Review Positives & Negatives vs Collingwood

+ Never gave up
Nic was great
Backline held up when they were under the pump all day, pity a couple of them can't kick like Davis and Obrien.

- Being surrounded by thousands of **** wits who whinged and bitched about the free kicks they should have got at every single contest.

Many many many positives.

Negatives:
Ebert's sense of balance is worrying.
Lack of midfield class confirmed today. Our young midfielders Shuey, Gaff, Scooter, Masten and Ebert just aren't the quality of Pendlebury et al.

I found this too.

Some folks want a free kick for every technicality, imagined or otherwise.

It's a friggin FINAL!

No soft frees.

Add Nicoski playing on and giving it LeCras under all sorts of pressure in the last quarter too.

You cannot blame Nico for that. The onus is on the player running past calling for it. He had his back to the play Nico did the right thing passing it off becausae Lecca called for it.

Lecca did the completely wrong thing but calling for it in the first place.

I keep having flashbacks of shuey's game.
It's totally unfair to signal out one bloke but he is the Messiah after all.

Apart from his three run downs , his overall game was pretty poor. Like when he tucked it under the arm, had a bounce, ran into traffic, turned around and dished off to a hot Adam Sellwood who was ran down:(

He usually doesn't do that! It sucks, apart from the win, the one thing that i really wanted to happen in this game was that Shuey turns it up and tears apart the pies.

Unfortunately that wasn't the case.

Hope he turns it all around next week! He didn't look happy during the game.

Yeah doesn't take away from the fact that it was a dumb mistake, whoever was at fault.

+ Back line was completely awesome, can not fault them
+ Q Stick in the last quarter when he was tossed in the ruck
+ Nat's FIRST QUARTER
+ The fact we didn't get blown away, fought back hard despite playing bad.
+ Few young players stood up, Gaff, Mcginnity

- Shuey. Those run downs looked and were horrible. He needs a big game next week.
- Scooter. Couldn't nullify anyone today and was awfully quiet.
- The fact the we don't seem to be able to nullify players from opposing teams when they are running hot. Or at least don't kick in there area FFS! Obrien, Davis, Swan etc..
- Forward line was totally quiet. This is why i don't buy into the "Tall forward line going to cause dramas" load of waffle that was hyped up at the start.
- Ruck dominance in the 1st windled away and got us absolutely nowhere. More hype.
- Midfield sucked completely. Priddis found the ball at least, couldn't use it.
-Stupid play on at all costs mistakes we made in the first half. Priddis mate, your 40m out, go back and take the shot, not play on and turn it over.

Not a great deal of positives.. i'm still pretty emotional and the pain is still there.

This. I know what I would be doing in this situation in a final. Would have been a huge goal.

Priddis would have been shooting from 52m. He knew it was out of his range and was looking to pass off. The ump jumped on the play on really fuicking quickly and Ive hardly ever seen those called.

Abit of Shuey love here

+ Shuey didnt give up, will be better for it. Atleast no goals resulted from those HTB, If the options not there hold on to it. We did turn it over when panicking and releasing quickly

- Shueys awareness

Positives:

+ Great start to the game
+ Nic Nat & Gaff played well in the first Final!
+ Defense was very solid
+ Intensity was great the whole game (never dropped off)

Negatives:

- Kicking into our forward line in the 3rd quarter (collingwood had spare men back got it out way too easy)

I thought Gaff was magic. First ever game at the G is in a final against the raining(spelling) premiers and he looks at home big time. Gave me the horn actually. Darling mark and goal were up there too.
Naitanui was awesome.
No point dwelling on Shueys game at least he kept at it and did some good things too.

The positive is finals experience for the young boys! And those who hadn't experienced it before. Our pressure was great. Our backline was fantastic. It was a very good effort today. Knowing half the squad will walk away and say, so this is what finals footy is like eh?! I feel very confident that we will make the grand final. I really do.

Cons-
We didn't win ):

Today felt like a grand final the pressure and determination by both sides were epic.

I think our biggest problem most of our players looked very rushed and not thinking through their play probably the most Ive seen us kick and hope all season.

O'Brien tore us one today

this:thumbsu:

while he had a shocker, he was still taking the game on.

+ we were miles better than when we played last time
+ they dominated and our back 6 were awesome
+ masten. nuff said
++ they, the young kids (JD, paddy mac, gaff), lifted when the game looked beyond us. honestly can't remember the last time i saw our boys lift like that (AND without cox or kerr)... feeling kinda proud TBH.

- stupid mistakes cost us... there are soooo many (priddis missed opportunity, selwood dropped mark... just to name a couple)
- wellingham and penders killed us. from memory wellingham had 2 goals from stoppages in the first half when we were 'more so' on top.

Finally got home un-pissed for a change.

+Defence - HM Glassy, bloody unreal performance. Waters, Butler, Schoey and big E were just fantastic. Most of their goals were opportunistic shit really.
+ NN - Jolly has a new anus.
+ Gaff - very impressed, for a kid his size he put his scone over the ball every time and showed some composure.
+ Didn't give in till the end.
+ Darling not much ball, but good pressure: built for finals.
+ Masten, lightning hands.

- Many guys overawed by the game. Pace and pressure got hold of a few blokes.
- Shuey tried to play his normal game but had no space and time... looked very bad
- Kennedy was woeful... couldn't hold anything
- LeCras was smacked by O'Brien, and was pathetic in general.
- Nico was shit and seemingly unaccountable the other way.
- Why didn't Paddy play the whole game???
- Ebert, ran bloody hard but no real influence.
- up forward we played school footy, kick n' hope all day.
- Why the **** is that clown Davis allowed to run around free setting up play across half back.

Shuey will be a better player after today

Sometimes its best to learn the hard way. I thought this would happen to many
of our youngsters today playing in their first high paced Final. So Shuey being the
only youngster having trouble adjusting to the pace was a good thing

Shuey will be BOG next week

Positives
- Defense
- Didn't fade away, came back at 'em
- Put great intensity effort around the ground. Of course it can't be sustained for long periods but we did good in this area imo. Some may disagree but I thought the parts we weren't dominant said more about Collingwood than us (how can you step them on song??)
- Nic Nat does some great things and excited to how much better he can become

Negatives
- Forward line completely failed :(
- Wasted golden opportunities
- Shuey. Maybe not a negative, but certainly neutral. I expect big things and you didn't deliver
- If you are going to tackle BRING 'EM DOWN. Collingwood ran away too often when we had opportunities to create a stoppage.

+ Gutsy team effort.
+ Excellent finals experience for younger players.
+ Excellent forward press in the first quarter. We were in control.
+ Went toe to toe with the best team in the H&A season and came close early in the last quarter to causing an upset.
+ Glass, Mackenzie, Hurn, Nic Nat and Gaff. Lynch probably deserves a mention too, given that he hadn't scored many against Collingwood in the recent past and managed to score 3 today in a QF; found goals where our other forwards failed.
+ Lecras' goal from the boundary after a desperate double effort from Darling and Masten to keep the ball alive; & Darling's strong mark and goal in the last quarter.

- Turnovers hurt us big-time, especially in the third quarter.
- Poor decision making and kicking at times.
- Some of our more experienced players were quiet (e.g. Embley, LeCras & Nico).
- Bombing it long into our forward 50. We had too many players just kicking and hoping. Collingwood repelled the majority of these attacks way too easily.
- Missed chances from set shots (e.g. Kennedy; Shuey & Scooter in the last quarter).

I think some of us are being a bit harsh on Shuey. He underestimated the tempo (finals football is different, obviously). He was caught out three times, but his endeavour was excellent. He will lift in the SF.

Is it too negative to think we should just concede that Harry O will beat Lecca and Tarrant will out play JK and not play through either? Watching today from the stands it just never ended well and was depressing... Didn't seem to look for Darling/Lynch who had size on their opponent enough.

But anyway....
Positives
Backline
Effort
Could knock Judd out of the finals?

Negatives
Just lacking some polish.

+ we ran Collingwood a lot closer than I thought, with some maligned players performing well

- some 'supporters' on this board. ;)

Negatives - We won the spoon last year.

Positives - We ran the reigning premier to within 20 points on their home turf, in Smelbourne, in front of a 63K crowd, despite being last years spooners.

WCE, I ****ing love thee :thumbsu:

Darlings last Qtr mark, made me spoof!
