Looking over our 14 wins and 5 losses it's not hard to understand why clubs generally prioritise midfielders in the 1st and early 2nd round of the draft.

When our midfield is dominating, our defenders and forwards also do really well, some like Alir even dominate and we win.

When our midfield gets beaten then so do the defenders and forwards and we lose.

We won't offer Esava the big bucks, that'll be reserved for the midfielders. If our midfield dominate then Esava will do well but if the midfield turns to puss then Esava will get flogged. Geelong will have to accept a late 2nd round pick at best or send him to draft like we did Nick Stevens.

Isn't he a full free agent? Can just leave.

Chasing Esava feels a lot like chasing Orazio.

are you suggesting it will be easy to get Esava, as chasing a a broken down Fantasia is like chasing down Stephen Hawkings?

No way is Orazio catching Stephen - that chair's acceleration from 0 to a blistering 8mph will warp spacetime in his hammy. Old Jimmy Toumpas would have a better shot.

The wheelchair, made in Sweden and capable of travelling 20 miles at 8mph on one charge, combined technology from around the world

Out - Scott Lycett (The Haven Retirement Village), Sam Hayes (Winny Blues or Escort House), Brynn Teakle (ALFW)
In - A readymade ruck like Jordon Sweet or Hipster Doofus Brodie Grundy, Taylor Goad, Vigo Visentini.

There are 4 highly touted rucks in the Top 20, if one of those falls to our first pick, we have to seriously look at them.
I don't think there is huge needs for rucks around the league at the moment.

Goad might keep climbing and climbing.

I don't want Grundy but he doesn't seem that bad of a bloke.

Possible Rucks 2024 - Sweet, Dante, Goad, Vigo.

Matthew Lobbe can head back to Kingston.
I still wouldn’t be against Will Elliott as a Rookie either.

Bring in 4 blokes 200cms+ in one summer, could you imagine?

Yeah, I mean our ruck stocks are shockingly bad so I could imagine it.

It is the easiest position to get late in the draft and even the rookie draft.

Essentially, I want a readymade ruck and a young buck who can develop.
Another developing ruck would be good too.

Up until the bye, our overall play similarly followed how good our rucks were.
When our rucks were up and running which was rare, we looked super good.
When we broke even, we looked pretty good.
When our rucks have been down, the other team really grew an extra leg and killed us.

21yr old proven kf coming back from acl >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
25 year old Player who has failed as a kf and been moved back

I wouldn’t trade Mitch for 3 esavas.

A 21yr old kf even coming back from an acl is worth infinitely more times than a failed kf who is still developing as a key defender at 25.

And it was all about Lycett, and that is why we have offered him another year.
Where he will be a good back up for hopefully our new ruckman (next year) whoever he may be.

You're not wrong, this board has Georgi rated too highly as one of our own.
The kicking woes and ACL have tanked his value.

An ACL will bring it down slightly, but kicking woes? Carn. He's far from alone in that respect.
Georgiades will have a very good career. I'm very confident of that.

Georgiades is far from 'proven' at this point. He sucked last year, he sucked before he got injured this year, and now he's coming back from an injury that is going to affect his athleticism which is his greatest strength as a player.

I hope we sign him, because I think signing him and hoping he can get back to his best is a higher percentage play than cashing out at this point, but I'm realistic about what to expect for him if we don't. If Mitch had his exact same career at another club and then wanted to move to Port while uncontracted, you'd be filthy if we gave up more than a pick around 25 for him and you know it.

Hi didn't 'suck' before his injury this year. There is no denying his goal kicking sucked (and i'm not forgetting that probably the most important skill for a KPF), but he was getting enough of the ball and creating opportunities. Not that long ago, Dunstall of all people was talking MG up for having one of the best set shot routines in the competition.

He is the only ruck who won his position for Port this year and the midfield hummed when it happened.

The only thing is that it didn't happen that often.

He's a Hinkley gold pass so he might get another 3 years. I know you want him around another year but I would move on but understand the conservative nature of a 1 year deal.

We just have a midfield that would really excel with a reliable, good ruck. I would put Lycett down at this point in time as an unreliable, average ruck who is cooked or close to cooked but can come out and do well on occasion but it is becoming increasingly rare for him.

He just lacked confidence and being in and out of the side wasn’t helping that

1. Of course he’s proven. He’s had a 32 and 23 goal season before he turned 21, half a decade before kpps are meant to hit their prime.

2. He didn’t suck last year. 23 goals from a 20 year old 2nd or 3rd kf in a shitty gameplan for kfs is a better than decent return.

As has been proven many times over on this forum, he was not playing badly this year. All his stats for his play were elite. He was just kicking for goal badly. Something which has plagued something like half of the kfs in the league at some point. Something all those kfs have in common is that their teams backed them through it and the players worked through it.

Unlike us, who ditched the player.

3. Lol. We’re not getting near a kf with Georgiades level with a pick after 25.

You think there’s a kf in the league with mitchs record , around his age that I wouldn’t jump at to bring in after an acl for that price?

I agree we’ve massively devalued him by mishandling the whole ****ing situation and letting him get injured playing in the twos.

The last paragraph is the only part of this post that matters. The rest is just arguing what he should be worth. What he should be worth and what he is worth are worlds apart right now.

If we are looking for an up and coming ruck to trade in, is it just:

Out of Contract 2023

Matt Flynn
Nick Bryan
Jordon Sweet

Out of Contract 2024

Sean Darcy
Ivan Soldo

There's that, but really this whole Esava thing is just another case of us chasing a player for a couple of years, only for us to not get the deal done initially while the Victorian club artifically inflates their worth and asks overs.
Hopefully he's not a bust like Orazio is.

I'd just prefer not to deal with these clubs at all.
