Missed the game but sh*t happens. Last week was brutal, I'd say the Dogs will lose too.
Can't win every week.
Yep pretty much. As long as these games are rare then you just move on.

in saying that some weaknesses Of recent weeks that have been papered over became much bigger tonight.

sav in the ruck is just comical now. He is actually getting worse and is offering nothing around the ground anymore. I’m not even sure if he took a mark tonight.

our small fowards all have the same problem. None of them have Goal kicking nous.

I've been on the *ratsnotready team with you for some time, but add those stats to his previous figures and even the most forgiving and ardent fan will have to jump off the Sav wagon. No matter what his role is, he is far too lumbering and slow to be effective anywhere, as his clangers show.
He's shocking at ground level and for a player of his size, not one mark,nada- that's an unfortunate liability.

For a guy who's apparent strength is his marking, we definitely aren't seeing that from Ratugolea this year

0 marks against Brisbane & Collingwood
1 mark against each Bulldogs & Suns

So while he's averaging 2 marks per game this season, that's based on the efforts of 3 games because in his other 4 games he's taken a total of 2 marks

O'Conner is decent. Bit harsh on Blitz too IMO. Blitz's disposal is solid- its his decision making that goes **** up now and again

The flags make us forget all their mistakes.

one season Enright infuriated me as every week he would do a shocking turnover.

we would not remember milburn so fondly if we lost the 2009 grand final.

scarlett also had his brain fades.

I remember all the mistakes way before the grand finals.
Go back to the 04 & 05 final series. Mistakes aplenty but they seemed to learn from those mistakes and like the whole team, went up a level I haven't seen again in footy.
Stewart's a deadset gun. Our best defender these days but what he is doing this year is what he has to maintain for at least 5 more years. No doubt he can.

Lol- keep your shirt on! Richmond were just better than us. Like they were better than every other team.
Pretty sure we have won several games this year when teams were ‘in our faces’.
We are going along ok, we will be thereabouts in September.
Unfortunately thereabouts doesn't cut it.

Yep, I posted in the game thread that Scott has said on a number of occasions that a fit Sav is in our best 22, he's just not sure where. I'm sure it's not in the ruck and if that's the case there is nowhere for him with Hawk and Cameron up forward.

Ratugolea out, Stanley in.

Higgins out, Miers in.

That's it for now
Miers isn't ready

Hale did and Lloyd toweled him up a couple of times early on in his career but you have to factor in the team at which time Scarlett debuted. We were sh*t, lol, seriously, we were babies and he was thrown into the deep end when the game was still at it's peak for full forwards.

Tom Stewart has walked into an elite team full of veterans with pretty decent backs in Lonergan, Mackie, Taylor and Tuohy to cover for his development.
We are not still having this Stewart is greatest defender of all time stuff are we?? He clearly isn’t ahead of Scarlett enright.

Smith and menegola can’t go in great given they shank it to much. When they don’t shank it their kicks can be excellent and a Weapon but they both have high shank ratios.

touhy is also a great kick though. We have only 4 great kicks.

duncan, hawkins, touhy and Stewart.

A couple of things I'd like to see the coaches implement.

Parfitt - kick 15-20m only at all times or handball.
Danger - play him in the middle - forward line is good enough and his kicking for goal really hurts us. If he must be played up forward, make sure someone is there for the handball - every time. Just cannot rely on his kicking unfortunately. Contested ball beast - lets use his strengths to advantage. He is a great mark but shouldn't be having multiple shots for goal IMO.
No bombing long into the forward line unless absolutely necessary. Brisbane just sent a tall or 2 back there and we couldn't jag a mark. We have 3 leading forwards - lead to different places and give our mids a chance to hit one. If Hawk is one out he will just about beat anyone every time - just too hard when he has 3 on him every time.

Such a hard player to rate imo - always looks to be going at half-pace, and has a kind of arrogance about his kicking ... I kind of back him in to minimize his deficiencies and make the most of his skillset, but there are weeks when he just seems to be cruising along. Just has the one gear.

The best things about Menegola are his unashamed goal hungriness and I do like to see him plucking overhead marks on the wing with a player on his hammer.

I like that too, but then holding my breath on his next disposal is bad for the BP. OBF anyone?
We always laugh (hungers!) when he is in possession anywhere near 50, we just know he's shooting.
Often it's after he does the 'ol Stevie J, let's pretend I'm looking for a lead but every intention of biffing it.
Having said that, we heartily approve when he gets it.
He's an each way bet for mine.

Stewart's a deadset gun. Our best defender these days but what he is doing this year is what he has to maintain for at least 5 more years. No doubt he can but the team around him will start to fall away and he will start getting exposed more and more.

Darren Milburn going inboard against North in the 1997 QF during his very first season - horrible horrible moment for the then kid.
I don't think I ever saw him do that again, not once.
Seeds not wrong to raise the '09 GF though, Milburn mouthed off to the umps once too often that day (they hated him, I kid you not more than any other player - regularly got his head ripped off to no whistle) - lucky it didn't cost us.

One of the best players in a 1-on-1 contest that Ive seen.

In close traffic and under pressure you have to include Guthrie. I am not sold on Tuohy when he is faced with pressure. He is prone to bombing it down the field.
Stewart works his way through trouble.

Smith is terrific at receiving and making the right choices by foot. As too Selwood. Always makes the right decisions.

That's enough for any one team. If only Dangerfield had the footy IQ of a Bontempelli, he would be the no.1 player in the game.

A Positive Spin

We made enough clangers to last the rest of the season
The slow game style saved the players energy for next week.
The players won't be sucked into off-ball BS as easily.
Kolo's clanger rate was finally on par with the rest of the team.
Esava's ruck-work was only slightly worse than usual
The goals were shared amongst the forwards, midfield and defenders
Danger improved his kicking as the game went on.
Some players looked slow and tired and will be managed next week
Narkle, Miers and Stanley will likely get a chance to impress again
We conned the Lions to believe they are better so they will be complacent next time.
We have learned what not to do against the Lions.
The debt to Karma for stealing the game last week has now been repaid in full.
The players will work harder to atone next week
It was a very convincing defeat not a heart breaking, frustrating close loss
Coach will take more attention to player motivation in future.
We made the race for Top 4 interesting again
The Cats will get a bigger share of media attention
Better a kick in the ass now than later in the finals
Cat fans will have more free time this week by not watching the replay

Sav in the team is just comical now.

FIFY. He is nowhere near deserving a spot in any role for the seniors.

The ability to positively impact the game is clearly not there at the moment. And the confidence is shot as well. It's actually become unkind of the MC to keep up the pretence that he is worthy of inclusion. He must know himself how far away he is from truly meriting his selection at the moment.

Shiteful display, I thought we would lose but the lack of effort was disturbing.

Yep. Losing is one thing. That's fine as Lions are a quality side but panicking and going down like a pitiful bag of shit is no where near good enough for a side with this experience. A shameful lack of composure was shown but players supposed to be our leaders.

Yep. It’s doing him damage. I said this would happen 5 weeks ago. Its even worse then I thought.

not only can’t he ruck his marking is the worst it’s been in his entire career. It’s almost non existent now. He needs to go back to vfl and just play key foward and no where else.

Smith makes great decisions. He just shanks it a lot. Has been better in recent weeks. His first 6 weeks he was close to thevworst in the side.
