Review R14: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Sydney Swans

The Presser:
Maffew "I thought the boys tried all night, Sydney are a good side, there is a reason they are on top of the ladder".

Reporter "But last week you lost to a side that had only won game for the season".

Maffew "Yes, but as I said before that game Richmond were in good form"
Is this a joke?

Yeah sorry he looked fine the first time he got the ball in the middle took off two swans players on his clacker and he had absolutely no clue they were there. Absolutely not a midfielders rear end . Yet another example of Nicks playing someone where it doesn’t suit.

I take it you missed his first 8 weeks of last year when he was transitioned into the midfield?

Sad that even the most positive long-term supporters are feeling this way.

I have attended since the very 1st game & questioning why should I renew next season if we are not going to have major changes, including the coach.

We have invested so much in this club over the years & the pathetic response from Olsen & Silvers to bunker down as nothing to see here is the last thing we want to hear when it's all going to shit!

As I have always said - the only constant in a footy club is the fans.

The coaches come and go, the players come and go (unfortunately some become coaches or directors and never leave the bloody club) however the ones that stick thru and thin are the fans.

Too much Rachelle hatred by some. Imagine playing half forward and consistently being 3 on 1 because your nuffty coach plays an outnumber at the contest around the ground. Rachelle must be soft because he can't consistently beat/outmark players and gets caught holding the ball. Our coach is ruining this guy, that's how we rebuild remember

Other than the previous two times he heard footsteps and knows full well he got caught out he has not done it again. What bemuses me is he is given a roll ( and actually asked for it) when he doesn’t even posses the one trait you need …awareness!!! He has absolutely none!!! One decent chance last night and was virtually bought down by two swans players. I think he is a great opportunist forward but a long way from a midfielder.

As an aside , Sydney’s academy has enabled them to stay a powerhouse and now has them streets ahead of everyone. Surely the AFL needs to pull that back . It’s such an unfair advantage

It's an absolute rort, plain and simple.

A club that's been in a city 40 years shouldn't need an Academy and should be able to compete at the draft with every other side.

Sydneysiders still barely give a shit about AFL after that amount of time even with the advantage of an Academy, it's never going to happen... If this "BluUDdzzz kULtcHa" exists they definitely don't need it either...

It's at the point now where everyone knows he's gone, the players aren't listening, and the decision makers - who just re-signed him - are working out whether they're invisible enough to sack him and stay on, or if they need to start lining up another board to jump on or department to slide in to.

I want Nicks sacked immediately  :grimacing:.
Tonight :madv1:.

Won't happen.

Blind Freddy can see that he is Coaching us to Nowhere, but the people who gave him that unwarranted, mystifying, ridiculous 2-year extension are the same idiots who now have to sack him.
It would be an admission that they got it wrong.
Very wrong, so wrong that on principle alone, they'd have to resign.

They won't do that.
They always get it wrong and should walk along with Nicks.

Yeah ... but ...um I never said anything about him playing midfield. I commented on expectations a hf can consistently out compete a 3 on 1. I don't see him as a midfielder yet either, but he had no chance to develop under our forward structures and its damaging his mental state game and reputation amongst fans. This is down to coaching

Except none of that is true about his game last night. Took a great overhead mark early, then in the 3rd took on Grundy in a marking contest and split it, got the ball to ground and managed to halve a contest with 3 Sydney players. He was working his arse off all night and did not take a backwards step in a contest.

What he is saying and is true , he is playing careful . It stands out a mile if you look. I hate to say it but compare how Jason horn Francis hunts the ball !!

Funny thing is, this isn't the loss that will make the club take a long hard look at itself. That one is still a while away...
The team has potential. We still have glaring holes in the midfield, ruck, another key forward, small defender, rebounding defender but Nicks has no potential and is possibly the worst coach ever seen at afl level and is only making them worse. If the board can't see that they shouldn't be on the board.

And yet last year it was JHF copping shit, and they were highlighting that passage of play where Rachele burned off him.

We just suck at developing players.

They are different players. JHF is a bull in the Roo mould. I don't see that player in Rachele. More of an outside creative type.

Yeah sure did , so you delete the parts where he gets caught with the ball every time he tries to break away.

Not being a Rachelle apologist. But suggesting evertime he ... cough "breaks" away. Although maybe given your post brake was freudian? Everytime - that's just ridiculous 🙄 no point even discussing stuff with preconceived crap like this

Ummm, this was actually bad. A leadership player decking someone for no reason and costing an obvious free right in front of goal. Stupid
I loved it, and don't care that it cost a goal. At this stage losing is the best thing for crows right now.
For no reason? Bitch got what he deserved
You're probably right if we were a good team, but we ain't even close to that.

Bad: The defending for Heeney's third quarter goal was horrific. Ditto for Amartey's 6th. Keane had a mare, just in general. Butts got outbodied by a significantly smaller Jake Lloyd at one point.
Imagine reading that yesterday morning.

"Who kicks 6?"

"Yep. Some bloke called Amartey. And he's not even close to finished."
