Disagree - little subtlety or cunning to his game.

Once.
Enright carved up Rioli for the entirety of their respective careers.

Tom Stewart is definitely entitled to one bad game, and I did say that he hadn't played a game that poor in two years.
Charlie Cameron baited him with a cheap, disrepectful wack to the noggin. But Stewart was already playing poorly before that incident.

My point though is you have always underrated Corey Enright; a defender who shut down his opponent and got every bit as much of the ball as Stewart. In big games. For years.

Stewart plays loose in defense and generally does it very very well - but teams will start putting more time into him; hopefully he responds strongly.
Yep it was once. Hale kicked a massive bag on Scarlett once. Not the only one either.

you don’t change a view on a player after one outlier game in 2 years. If it happens more times then we reconsider.

Why? I remember we lost one h&a game in all of 2008, we lost it by 86 points against Collingwood at the MCG on a Friday night. After the first 10 minutes I knew we weren't winning, you just have those games sometimes, you just hope not too often. We were as flat as pancakes tonight.

Before the Port game, we had lost first up after an in season bye, every year since about 2013. Every year since 2008, up until a couple of years ago, we were always flat and vulnerable the week following a Hawthorn game, we used to really set ourselves for them.

sh*t happens.
I'm not saying we are going to capitulate and lose every game but if our ambitions are to win the premiership we can't accept that type of performance. We lost against Richmond in the grand final when the pressure went up and we started playing defensive (safe) football. This team simply struggles when teams get in our faces and don't give us space - its been a halmark of Scott and the reason we haven't won a premiership with our list. We are missing the 'it' factor.

you just told me half an hour ago that “ you could see this coming” because we won a match against second placed on the ladder and our sixth game in a row. I wrote lol because you literally made me laugh writing that.

you look at the things they do, make some adjustments, dissect it and move. We played a poor game of footy, they came out like it was a grand final.

will back us to top them if we come to play.
Our issues are deeper than a 'poor game of football'. We are missing a key ingredient my friend - the ability to deal with pressure. Richmond rolled us in the grand final for the same reasons - when things get hot we panic and fold. Until thats fixed this team won't win a premiership.

That's not true either.

TBH I think many posters are blowing this out of proportion. We aint 2009 Geelong. We are gonna lose games, especially against good teams away from home. We got torn apart in the first quarter through a combination of us being asleep at the wheel and the Lions playing brilliantly. After that the game was pretty balanced for the next two quarters before we lost it totally in the last 30 mins taking risks trying to peg the lead back.

Its easy to point at the recent perennial whipping boys but the issue is we were generally down across the field and Brisbane played well the entire game and to their credit never really gave us a chance once they had jumped us. Brisbane did a great job of setting up their D against our normal attack lanes, only conceding four scoring shots combined to JC/Hawk/Rohan is impressive.

The area that hurt us all night was half forward- the only cat who was delivering with any quality was Smith, and the Lions seemed to waltz it back out again with high velocity all night long. Duncan out really hurts, Him and Hawk are by far the best at setting up shots at goal, and there is only one Hawk. JC's intent is good(nearly always gets it forwards quick) but he lacks the long distance accurate field kicking of Hawk. Dunno how we fix it, Miers is good at the sticks but kicks hospital balls on the field, Clarke has the skills but probably too inexperienced to be designated lead distributor into attack, I think Sam Simpson has the game to do it well, but no chance of that happening. Narkle lacks polish.... Its legit annoying. It's exactly what Higgins was hoped to bring.

We copped some horrendous umpiring calls early in the match and ultimately couldn't make any inroads on that first quarter deficit. Players were clearly frustrated and second guessing themselves. Some were even quite confused like Menegola with his quick snap for goal ... to the opposition. WTF.

Stanley must really be on the nose if he can't get a game. Sav is simply a liability. At almost 50 games he's not showing much in the way of development and really has no right to be playing in the AFL given his output this year.

Seemed to be quite a few players placed in unfamiliar roles tonight and there was a collective lack of fluency and cohesion. For some reason Scott has a tendency to do this in the back half of seasons and it never ends well. Hopefully we return to the basics next week and get back our mojo quickly.

Very poor performance tonight by the boys. Uncharacteristic perfromance. Fumbled all night, wrong decisions all night, just couldn't handle Brisbane's pressure. Credit to them - they wanted it far more than we did and it showed.

Just about everyone lowered their colours tonight. I thought Tuohy and Smith tried hard but the rest lowered their colours IMO. Selwood very quiet, Stewart outplayed (not entirely his fault IMO - terrible decision to play him on Cameron - coaches need to put their hand up with this one), Guthrie despite 32 I thought was pretty ineffective and made some bad errors, I could go on but wont. A lot of handling errors with the ball tonight, bad decisions all night, kicking long to that blonk McInerney in the forward line all night. I don't blame the forwards even though they were quiet - I though we played into their hands by bombing it in a lot and not lowering the eyes. Credit again to Brisbane for forcing us to play the way they wanted. Scott outcoached and they wanted it real bad - was their GF in that they owed us one/many and wanted it just way more than we did.

I didn't think Higgins was as bad as people are suggesting, I think there were a lot worse than him.

For mine, I'd be dropping Rata and Dahl. Rata is still young but he's just not there yet IMO and Dahl needs a spell - just doesn't give us enough. For me I think we have to bring in Stanley and Miers for Rat and Dahl. I think the rest have enough credits in the bank and it should be just put down to a bad game.

It's been a tough month and we were due a down game, hopefully it's just the 1 bad week - was horrible to watch but I am hoping we learn from it and bounce back hard next week.

One last thing - I really think the club should put some footage together of what Tommy cops every week with no reward from the umps yet Daniher gets a fingernail on him and gets a free. Just because Hawkins is strong and doesn't stage like Joe Louganis Daniher doesn't mean he shouldn't get a free kick here and there. I'm sick of seeing him get mauled week after week for nada whilst the oppostion forwards seem to get looked after time after time.

Didn't watch the game last week I guess?

We played like shit - to be fair both teams did. It was a coin toss and could have gone either way. It was also on our home ground where we obviously have a clear advantage. Last weeks form accurately reflected tonights performance away from home against a good young side with some fire in their bellies.

Bad game and mainly... I think we press the reset button. Too much that was poor.

Higgins is not impressing me. GA jr with a bung should er in the GF did more than him. Does he ever bodyline the ball. Does he back himself with he reputed kicking skills.

Our strength is our weakness. Too much reliance on the big 3 forwrds. Our mids do not kick enough goals.

Brisbane came in with the plan to get back and flood the those forward targets.

The midfield look like they all were sore from last week.

In the end when you have a game like that nothing looks any good. Almost too many things looks in need of attention.

Tonight we played like an old team , and not in a good way.

The positive is that an exposed weakness is something that you can learn from. Trouble is its somnthing other can learn from as well.

Geez only just saw the Daniher free. Wasnt even pushed a little bit, Hendo just put a hand out to touch. Thought everyone here was overreacting but geez that was bad. If he isn't sanctioned then I assume it's not a "thing" any more.

Punishment probably now is he may struggle to get frees all year. Defenders will be able to push him.

Daniher has taken up soccer.

Well the lads certainly managed to throw my theory on how to be competitive in this game out the window. We won the contested ball comfortably on the night (which I always see as a key barometer) and still got absolutely slaughtered everywhere but on the scoreboard. How we avoided a 12-goal loss there, I will never know.

Absolutely deplorable spread away from the contest by our mids once the Lions had the ball left our defenders with almost no chance against their multi-faceted forward line. Whereas we couldn't bring the ball into F50 cleanly all night due to the Paddle Pops' excellent pressure on the ball carrier throughout the game. They absolutely hunted us when we had the footy and many, many times we utterly crumbled under the heat. Reminiscent of some of the appalling finals losses of past seasons (complete with another goalless first quarter) of yesteryear.

Bomber used to talk about us being 'easy to play against' when he was frustrated with our lack of respect for the opposition. And that's exactly what appeared to happen tonight. Once we turned it over, there was minimal will to win it back. While the Brions just contested and contested every single possession we had. So much for being gassed off a 5-day break.

Anyway, I'm not devastated by the loss. But the magnitude and nature of it were both quite disturbing. Gave up valuable percentage and can no longer afford to drop any games against the lesser teams in the run-in. And that now starts with the Bombers. Still, if we're going to bring that sort of 'intensity' again when the Dons are breaking into space next weekend, we will be in enormous trouble in that game as well.

Need to see some steel at the selection table as well, with Rata and Higgins simply demanding to go out after tonight. Rata in not even close to meriting his spot, and Higgins is either cooked or playing while underdone. Either way, he is shirking contests, fumbling the balls he does win, and clearly not handling the heightened pressure around the ball. Close and Dahl really struggled as well but might hold on in the absence of other fit and 'in form' options for their roles.

The whole forward line looked abysmal for the entire night, of course. But so much of that was on the pressured ball as it came in. The scribes will wax on about the brilliant job done by the Brisbane defenders. But the ball was genuinely kicked to their advantage far more often than it was towards a Cats forward throughout the night. It was like a compendium on 'How not to bring the ball into F50' for the entire game.

Better see a response next weekend or the season could get away from us very quickly.

Can you see why I'm not a Chris Scott fan.... him getting games like Higgins, I don't understand it... he has favourites and just keeps playing them...
We just came off 6 wins in a row against some pretty good teams. Travel to Brisbane, flat, probably still recovering from that brutal game against Dogs, and we are back to CS criticism. This place is so fickle.

we Have handled the heat extremely well this year actually, port brought it, bulldogs brought it, saints too, yet we won. Been probably the best team in the comp the last 6 or so weeks, tonight just an abnormality.

remember, we made a GF because we could handle the heat, not the other way around. You don’t make it to A GF if you can’t handle big occasions. You simply don’t get there in the first place. Our only problem was we ran into a champion dynasty triple premiership side in Richmond.

Hale did and Lloyd toweled him up a couple of times early on in his career but you have to factor in the team at which time Scarlett debuted. We were shit, lol, seriously, we were babies and he was thrown into the deep end when the game was still at it's peak for full forwards.

Tom Stewart has walked into an elite team full of veterans with pretty decent backs in Lonergan, Mackie, Taylor and Tuohy to cover for his development.
