Every year we see the same thing,

Great start and then they stop to a walk when the whips are cracking in August.

Forget the other stuff, considering this is the a $ 5 million dollar coaching box, when will Hird take responsibility and resign, or better still, when will The much maligned Essendon board have the guts to shoot bambi, for on field performance?

I compare the Essendon situation with that of richmond in 2003. Clinto Casey threw the keys to Greg Miller and he basically did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted and the club failed.

Essendon have done the same to Hird, the difference, they gave Hird a blank cheque and gave Hird absolute power to do a job, he has no experience in doing.

It may very well end the same way

hard to 'forget the other stuff' when it looks to be affecting their on field performance.

Hird really stuffed up by keeping so many plebs when he arrived. Nuts. Letting Houli walk/ failing to convince him to stay was also a shocking early sign.

Dyson, Prismall, McVeigh, Gumby, Neagle, Davey, Jetta, D Daniher, Quinn, Slatter (x2), Hille, Pears, Welsh.

They were spuds and/or finished when Hirdy turned up. But he kept them all. What's the bet that this offseason he even tries to keep Pears, Crameri, Dell'olio, Gumby (again!!), Kommer, Jetta, Davey.... He really has not learned.

Getting Matthew Egan as a forward coach was farcical. The results spoke loudly yesterday. Not marching Wallis another awful call.

But yes, blame Patrick Smith.

I am very happy with how the Hird era is turning out. Long may he reign.:D

Decent developing list which has been alternately spurred and overcome by off-field events. What's their true form? Nobody really knows, but it shapes as a nice gig for the new coach provided the players elude ASADA.

Half decent list but way too top heavy and lacking leg speed and goal kicking mids. Goddard was a very bad decision, he is just the wrong body shape for Essendons needs.

Dons need midfielders who can win the ball, not whingeing overpaid flankers. OK, they also need Hurley to be able to catch a ball and blokes who can hit a target.

Shane Tuck at $200k would have been a better buy for Essendon than Goddard. And this will probably be the best year of his career at the club. $750k a year until 2016 warrants a lot more.

I still don't understand why they drafted Kommer. He has some leg speed but besides that he is a very average footballer.
He's just a really, really, really terrible footballer.

Sorry, please forgive me. Gumby is about to come good. Any year now...

If Hird had done an apprenticeship somewhere other than Prahran, he might have spotted that.

He takes full responsibility, remember.
Aren't you still gifting games to hacks like Robin Nahas?

It's taken Hardwick 4 years to do what Hird did in 1.

fully responsible to take credit but no blame thanks, a bit like Greg Miller until Gary March sacked him.

And wasn't that a convincing finals foray...

Re Nahas, you mean the former rookie listed player with more than twice the career goals of your former #2 draft pick KPF who has been on your list now for 7 years?
Occasionally, yes.

Vickery. Pick 8

LOL:D

Pick 8 who keeps getting dropped, no doubt you'll trade him to Adelaide in 4 years when your club catches up to the rest of the comp and realises he just aint any good.

You mean the player who has been injured for a combined 5 years? Oh yes, people might misunderstand your statement when you don't clarify the player hasn't even been on the ground to compete with your player.

Simplistic view of a simple mind..
Sorry, is this thread not about failed rebuilds?

Our "rebuiled" has failed yet we're (hopefully) going to play finals 2 out of Hird's 3 years as coach. Hardwick's rebuild is only now, after 4 years, starting to net some positive results, but it has apparently been a successful one (which I wouldn't really disagree with).

Nahas has had nowhere near the amount of injuries that Gumbleton has had and you know that.

But please, continue to pick on the easy target.

Vickery's a good player. He keeps getting dropped because he keeps getting concussions.

Forward-line is talented but somewhat dysfunctional, Midfield goes alright, Defense is pretty nice and good Ruck stocks

They need Hurley/Daniher to come in next season and kick about 60. Kommer/Dell'olio one of them wont be there in the long term. They lack a good small forward, Crameri is ok as a medium tall but not as any sort of crummer. Monfies they reallly could use right now.

And also the whole drugs thing is a big kick, They've failed in august for like the 3rd year in a row.
