As an example of the atrocious umpiring bias, I recall an incident in the second or third quarter when a Crows player tackled a Collingwood player and it was a ball-up, and mere seconds later a Collingwood player tackled one of ours in identical circumstances and it was paid holding the ball. It's extremely inconsistent, yet predictable - the home side gets the frees, especially when it's Victorian but not when the home side is us.
No frees in last 90 seconds

1. Marking contest. Look at markov arm

2. Markov takes us on. No holding ball. Players knew look at pies reaction
3. Dawson hit high

Roll the whole game and see where comm called and umpires didn’t

Daicos gets thst 50 squeals

Comms say 8-10 wouldn’t be paid. I would say 100

Free kicks 21-12. 7-5 in last

Umpires aside, mixed feelings about this game.

Started well, apart from kicking goals.

From the 15 minute mark to half time some of the worst Footy we have played all year.

Third quarter our best quarter of the year.

Last quarter, a genuine arm wrestle. We took it to them, and should have won.

Dawson was massive.

Tex changed the game once he made Moore accountable.

Hinge was good in key moments.

My big negative is Murphy. This game was a Finals like intensity in the second half. He didn't register a stat in the second half. Had 74% ToG.

Games like today you find out who is good enough in the big games. He ain't it.

I also fear about Rankine in key moments.

The start killed us.

Some great signs. But we need to maintain our good Footy for longer.

Hopefully that comes as the guys mature.

Naturally we are going to find out about a few players over the next 12-18 months.
If we can continue to nail the draft and add quality free agents and/or trades players like Murphy, Keays, Smith and Sloane should be overtaken.
Then consistent wins should come.

Big ticket Rankine needs to get up the field and get more involved. Hanging back when entries are shallow keeps him out. Especially when Noble and Quaynor are influential. Also the Fog should get up ground as well.

That was a great win imo. Just because the umpires cheated us doesn't change who was the better team. We now must beat Essendon and if we play like today we will beat them by 6goals.

Good
Laird awesome. Tried his guts out.
Dawson best on ground. 3votes.
Walker. Very good 2nd half.
Hinge very good. Really improving. Will be elite within another 40 games.
Worrell. Our best defender. Should have another 30games under his belt. Better than Doedee.
ROB. Was good. Well done.
Max. Great game.
Butts. Really improving his attacking play.

Bad
Rankine. Expected more than a few flashes of brilliance every now and then. We overpayed.
Murphy. Wil be out when our depth improves.
Sholl. Weak. Out thanks. Trade end of the year while his value is ok.
Sloane. Time to retire end of year.
Keays. Tries hard but no genuine quality. Out when depth improves in the offseason.
Smith. Was average for a leader.
Milera. Shits the bed when put under pressure. Freezes and gets caught with the ball a lot.

Disgusting
Umpires. Obviously had money on the pies.
Huddo. Can't stand that Geelong muppet.

Missed opportunity by Ben Keays to put on Cox's glasses when he took them and gain his powers.

My point exactly - the rub of the green is heavily against us away, but not at home. It's crap.
Clearly the solution is to screw us at home as well.

Jokes aside, it was a groundhog day game against the Pies. We play well for about half the game to get us into a winning position, but miss some gettable shots to give us the gap you need against them, because they are 100% going to find a way to jag a couple of goals late in the game whether umpire-assisted or not. They almost pinched the game against Melbourne when they had absolutely no right to be that close by the end. If you don't have enough of a buffer you're going to be in trouble.

Mitch Hinge was massive and is a huge key to our ball movement. Having Mitch Hinge and Redman working in tandem attacking off half-back could be incredibly sexy to watch.

Welsh is speculative and still 5 years away from being a potential factor. Fog and Thilly must go to another level within the next 13 months.
At this rate there's no reason why Tex can't play on into 2025.
And if Fogarty and Thilthorpe continue to improve he won't need to be at 2023 level.
With a better side any drop off in agility might not be that catastrophic.

Couldn’t be more prouder of the side today.

I expected to lose by 5-6 goals today, and at half time, that looked conservative.

The fightback in the third quarter was outstanding, and to keep fighting right to the end was fantastic.

Sure, we fell short by 2 points, but plenty of positives to take out of today.

Missed opportunities in the first quarter and a poor second cost us the game not the umps although soft frees don’t help

"Crows can't win away"

Hmmmm I wonder why
Because we are inexperienced in finishing against a top four side we’ve lost two games by a total of three points. You’re suggesting otherwise?

Half felt like the early 90s except for that 3rd quarter.
