Gold Coast departure was for mental health.
He's just a dude with confidence and mongrel, you're reading too far into things.
Focus on the footy player, not the person.
Hey, I’m a fan, last week when he kicked a goal his teammates barely acknowledged it.
Just seemed odd. Seems like a lone wolf. And I love his mongrel, rag dolled a hawthorn player in the goal square today. Should be more of it.

Lack of love for Plowman, just incredible.
Loved his last quarter.
Played injured well, like a Gordon Greenidge.
Coaches still frustrate with a lot of dumb stuff but content enough for now, just to get a win and hope the coaching box gets way smarter as we move on.

8th spot is there for the taking if injury rate slows way down for us and coaching gets so much smarter than this.

Sydney are probably the only team currently in the 8 who could actually drop out. They are two games and a lot of % ahead of us. It’s an 8 point game and if we don’t win it’s going to be close to impossible to catch them for Finals. Huge test and will really show where we are at.
Richmond too.

I don’t know what it is about Liam Stocker that some of our supporters don’t like about him but this is getting ridiculous. He kicked his first AFL goal and “only” a few players went to him, we trailed the game to that point. The celebration from Liam’s teammates gets compared to Jarryd Brander’s after 10 or 11 of his 17 teammates (all in the forward half) went to him. Zac Williams kicks a goal yesterday to put a good buffer between us on the scoreboard and it was like WCE players going to Brander and the first thought for some of our posters was to immediately think “how sad is Stocker right now?“. Like we should take enjoyment out of Liam Stocker possibly being sad.

The people who have ridden Liam Stocker, who would likely claim that they have friends of friends of friends of Carlton players, think only Liam Jones is Liam Stocker’s friend, because only Jones reached out to Stocker after he left the hub last year (I mean, no one bloody knows if that was the case as the only connection we have to these players is on game day). IMO, we should all just think everything between Stocker and his teammates is rosy because it is ridiculous to think otherwise. It really is.

He hunts the ball ferociously doesn’t lose his feet or give away away frees he’s very aware in congestion looking every bit AFL midfielder
💯 re stocker...very reliable in the contest. knows how to position himself so the ball and man do not get free and if the ball moves out it is to our advantage.

Can't pretend that all is well after that game.

Positives were we tightened up defensively in that second half. The leakage toward the end of the second quarter was absolutely dreadful so to their credit at least that was rectified.

Williams - best game by far. Was good to see the boys get around him for his first goal but for me the most pleasing thing was that he wasn't feeling 100%, had his knee strapped early in the game and he didn't let it deter him, he put his best foot forward still. Hopefully this is the catalyst, he needs to be at half back like we've been screaming for when it was obvious it wasn't going to work as a mid.

Eddie Betts - have to say I didn't see this past month coming. He has been pretty good considering his age. I really liked how he was getting down the other end of the ground to help out when the pressure was on and the Hawks were pressing early in the last quarter. Thought that was a really important decision by him.

Owies - Keeps growing, he puts pressure on, he lays tackles, he impacts the scoreboard. Exactly what you'd ask for from a small forward.

JSOS - Got through unscathed. Hopefully the footy gods are in his corner now and he can get an injury free run for the rest of the season. His footy IQ continues to impress. There's always a few "almost" or "spent it before he had it" moments with him, it's as if his mind and body aren't in tune, his brain is ahead. In time it'll be like 2nd nature.

Stocker - has great endeavour. He really looks like a natural, some moments could have been better but the significant thing is that he just looks a player.

Walsh - superstar. Can't believe how many frees against he copped early in that last quarter. He's just got this iron will and won't be denied.

Thought the captains were very good today too. Crippa laid 10 tackles, exactly what we need from him. Doc just looks like he's playing with less pressure and really becoming a weapon for us.

Newman was pretty good. Similar to Parks tackle on Tippa a month ago, his tackle on that Hawks ruckman in the goal square turned the game imo.

TDK was an important inclusion. Needs to tidy up his kicking but it was great to finally see him out there instead of Casboult. Took some good marks, almost made a meal of his set shot in the goal square but he was having fun out there and can't wait to see him get some consistency.

Weiters was a rock again. He has fought through another painful game which really stamps home how much he's grown.
good description of these players. lots of positives.

Hurts, but timing is everything. They had no injuries to best 22 when we played them

Wish we were playing them now
Collingwood were putrid round 1 and their supporters I spoke to said we would smack them after the way we played the tigers. They have been shit every game bar ours....we let them be good that game, simple as that. It's a game we should have won

Can’t emphasise how much of a fan I am of Liam Stocker!!

There’s so much to look forward to there, he’ll prove every critic wrong and some IMO...
Yep just needs to be kept being played. I'm just waiting for that elite kicking skills that he apparently has to kick in, yet to see it. I'm sure it will at some stage.

There were reports of Stocker having too much FIGJAM week one he was at the club, he is clearly disliked by Teague who makes him wait longer than anyone for a chance.

I absolutely love the way he goes about it on the field and believe his kicking will be a real feature once he gets more confidence.

I played with one ****head who everyone disliked, but he was a gun so you had to deal with it, he tried to fit in, by sometimes the narcissism runs so deep just when you think they have turned a corner they fall right back in to being a w***er.

If all that is true, and we dont know if it is, I dont think it matters. We have a lot of high draft picks that are a bit too comfy and it might spur them on.

Eg, Walsh is with his mates Setterfield and Dow at the skinny dog,

Walsh- "can you ****ing believe Stocker in that team meeting? No awareness to ask that sort of question, Teaguey was dumbfounded. I can't believe he is picking him in the seniors over you guys"

Only gunna motivate Dow to beat the door down in the twos and Setterfield to ****ing switch on a bit in the seniors.

Not so sure.

They played the Dogs round 1 and while never looking like winning they missed some easy chances losing by 16

They played the Lions after us, leading most of the game and lost after the siren

Still a fair bit to work on, but what was pleasing for me was a mindset change to try and retain the ball more, evident by having nearly 40 more marks

We seemed slightly more in control when chipping it around between the arcs and more switching/chipping trying to transition

Most times Hawks flooded their back half, but we need to be patient with entries when it's that congested

Well esoteric definitely didn't select Carlton, it will be interesting to see, the suspense is killing me now, I hadn't even thought of it before you mentioned it, thanks :tearsofjoy:
3 way death ride. Fun!!

recall also that murph trained with him (and kouta) during preseason/off season.

All the talk about that draft and why Walsh was taken at one when this player etc etc etc
The question in five years time might be
GC had pick 2 in that draft why did they not pick Stocker in actual fact how could any team let him slip that far blah blah blah blah.
This kids got a lot a Dominator/Scotland presence about him.
I'm going to sit back watch and enjoy,

Once again it was well over 2 years since he played 5 games in his debut year..
You vastly overestimate players intelligence to think that they knew (or didn't know) that it was his first goal.
Most on here didn't know at the time till a few tried to make it out to be something.

If he was on the outer of the playing group; his work rate in games and helping the team to win will quickly bring him into the fold. Funny how you can quickly warm to people when they bring positive results to a team

Good to get a win, even though it may not have been "pretty "

I realised our kicking was a big issue but didn't realise the extent until J Brown mentioned "18th in kicking efficiency " Ughhh

Walsh's first half enormous
Writers dominant
Plow excellent
Murphys 3rd was Murphy of old
Owies ....found something there ?
Williams is a natural half back
Saad excellent again
Quaz needs to lift

no no - it must be put aside so that flaws in our game that are obvious to any idiot can be raked over and over so that any enjoyment is crushed out.......

Walsh, McKay and Weitering are AA standard at the minute.
McKay's sore arm is a worry. Obviously hindered his work yesterday. Very commendable effort. And that goal!

Might become a crowd favorite. I feel moved to support the headband wearers. Like their intent. :D :carlton:

I can’t see David Teague disliking anyone. He doesn’t seem the type to dislike one of his own players.

Agreed the Sydney game was going the
Same way as ours pies all over them in the first quarter then horse mixed things up and changed the game and came away with a win that’s what a good coach does
