This is the part that confuses me. Once Nic Nat is done, there's no clear option for number 1 ruck at the Eagles, and you'd have to be brain dead to think recruiting English as number 1 ruck is a good idea. Bailey Williams is probably your next best option after Nic Nat, and while looking promising, he's nowhere near proven. Would make more sense for Freo to chase English since they have Darcy, they know Lobb wants out, and English is a straight upgrade on Lobb.

It's why we are almost certain to pick up Strnadica in the SSP (even with him sustaining an injury during his train-on period).

He's a genuine #1 ruckman, can go forward a little and is a reasonable height (203cm) for AFL.

Of course the big ? is can he improve enough to become a viable #1 ruck at the level - but I would say that risk is similar for English (no doubting English's natural talent is higher) and the price is very different.

Natural talent only gets you so far. If you don't like physical contact no way will you make it as an AFL ruck never mind as a tall forward. Not at AFL level.

And that is the massive question on English.

For what it's worth i think English will have a big year in 2022.

It's becoming increasingly clear that FWD/RCK suits him more than standalone Ruckman (as he's so bad at hitouts).

The FWD/RCK role on the other hand is quite valuable these days, and i think English could be very good at it. Particularly for a team like ours with an explosive ruckman who can't run out a game properly.

Which is a moot point as he'd have been a great partner for Nicnat to have, and yet by the time he joined the list i think Naitanui will borderline be retiring.

Other than the ruck stoppages themselves he's very handy around the ground. Links up, pushes into defense to help out with his contested marking.

Kicked 19 goals from 22 games this year as well. I'm not sure if it'd be possible to pair him and Williams together. Reckon they'd get monstered in taps.

You wouldn't offer our 1st for a 20 / 21 yr old McDonald?

Why not?

Don't know how good he looks, unless he looks to have generational talent I would say no. With Darling, Oscar, Williamsx2 on the list I think we need to start investing early picks in some quality mids and a future small forward. At the moment in our under 25 crew the only one I have any hopes on being an elite mid is Chesser. I have a fair bit of faith in Foley, Hedwards, Ledwards, Hough, Bazzo, Duggan, Rotham, Witherden being able to form a solid defensive team.

But have the feral bulldogs supporters started to abuse his missus on insta yet?

That's the true litmus test around here (a la TKelly).
English’s partner, Rudi Ellis, has signed a two-year deal with Super Netball team West Coast Fever and has recently bought property in Fremantle

So it may or may not mean Tim is doing anything

Yeah we saw with Treloar and his partner that playing netball interstate doesn't necessarily mean they will move there also

I think we would only be worth 1 first rounder but that’s just me

Marginal. Has potential but hasn't shown a lot so far.
Accepting the old 'big guys take longer... blah blah blah', there's still hope but he may be the next Brander. All potential but not hard at it. (And yes, Brander may blossom at GWS).

If we go hard at MacDonald or Naughton or Jackson or any other WA boy and are successful, there won't be any first rounders left in the cookie jar to give away.

I think the Dogs will ask too much and we'll (hopefully) offer no more than a second rounder.

I was referring to the part of your post re the club not wanting to trade out 1st round picks.

For the right player (like McDonald) at the right price I think we would.

Unless our first rounder is a top 5 pick the Swans would want more than our first pick, pick 8-12 won't get it done.

How much more on top would you be willing to add?

I suspect he'll end up up re-signing anyway, so discussion is probably arbitrary.

Tanner also an Eagles supporter growing up in Perth.

Reported though he is in the process of re-signing. If he ever was keen for a move we are in with a chance for Tanner.

And GWS seems to have more talented mids than I've had hot dinners there will always be one who looks elsewhere most years. And GWS just continue landing top 10 draft picks due to trades or using multiple picks to trade into the top 10.

Picking up McDonald and Bruhn would seriously fast track our rebuild. McDonald a JK replacement, Brahn a Shuey replacement. Both with two years under their belts at the end of 2022.

I'd be more than happy to trade current and future picks to land them both.

Then the only glaring list issue is replacing Nic in another year

"Tanner also an Eagles supporter growing up in Perth"

Doesn't matter who they support as long as WCE coaching staff don't screw up their career.....unnatural position....R.I.P. Brander

Please.enough brander talk.hes shite in his natural position so the club valued him enough to try to fit him in somewhere else. He got every opportunity then decided to leave. Very very poor scouting and drafting

Pick 8 isnt a dud pick so I would add a 3rd rounder.

Pick 12 Id add Ports 2nd rounder.

Take it or leave it. Not selling the farm for a 20 year old kid who wants to come home. (Assuming he nominated WA)

The kid has played 7 games so far. If he kicks 40 or 50 goals ala J Cameron in his 2nd season then his price will go up. If he plays another 7 games and struggles.....well his value doesnt go up......

Chum the waters of this tim English thing i have not followed at all? Or is it a cycle.
Is the weat reporting on bigfooty.com stories while we post the west stories for people eho subscribe to quote for us 😆

I’d give English the hardest of pass. Like DS said, he’s a good footballer but not a great forward. You just don’t fork out that much currency both salary and at the trade table for a bloke that a ruck/fwd.

All this English talk reminds me when Jason Johanassen was out of contract. Rumours spread that west coast was into him big time, then he signed for big dollars early in the season. Dogs overpayed for a crab that has been average since.

West Coast rarely leaks their intentions to the media so early in the piece. This screams of English's manager floating a rumour so the Dogs pay big money to keep his inconsistent client.
