I'm glad it hasn't been put to the test for 2 decades now, but I wonder if the fickleness of our supporters would recur if we were down the bottom rebuilding. It was one of the motivations for our attempts at always being in contention.

Yeah I was just going to say how amazing it is for WCE to have those numbers despite several poor seasons

Can’t accuse them of being bandwagons

I'm glad it hasn't been put to the test for 2 decades now, but I wonder if the fickleness of our supporters would recur if we down the bottom rebuilding. It was one of the motivations for our attempts at always being in contention.

I'd hope that if we saw a dip in form for a year or two that while I wouldn't necessarily expect a membership growth that it wouldn't be a massive decline

If that drop extended to 5+ years, then I expect those who are most interested in success would drop off and we'd see a dip in numbers


In our recent WCE, I ended up sitting next to a ring in who got sick of sitting in the sun so they moved to the vacant seats beside me - he never shut up in the second quarter & was worse than TV commentary for describing what we were watching

Then at 3/4 time, every second or third word was F*** and absolutely ripping into the team because they weren't 150 points ahead & threatening to go home unless they started playing "exciting football" again - he was there with his partner and child, and she stepped in telling him to cool it

He's the sort of fan that I could see cancelling their membership if things get a little rough on field & we go through some tough times because they're no longer fun or exciting to watch

Who cares? If it takes little ginny to fire Port up maybe he should be their coach.
