

I don't think anyone goes out of their way and says "my draft is the best". It's not what it's about and it's more about giving people a feel of who could get drafted, some idea of what these players can do/can't do and who each club might be looking at and seeing how close we can go to what actually happens on draft day.

Not everyone feels uncomfortable dealing with uncertainty. It is not a case of throwing darts at wheels. To suggest that is all that is involved in a phantom draft is doing a disservice to people like Knightmare, Snoop Dog, Chris, Quigley and Emma Quayle. Club needs are matched with available players and a lot of thought goes into selections. It's kind of fun trying to decide who goes where and comparing the ultimate destination of players against speculation.

I'd be pretty shattered if that was our return, TBH.

**** YEAH

this is so good for us

Tim O'brien is a lock to be a collingwood player now tomorrow
I actually think the obrien selection is the least like affected by the crows decision. Freo are the big danger regarding obrien.

I just have a feeling Jesse lonergan is a lock to us.

how would grundy and witts work together?
I would say brilliantly. Much like cox and nic nat. Isn't Grundy's forward work one of his assets?

Witts has also shown he can play forward.

Hine saying clubs will go needs based gives me hope someone will slide whether Grundy or someone else.

Was bored so came up with this, previous picks 18,19,20

2005 - Bailey, Dempsey and Bower
2006 - Leroy Jetta, Grigg and Hislop
2007 - Rance, Ward and Notte
2008 - Shuey, Strauss and Swift
2009 - Tapscott, Griffiths and Fyfe
2010 - Watson, I.Smith and Pitt
2011 - B.McKenzie, Kavanagh and Crozier

What to take of that, not much. It shows not to expect too much from the crop, however I've got faith that Hine/our resources are more advanced than many of those clubs, as well as the fact that more emphasis is placed on drafting than say 2005. If we can nail two of the three picks we should be very happy.

Thats not a bad return... At least one of each yeah is definitely serviceable or better.
Dempsey
Grigg
Ward
Shuey
Fyfe
Watson

But yes.. we can hope for a ripper of a slider!! Even if there is no slider, Kennedy, Lonergan, Clurey, O'Brien, Wood, Membrey are all a good chance of being good AFL players.
