Done deals:

  • Zane Trew, Jamaine Jones and Jordyn Baker delisted

Ongoing discussions:

  • List Manager Matt Clarke appeared on Sept 11 Gettable - Click spoiler below for summary
On the draft: "We predicted that the draft was strong, but it's probably gotten stronger during the year."

On top end of draft: "You could probably make five or six different choices and get it right."

On Pick 3: "I reckon there's five (players) around that mark."

On splitting: "I think you want to hold an early selection if you can. The depth of this group allows you to maybe have some movement there, and see what you can do to bring in more talent in the first 20-25 picks. Easier said than done, and I think most clubs would be saying the same thing. We'll see what we can do."

On Liam Baker: "He's still yet to make a decision. They're still weighing up a few things. We'd love to get Liam on board from what he offers from a talent and leadership point of view. We understand where we're at as a group, we're rebuilding our group, we need to add some guys in the middle tier to support our young group."

On Jack Graham: "We've got a number of players that we're speaking to. A bit of a wait and see on that one as well. We'll talk to a number of guys."

On Shai Bolton: "I think it will be difficult for anybody, really. He's heavily contracted and a high quality player."

On James Peatling: "He's heavily involved in a finals series at the moment so I don't want to comment too much on it, but I think there's a number of guys that have been playing really good footy this year that could suit what we do and what other clubs do. He's taken his footy to another level this year."

On Tom Barrass: "We've had an early discussion with Hawthorn about it, they understand where we're at. He's nominated Hawthorn as his ideal destination. We want what we think he's worth, as a genuine key back in the competition that can do what he can do. We're obviously mindful of getting an appropriate deal for West Coast."

On Tom Clurey: "Maybe (note: sounded very non enthused). We'd probably need some key back depth, whether that's through the draft or trade and free agency."

On Jack Darling: "We've had initial discussions with his management group about (moving). We're open to talking, as we are with all of our players, but Jack's contracted with us."

On Liam Ryan: "I expect him to be at West Coast next year, yes." (The most definitive answer of the day by a mile, a non-starter of a talking point.)

On out of contact players e.g. Rotham, Witherden, Jones: "We're still working through what it looks like from a list point of view, and how many selections we'll want to have, and players that may come in and potentially may go out. You might want to give a coach an opportunity to look at these guys."

On Harley Reid: "We've had discussions most of the year with his management group. I think it sits in a really good place. We're open to doing really whatever they want to do to be honest. We're really confident in building the right system around Harley, on and off field, to make sure that he's really comfortable, that he's going to play his best footy, and his long term future."

On Jake Waterman's new deal: "Yep, really close. We're working really closely with his management on that. I expect that we'll have something done pretty soon."

On Oscar Allen: "We've been talking with Oscar and his manager most of the year on that one. We're going through some stuff at the moment. I think we'll be ok with that one."

Baker is happening for 14 whether we like it or not, grabbing 24 back is a good deal. What fans think and what the experts think are entirely different things.

If Eagles first round choice is still going to be available at 6 and we grab another first rounder so be it.

What is that being based on. Vic media nuffies?

Will keep the powder (nappies) dry until we see the full deal.

It manifestly is.

"it is peoples jobs to recruit for the club, us on here just have an opinion on what we see."

That's just a blank appeal to authority. Yeah they're paid to do it, so what? It's the deliverances of expert knowledge vs silly layman opinion?

Obviously there's a kind of idealistic or impractical mob-think that the fanbase can be prone to, and no one thinks club decisions should be somehow democratic, but I wonder how the relevant people would feel about pretty much everyone being totally dismayed with their conduct.
Nothing expert about trading #14 for Baker, and trading Barrass for #14 and little else.

14 for Baker? I think that's very close to happening after the Barrass deal.

Not draft/trade related but on Trade Radio atm.

Discussion with Ben Brown is great - intelligent without the usual footy euphamisms.

Remember when we all thought a new list manager would put behind us the days of being soft at the trade table?

No more Pie man, no more crazy Vozzo.

Surely things will be different.

We’re all idiots, at least now I can brace myself and deal with it. I just wish I was wearing knee pads today. 🤣

Trade week update:
WCE- yet to see any movement on either the Barrass trade or the Baker trade however the BF board is sending out a flood warning as they need to release 2 dam gates as the level of piss is threatening to cause a catestrophic dam wall failure without a release. Authorities are concerned the gates wont be able to deal with the catchment deluge when a deal does get done.
Residents are advised to evacuate the state if able to do so.

Back in August you said:

"If we essentially swap Barrass for Baker we're at the bottom for the next decade. That's squad killing moves."

Now you seem OK with Barrass for Baker + steak knives.

What's changed?

Coming to terms with it happening, doing more research into the player and how he is viewed outside of my own bubble, seeing that potentially pick 24 is coming back with him.

First pick on night 2 of the draft could be sold for a kings ransom.

We can all have our own opinions on players and drafts but at the end of the day we get no say, I've long since gotten over getting worked up over trades and drafts.

I've had one recruiter tell me we should consider ourselves lucky that such a good player in Baker wants to play for us, going by a lot of opinions here we're mad to even be considering him.

Nothings ever going to be universally accepted unless it is H.Reid pick 1.
Putting aside opinions on the specifics of players and drafts, trading a contracted key position player for an uncontracted half forward is objectively bad.

Just because they are two separate deals that achieve this outcome doesn't change that.

I understand there's probably not an easy solution, but this is what the experts get paid for.

We shouldn't have made any promises to Baker without a caveat that we would only trade if we are getting fair value and ensure he was comfortable rolling the dice on the draft if that couldn't be achieved.

I think we just wait to see what the final trade is.

Baker and 24 for 14 good
Baker for 14 bad

I'm kind of hoping the Bolton, Rioli, Baker trade talks are just clubs taking the piss with Richmond, and that they all pull out of the deals leaving Richmond with no picks, and disgruntled players that took them to :checks notes: the wooden spoon :checks notes:

Pay back for the premierships and just generally being arseholes.

We have a Water Corp Eagles member here!
WA is so dry that the water from the dam is not sufficient to reach Victoria Park nor the Eagles Head Quarter.

The Rioli talk is amazing. There's a direct peer who is the same age, same contract length, same position, but a better player across the board, who is up for trade in Houston, and the disconnect on what people are talking about as their trade value is just amazing.
It's because Gold Coast simply don't value high draft picks the same way other clubs do, due to their academy.

How are Richmond able to demand #6 and #13 for Rioli and Collingwood #13 for Noble and we can’t do much better than #14 for Barrass?

What is wrong with our club, we are so weak. This is a reason why we are in the hole that we are in.
Maybe Worsfold can help.
Absolutely agree...

And this on top of leaving our defence with a massive hole with no cover(hedwards not at all proven)
