Went to both games and simply can't agree with this.

ATG strikes again :tearsofjoy:

Agree to disagree.

I do agree with you that Collingwood and Geelong move the ball far better though, their counter attacks are awesome to watch.

If the Pies can play like that again the next two weeks I think they make the grand final and beat Sydney in Sydney.

Stop using the "if we didnt give away 50s" narrative, you and I dont know which way the game goes if we dont give them away, its far to0 simplistic to say it plays out the exact same way minus 3 goals to them.

Bulldogs and Freo aren't winning a flag this year.

Cats and Pies intensity was at a completely different level to our game vs the Swans. That is what grand final and premiership teams look like.

50s weren't even the biggest one - the Hickey goal on a slow play and some of their goals from our defensive lapses (the LLoyd one which was a floater off the boot, I was right behind it) were killers.

Sydney were the better team for sure. Their pressure was more consistent, they were cleaner and they took their chances. But the better team doesn't always win - and I don't think we were far off on review.

This isn't to say we shouldn't look to change our forward line, move the ball with more confidence or I think Goody is the greatest coach of all time.

Im never a believer in that, the game goes on a completely different course if you take away those 50s, far too simplistic.

The fact of the matter is we hold ourselves back with our inability to kill off opponents cause of our conservative offense.
We had multiple opportunities in the last quarter to keep ourselves in the game and bungled every single one. Melksham screwing up a couple of easy goals when there was time killed it.

Again, thats just a story we like to tell ourselves, who's to say Sydney dont pile on 4 in a row out of centre clearances if Melk kicks the first one. Its like a choose your own adventure book.

We controlled the game in the early part of the last and didn't convert. That's pretty irrefutable. In the end, their pressure broke us and despite having time left we never looked like coming back post Melksham/Spargo mess.

Been the same old story against quality opponents all year. Why should it be any different this time? Cause we want to believe?

I'm getting more pessimistic as the week goes on. After Swans game I thought we played well enough to be a chance of a few upsets these finals. But the fact of the matter is we're regressing while Pies, Cats, Swans are on the way up. That's the trend ever since probably the Saints win early this year.

We quite obviously should beat the Lions but you tend to get what you deserve in finals and I'm not sure our second half of the year justifies us making the top 4. Could all finish in a bit of a shambolic loss.

The board is going nuclear if we lose to Brisbane. And if we cant win the flag i kind of want to see it, take me back to the masochistic days under Neeld, nostalgia is awesome.

At $3.25 the Lions we'll find out. Making a small fortune betting against us the last 12 weeks.
Carlton the only miss

Pies only 11 point favs vs the Dockers is interesting given the demolition job they did on them over in Perth, but I suppose thats been the kind of margin they have won by for most of the year. Wouldnt surprise me if they come out a bit flat after that game vs the Cats and Dockers hung about for a while, fully expect the Pies to get up however.

Yeah Pies at the line definitely a bet. I really rate the Dockers but they need another year into Amiss to become a top 2 side. Pies should be winning that by a few goals, could also see them blowing the Dockers away.

Yeah if the year is a failure it might as well end with a horror performance than a predictable 2 goal loss in a prelim where we didn't take our chances.

It might be the ideal outcome.

Imagine the bonus ad revenue from increased traffic.

Mostly because Melksham’s shots were actually from reasonable angles tbh! Although knowing him you’d rather him snapping from the boundary the kicking 40m straight on. Same with Kozzy and even Brown. 4D Goody.

Might just be me, but I’d quite like to spend next week thinking about a prelim even if we end up losing to Geelong

To the Nick Grant Napalm thread!

I keep finding myself reaching for my negativity veil (it's so pretty). But geez, giving Brisbane their first win at the MCG since 2014, in a semi-final, resulting in us straight-set exiting, while forward-pocket kicking ourselves into oblivion would probably result in me wearing the veil for the next 6 months. We couldn't do that to ourselves, could we?

You'd think Brisbane would have figured out a couple of things to implement against us though given we've pantsed them twice this year already. The ol' fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times...

It's a final - we need to show up with the right attitude and respect irrespective of the opponent.

Yeah I have no idea what game people were watching if they're calling that close. Swans looked a level above us for the vast majority of the night.
Even when we were on top on the scoreboard early it felt like the Swans were cleaner and more composed, was only a matter of time until they ran away with the win.

Nah see I don't think we would have won if we hadn't given away the 50s. Swans were still the better side but at this point all we've got to hang on to is that were still in it and one of the 3 better sides could have an off night. We're close enough that we could take advantage of that
