Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Bulldogs

He didn't look too concerned on the pine and didn't have a big icepack on it like usual, nor was it iced in the rooms (seen in the crippa post match interview in the rooms). So maybe just tightness/precautionary? At worst only going to miss the one game and be good for next year hopefully.
Probably just used to it happening by now, has become the norm more often than not

I'm still trying to work out why crazy Bevo didn't chuck someone on Kelly to curtail his influence.

Doesn't he know how good Kelly can be when he's left to run around on his own without a tag? The bloke completely dies when you chuck a spud to clamp down on him... literally any C grade player will slow him right down, but letting him go "head to head" with one of your other midfielders is just plane idiocy.

Very bizarre. Not sure what's going on there in the brain department.

Instead Kelly walks away with:

32 disposals - Equal game high
12 score involvements - Game high
13 ground ball gets - Game high
6 inside 50's - Game high
15 contested possessions - team high
8 clearances - team high
4 tackles
127 ranking points.
"You've got a lot of nerve asking that question.

Do you know the mental impact you have on people?

Are the people of BF happy with your performance?

You can get out of this press conference " Screenshot_20230820-200046_Chrome.jpg

Positive: after the media regurgitating their propaganda about us being the worst side since Fitzroy, turns out we aren't even the worst team in the last two seasons.

Cheers Norf you pieces of s**t :moustache:

Imagine being on the verge of “winning” your third wooden spoon in a row and enjoying it. What a club 🤣

Happy to win but gutted: time will tell with Reid: if he turns out as good as we think ,a lot of posters on here may be choking on their weeties. We could have manipulated an honourable loss.Losing culture?? Wat the fcuk do you clowns think we’ve had for two years? One sugar hit makes a winning culture?? We’ve lost the first pick on day two as well.It wasn’t necessarily just Reid it could have been a massive trade deal! One win and we have a MUCH stronger winning culture than NM who have been reasonably competitive this year without their first choice coach for a lengthy period.
That No1 pick was the only thing keeping me sane in this nightmare of a season.
it will probably keep Simmo his job; but I don’t know if I’ll put that in the + or - column.
whether or not Reid ends up West I’m sure his thread will be getting a hammering in years to come with “if only” or “I told ya so”
Yeah, we should have pulled the whole team to the side and worded them up to throw the game.
What were the coaches thinking.

Really?? That the best ya can do??
I seem to remember NM losing to Sydney earlier;I’m sure we could have been a tad more subtle than that.

Pssssssst

Who’s going to kick it to him?
He doesn’t win his own ball, so if we don’t win clearances he won’t be kicking too many goals.

Player we need more is McKercher.

That said I bet we draft Curtin.
I agree
Definitely want McKercher over other options.
Really don't want to blow a top 2-3 pick on a KPD

That was a seriously enjoyable day at the footy. Went expecting we'd be flogged, instead watched a great Eagles victory. Can't pretend missing out on Pick 1 won't disadvantage us, but I do have major issues with the concept of actively trying to lose a sporting contest.

Positives:
  • Kelly, Cripps, Gov all had outstanding games.
  • Oscar was great and would have kicked a bag if he was his normal accurate self.
  • Some thrilling glimpses from Hewett. When it all clicks, he's going to tear games apart.
  • Maric continues to impress.
  • Petch using his speed to advantage.
  • Hunt and JJ providing great dash.
  • A surprisingly well umpired game, in contrast to recent weeks.
  • Good all-round effort, few if any passengers.
  • Winning is better than losing (even if Harley Reid would have been a great consolation prize for losing).
  • Trainload of very quiet and sullen Bulldogs fans after the game.
Negatives:
  • The elephant in the room after a performance like that: where has that sort of effort been for most of the season?
  • A couple of goals conceded due to skills errors and some sitters missed, but didn't cost the win in the end.
  • Yeo injury. Sadly seems in the recent Shuey mode now: shows you how good he'd be if he could play regularly, but then hobbles off.
  • Surely no Harley now. Just have to hope that hindsight will show that our first round pick (Curtin, McKercher, whoever) is as good for us as Reid would have been. Looks like a long shot right now though.
  • Seeing as how an interchange error looks like giving North Harley Reid, will the Vicmedia ever question whether that was tanking the way that they spouted crap about the Eagles allegedly tanking in their last minute loss to Essendon?

Another thing... How shit is the Bulldogs forward line hey.

Reading the team sheet last night you've got sUpErStAr Aaron Naughton, Lobbster and number 1 draft pick Ugle Hagan...

Up against McGovern.... delist fodder Rotham... and Witherden. A clear advantage to them.

I mean gee whiz, if you can't kick a bag vs those three you're pretty shit. Yeo dropping back there as a 191cm undersized tall as well.

JUH had 7 touches, 2 marks 1.1
Naughton 15 touches, 2 marks 1.2
Lobbster 14 touches 6 marks and 3 goals as their best.

Aaaand then there's Macrae, 13 touches, 4 tackles, 4 clearances... then subbed off for McNeil in Q4.

wtf GIF

Reading some of the posts in this thread, it feels like I'm reading Melbourne supporters 12-15 years ago when they were cheering for their team to lose for the draft picks, or in more recent time North Melbourne.

Have some pride please. Even with your bad season and multiple 100 point losses, your players were still prepared to fight. Just being able to fight for pride alone sets you well apart from North Melbourne who give up every game, and bodes far better for your future than any prospective draft pick possibly could.

North Melbourne supporters can have their little #1 draft pick and continue their cycle of delusion. West Coast are better than that.

I am genuinely thankful for your club delivering what will hopefully be the final nail in the coffin for our fraud of a coach. No matter how much you guys rant about Simpson, there is no doubt in my mind Beveridge is a lot worse.

I was at the melbourne richmond game to determine the spoon during that period maybe even a priority pick.
It was bizarre as every time richmond kicked a goal to go in front melbourne supporters cheered.
winning to build culture yes.Losing to get better pick no.

Forgetting about pick 1 for a sec...

Jesus that was an impressive team win. All players had buy in and were on a mission. Losing was not an option.
Yea it was an impressive win. Does make you wonder how we go from the performance against Freo to this in the space of one week though

+
We won.
Overall effort.
Some premier performances from the ‘old guard’
Stand outs by Kelly, Cripps, Gov and Yeo amongst old timers.
Solid games by young uns - Hewett, Long, Edwards, Maric, Williams,
Coles going ok.
Allen going well.
Darling providing him some relief. Hasn’t been a great Darling year but providing foil to Oscar.
Simmo is invested. Love his jibe in interview with Dixon.

-
We won
Cannot have Witherden and Duggan in same backline for long haul. Too many errors leak goals.
Jones rusty.
Yeo injury.
Handball skills need work.

Edit
More -
AFL had Duggan third best and Gaff also got a mention. I can’t see either rating that well

Your comment re Witho and Duggan in same backline was the exact comment I was going to post

Apart from last weeks Derby our improvement has coincided with Sheeds absence.

Coincidence or linked?

Reinforces my view that we should only ever have one of Gaff and Sheed in the side. It’s as true now as it was in 2018 - they don’t function together (both one sided, lack pace and not great defensively)

Yet unfortunately both will be named in the side and starting round 1, 2024.

The crows traded 19 with Carlton for their future first (pick 1)

Not quite correct

The crows traded 19 AND their future first (was pick 11) for Carlton’s future first (was pick 4, not 1)
