Had another look at the 3rd qtr. It's clear to see that our defenders sat about a kick further back than they were setting themselves in the first half. That's all I thought needed to happen and it worked wonders. All of a sudden essendon were kicking to a wall of us instead of empty space to run into behind our defenders on fwd 50.

Let's just play like that normally.

I was at the '98 Preliminary final when the Dogs played the Crows. There was a young Crows supporter who was waving his flag & kept hitting an old Bulldogs supporter in front of him. My memory is a bit hazy but I think he might have warned him to stop. Anyway early in the last quarter the old guy had enough & grabbed the kids flag & threw it over the tier.

Dude - I said our first half was Neeld levels of bad and our list is strong (which it obviously wasn’t under Neeld). Not sure if you watched the first half but looked very much like the kick it along the boundary to a pack tactic we used in the Neeld years

Like I said - let’s revisit at round 18, or 23 or whenever you like

Having a different opinion with reasoning behind and expressing it on a forum is not lack of football knowledge - I think that’s why we are here

I loved it too. I’d be happy for us to play in that jumper every week. That was literally the only good aspect of the first half, our jumper.

Yes we played stagnant football, but still defended well. Under Neeld we were regularly 6 goals down at 1/4 time.

Was Sunday's first half good, hell no it was ugly but we stayed in the contest. Nothing we ever achieved under Neeld. So if you want to compare Sunday's first half to Neeld then my my opinion is that you don';t really understand football all that well.

I’m with Hansolo. The first half was Neeldesque in its dysfunction. Remember we were playing a bottom four side.

I respect other peoples opinions but from my point of view if you genuinely think that first quarter was neeld-esque you don't know much about footy. I will stand by that comment but won't argue my point any further.

Effort was there in the first half on the weekend. Players didn't play with any effort under Neeld.

Yep, he's not the worst defender in the world but for some reason we play him as third man up when Hibberd and Lever are so much better at it.

Let's start with ugly. The game itself was disgusting. The post ANZAC round always will be and the fact it will always be played under the roof amplifies it. It would be nice if we got a return match at the G at the end of the year one time. LOL! Haha! Yeah right Demons Advocate, you stooge!

Winning! Was starting to worry it wouldn't happen again. Feels nice.
Spargo. His post match interview was great. "Play hard for your team mates, play hard for your jumper." That's what his old man said to him at jumper presentation. That's all any player needs to know before a game.

BAD
Injuries. We can sit here and complain about the fact we played shit in the first half or we should have won by more but it was a scrappy match and we won by 6 goals and the position Melbourne is in that's all we need worry about right now. Bring on the Saints.

You’d hope it would be our home game given Essendon are hosting ANZAC Day and Richmond are hosting ANZAC Eve but given we’ve hosted the Bombers once in the last ten years I’m not getting my hopes up

Honestly thought one of the biggest turn arounds in the second half was the goal kicking. It had been rubbish since quarter time in the Hawks game, and although we were far from our best in that time, the wasted opportunities on goal really kill the team. When we were 2.6 on the weekend I had given up because I figured we would need 40 shots on goal to kick a winning score.
