No, Sherry and Simpkin were gone long before we delisted Hamling.
I cant remember who it was ... keeping Sheringham cost us someone.

What is the rationale for that?R2 starts at 20..
What is the rationale for that?
There are 18 teams, and I would have thought that Round 1 would be picks 1-18. Then Round 2 would begin with pick 19 to 36, and so on.
and Id have to say ..they were wastes of a spot. Be interesting to see who we let go to keep them...it wasn't Hamling was it?

Brisbane got a priority pick at the end of Rnd 1, pushing that out to 1 - 19, meaning Rnd 2 starts with pick 20
Priority picks, matched first round bids increase the size of the first round.
In hindsight it is easy to say that they were a waste of a spot but both were capable for playing at AFL at least to a similar level that Ruggles has played this year the difference it at the time we just didn't need them. You never know until you need them. It is also hard to tell how good a player will be until they join the system full time. You never know when the next guy might be a Podsiadly or a Barlow or a Menegola.
It's hard to measure the benefit of having a few extra mature bodies protect the younger players in the VFL. And promoting guys from our VFL list will encourage higher caliber players to join our VFL team.
Those guys we gone well before Hamling left. And they were both rookies so the opportunity cost would have been quite low.
How come the GFC page has our 2nd pick as a second rounder when it is pick 38?
Is it a typo or is there a good reason why it is a second rounder on the Cats page?

I think that our window should be open for at least the next 3 years so I can't say that I agree that we should be looking to trade established players out unless we have a situation like Motlop's this year.
It should all depend on each individual players performance and also their attitude rather than doing it as part of a list management strategy IMO.
Thanks LanaThere are two ways
1) Teams can bank up 5% of the TPP that they don't spend in one year and bring it into the next year
2) Teams can front load contracts such that a 3 year 300k a year contract is paid 400k in year in 1 and 250k in years 2 and 3
That's only because we have just lost two. You can't ignore them yet as we havnt yet played without them. Our window is definitely open for a few years to come. We have 3 players over the age of 30 and they are all defenders.
Lonergan, Mackie, Taylor. That's it, the rest are not close to retirement!
So why on earth would we be anywhere near close to falling Down the ladder? Our list demographic would suggest there is a lot of improvement to come next year when you think about it and look over the middle and forward line especially
I am sick of hearing Hawthorn get it done, I think any team could get it done if they are prepared to virtually trade themselves out of two years of drafts and overpay a b grade forward.
Like what Geelong did last year?
Our first pick in last years draft was 88?
Think Hendo had a little more behind him than Vickery.
I like our crop of kids a lot more than Hawthorn.
Like who? Their youth are by and large shit.It was 59, and there's little difference between picks when you get that late in the draft. Besides, the Hawks have recruited and started developing a crop of young players over the last few years anyway, so losing draft picks now isn't as much of a concern.

I personally believe that Barlow will end up at the Hawks, it's a great fit for him personally and will get more midfield minutes than he would get at Geelong.
I still really want Ricky Henderson, would love him off half back, loves to use the ball and run and carry.
Imagine him touy, Thurlow down there and can put Guthrie on a wing and let him take it on from there
Have cockatoo on the other wing/half forward and use the ball quick with quick ball momvement and have some guts to take it on.
If they have a crack and take risks I would love it, even if it only work 7/10 times then it's still a win for us.
Here are Hendersons stats from the past few seasons, not sure why he missed a big chunk of games this year. Maybe someone could tell us a little more about him.
One thing I just read though, growing up Henderson was a GEELONG SUPPORTER
