How's DeGoeys ownership this year?
LOL ....below bad ....Clubs have identified De Goey is the go to man, transitioning out of DEF .....and they're putting a lot of work into nullifying him

Crouch had the most disposals in last nights game, Laird fifth highest.
They're getting plenty of it, we need to back them in!

Laird 24D 11K 13HB 6Tkl 3Clr 300 MG 69%TOG
Crouch 30D 10K 20HB 5T 5Cl 107MG 67% TOG
Soligo 27D 10K 17HB 8T 6Cl 339MG 83% TOG

Petracca 29D 15K 14HB 5T 8Cl 487MG 81%TOG

Is the time on ground stat correct on the AFL site?
The only players with less TOG for the game than Crouch were Cook, Burgess & the two subs, Laird just above Crouch.

Ignoring the predictable rubbish display as a team...

Gee it was refreshing watching Soligo through the middle. Being so accustomed to a one paced plodding midfield of Laird, Crouch, Sloane for years, watching some with pace, dare, dash and skill was sensational. Something we are crazy deficient in and need more of. Feels like an age since we have had any of that.

Boggles the mind he started round 1 as sub as he and Rankine are our only matchwinners.

Both need to start in the middle (along with Rachele) every week.

Laird either needs to be dropped or take Parnell's position in the back pocket. A genuine momentum sapper in the middle.

McHenry - never again
Parnell - never again
O'Brien - Cannot catch a cold, he was steamrolled by Gawn
Jones - Move to a back pocket or dropped. Offers little on the wing
Keays- Too many deficiencies. We are never surprised when he burns the ball or misses easy shots on goal
Burgess - Not AFL standard
Hinge - Shocking

When you look through that list above it is not surprising we are losing. Objectively a pretty ordinary list of players.

Dowling and Curtin MUST come in.

Cook and Nankervis must play the rest of the season.

It's so obvious yet the coaches cannot see it.

Concerning.

Well I came, I saw, I am not nearly as disappointed as I thought I would be.

The sort of good: we won two quarters (first and last). Kick straighter in that first quarter and who knows? I thought Soligo was brilliant and Keane had the game of his life. Dawson and Tex had better games.

What was it with the umpiring? They may not have got many but I swear everyone they did get lead to a shot on goal. And the ones they missed for us!!! (Racheles run down holding the ball tackle).

We are devoid of confidence but there are glimpses and passages of play that tell me we aren’t that far away.

So, disappointing we didn’t get a win but completely surprised that it wasn’t the shellacking we all thought it would be.

The thing that’s really worrying/concerning me a lot more than the first 3 rounds is that last night I actually don’t think the team was that far off of producing the absolute best they can produce and it still looked so far away from resembling anything that really troubled that Melbourne team.

They executed most of things they want under this beleaguered 2024 Nicks system, I know a lot of people laughed when he said their structure worked well but it actually pretty much did. A lot of their stats finally started to resemble a more modern 2024 game plan; they dominated uncontested ball (which they were murdered in against GC & Freo), took more marks, held their width across the ground the best they have in a very long time, stopped Melbourne from even looking like getting a goal for chunks of the game and pretty much broke even everywhere else, however putting aside the continuation of the the specific 2024 problems (forward 50 efficiency, ball movement) it was unfortunately old problems that cost them yet again; smashed at stoppage clearances & applied little pressure/tackling/lockdown in the forward half especially when compared to the opposition.

Continue to shoot themselves in the foot and wonder why they’re bleeding.

isn't the definition of an honourable loss being you had a chance of winning it. I argue this has not been the case at all. Scorelines not of our own making contributed to some of our closer results.
I think given it is such a horse-shit nothingburger of a line, I've resorted to re-defining it as any margin that allows a failing coach like Nicks to bullshit the media during press conferences with a "Well, if you look at the margin, we were in the game right up to the end".

I think late in the 3rd quarter when the game was being lost, Ch7 cut to Nicks and Burns looking seriously at a laptop screen.
Nicks:
"See, those little vertical lines are like bats that you move up and down on the sides, to "hit" that little circle from side to side. It's called PONG".
Burns:
"Wow! I might be able to use that strategy with our forwards".:rolleyes: :drunk::drunk:
He was ..............didnt you see it hit lever or may and bounce back out of our forward line

We won the centre clearances 12-7.

How Parnell & McHenry spent more time on the ground than Laird & Crouch is mind boggling to me.
Why do previous all Australians sit it out for these types? If Crouch and Laird want to be on the ground get them out there!

Who could have predicted that Laird and Crouch would combine for double Petracca's possessions but only have 80% of his meters gained.

Nano looks good.. real good. Looks like he has loads of time out there with the ball.. he hasn’t even played 5 games.

It’ll take a couple more years to build his body but he’s going to make a pretty damn good wingman for us.
Should be up to 20 games by now. Was ready all last year. And clearly has talent to burn.

Someone made a comment that Nicks prefers good hard triers.

Players like Cook and Nank would have already flourished under a better coach.

Every draftee taken before Dan Curtin in last year's draft(7 players) has already played at least 1 senior game. If you have natural talent & are thrown in off the deep end you'll most often ultimately succeed. Gangly giants are the obvious exception, but not always - Hardwick is giving Ethan Read(202cm) his first game this weekend!!!
Curtin has shown himself to be a big game player, both in WAFL, Colts & U18 Championships, Charlie Edwards has great midfield speed(we are crying out for that) & Oscar Ryan has real speed out of defence - & he is tough!!! Also, try Billy Dowling instead of again & again rotating the same group of vanilla players in the vain hope that one of them will surprise us.
Nah, Curtin “needs time in the SANFL to work on a few things” will be Nicks retort

I don’t have a problem doing this with players not using Curtin as the example, but it depends on his mind set, is he a confident player that will go into his shell if loosing a couple of contests or find a way to get back in the game, now having said that I’d be Playing Curtin now and work with him to not get exposed early, and give him plenty of sugar , but it’s to know the player first

What if Melbourne had kicked straight?

ROB couldn’t catch Covid in Wuhan. But we should send him there just to be sure.
