Autopsy Freo outclassed by the Crows

We’re low energy and reflects the low energy nature of the coach
Crows were bottom side a few years but appears a smart list rebuild over the past few years with pace on most lines , good forward line and a good head coach has worked well
They have now gone straight past us, not a fluke as they did us for pace and system in the first practice game this year
Looks like we in for another long rebuild/restump but we need some genuine footy nous at the top, from what i can see Bell and Jlo are not it
Only players to show any growth and improvement this year Swiita, Serong and Amiss, and Ras at Peel, something drastically wrong with our coaching panel because our kicking and hand skills are not even wafl level
Our game style seems to reflect Jlo approach , nice guy but no mongrel/hard ball gets or daring

Collingwood 2021 vibes. Just in the fact that they won a final the year before and then were absolute dogshit the following year despite having largely the same personnel that won that final. Except they made changes to their coaching and managament and look where they are now. We won't have the balls to do that.

He doesn't need to become a Fyfe. He's got a completely different skillset and it'd be stupid to try and shape him into an inside mid.

But given we have a glut of players that can play off the half-back flank, it's worthwhile seeing where some of their skills might be better used.
It’s not even inside mid, say we lose a Cox, Pearce to injury.
No Logue, list looks like boys against men. Do these guys even Gym?

I've spent all day helping family put the insulation bats in their walls of their whole new house and didn't see the game. I'm sore everywhere, my feet ache, I don't think I could rehydrate if I drank a whole bath and I think everyone here had a more exhausting experience today.

Might just skip watching that replay.

Where is that Easter chocolate bunny with 1978 Grange and Guiness soaked marshmallows, skittles and links to the best of ACDC and Pink Floyd?

I knew I left that thing around here somewhere and I so need a booze, music and chocolate binge now...

Acres and NOD complemented each other very well. Still for the life of me can't understand getting rid of Acres.
Our off-season is starting to look like a club killer.

Got rid of players we need, sold the farm for one we don't and left ourselves with 2 empty drafts.

Made little sense at the time and is now looking like a total mess.

Peter Bell is a club killer. Refusing to budge on Acres when it would've cost us so little in the scheme of things, not signing Logue early on. So smug with everything he does it pisses me off. Should've held his ground and refused to trade Lobb. At least Amiss could have been developing with a half competent KPF. And trading everything we had for Jackson and then again on JOM who hasn't been a good player since he left the gold coast.

Being a Freo supporter is one kick in the balls after another until you wished Bailey Banfield was dead.

What has occurred to me is I need to get some new hobbies. My reliance on Fremantle for happiness has just simply got to stop. Things that I put off just because Freo is playing will now become priority. You know it’s time when even my dog looks disgusted in me during the game.
That happened with me the last couple of years. It used to be sacred and not negotiable but now its all on fox you can start and stop things whenever you want so you don't have to miss anything.

Somehow I've found I don't care as much and in some ways I'm happier with it on in the background or slightly delayed.

Yes.

I think Premierships are built in the off season. You really need to get everything right off-field to be a top team.

I also think the rebuild started pretty well. Logue, Darcy, Cox, Ryan, McCarthy, Hamling, Brayshaw, Cerra, Switta, Schultz, Freddy, Banfield, Wilson, Hogan, Lobb, Young, Serong, Acres and Aish is a really good group.

Just needed to add them to Fyfe, Mundy, Neale, Pearce, Langdon and Walters and it's a bloody good team.

Probably a Premiership in that lot.

Man, watching neutral games is just depressing now.

All the other teams do this weird thing where they have space in their forward line and they kick the ball in front of someone who is actually moving so they can mark it on the lead. Can't relate....

I’m not sure Fremantle know how to football.

Midfield nowhere near it all day, Tabs has hands of pure concrete, Henry must need glasses such was his ability to pick out the opposition and the defender's decision making was like the sloth from Zootopia.

Always next year.

I didn't play the sport growing up (Cricket and Rugby) and 20 years of watching hasn't significantly helped my technical proficiency.

The vast majority of supporters who rock up to Optus each fortnight (at least 25k-30k) are like me and they'll start not turning up if they don't see changes - it was the lack of personnel changes that turned most people off RTB more than the continual losses from 2016-2019.

I don't know the ins and outs but like others there's a focus on what's changed since last year:
  • Losing Josh Carr as midfield coach appears to have hurt the team more than we thought - losing Chris Scott in 2010 and Brett Kirk in 2015 had an immediate net negative affect in the guts of the ground. Unsure what Joel Corey's midfield strategy is but it's not working.
  • Losing Mundy, Lobb, Logue and Acres has hurt immensely. Posters allude to this often - the reality is we're probably down 5-6 goals each game without them. Lobb was worth 2-3, Logue saved a couple and Mundy set up a couple too. Even so, with all of them still on the list we still probably lose today, against the Saints and maybe beat North - overall we'd still be collectively unimpressed with the start to the year. We are heavily missing Mundy's midfield leadership though.
  • JL + staff - increasingly conservative with selection and game plan. In hindsight, Luke Jackson was a conservative bet compared to backing in your team and hitting the draft and giving pay-rises to important players like Logue and Acres.
Posters here are saying A Pearce isn't a Captain's A-hole - wasn't he the captain for the majority of last year when Fyfe was injured? He's down on confidence but he's not the problem. I doubt any coaches are leaving mid-season so it looks like this is what we're stuck with this year - we've given up future picks for next year but I do think we have enough to potential talent to start building over the next two seasons. We aren't playing finals this year and even if we do we're making up the numbers - therefore what I'd propose at a minimum is:

  1. Erasmus and Johnson to be given the same treatment Brayshaw and Cerra were given - and that is to play every game possible.
  2. Sturt to be given a serious-go now - he's a player who won't continue to improve in Peel and will benefit from strong AFL exposure.
  3. Treacy to be given a run of games after a few more in WAFL - some clear deficiencies to work on but he may get there.
  4. Corbett, Wagner and/or Worner to get a run.
  5. Hamling to come into defence to provide some much needed leadership.

Some moron on Reddit is trying to claim that Luke Ryan was BOG because of his stat line. I seriously wonder if our supporter base can get any stupider sometimes.

This is starting to have real 2011 Mark Harvey vibes about it. Harves took a young struggling team (dare I mention 2009 vs Adelaide) to an unexpected finals journey in 2010, but was worked out in 2011 and had no plan b.

The upside is the club recognised the shortcomings in the football dept and made the necessary changes. Will history repeat?
