We're the land of friggin Giants. Don't know why we keep recruiting KPP. We severley lack run.
As soon as the team was announced I knew we were too tall. We need to target running HB's, snall forwards and a ruckman at the end of the year.

The only consolation I have after today is that at the end of the year, we get the best young player in the country as Pick 1....................................hang on...................

Yeah we lost, but it’s not the actual fact that we didn’t get the win in the last few seconds that hurts, it’s watching the whole game and thinking ‘how can we be this bad’.

We have a list chock full of top end draft talent, yet somehow at Carlton we manage to not only destroy their skills but also make them some of the stupidest footballers that ever lived.

I put this squarely and truly on the coach/coaches.. you employ a good enough game plan and teach it well enough to your players, and those players don’t make the mistakes and stupid decisions that they are currently making.

Watching our games, all I see is chaos on the field.
We don’t have any system for moving the hall forward, other than along the boundary line, even when we change up our ball movement it always involves the boundary line.. last week long kicks along the boundary, this week short chip kicks along the boundary, but always just bomb it inside forward 50 without any thought.

One more thing.. we tried to shop Casboult around at the end of last year, no one was willing to take him so we kept him on as purely depth, he was supposed to disappear in the seconds until we needed him for depth, and that happened last week.

So why the ****, after we get our talls back, do we go and leave casboult in the side?
The coaching is the problem, our structure and game plan is disastrous, and our selections are even worse.

Dow's disposal is already confidence-related. Have a feeling today's game will serve as a 'make or break' moment for him. Hope his mettle holds up.
Don’t mask it knavey he’s a shit kick full stop , confidence got nothing to do with it. His “natural” technique is flawed and you either have it or you don’t that’s why his kicking is poor on the run and from a set shot.....see casboult

Are you making that up sky? Because I watched Bolton’s presser and he didn’t say anything at all about bombing to our fwds.
The only concern for me is that he said he doesn’t want the ball to go into our fwds too quick or at least that’s the way I understood it. If so that makes my head spin...listen to Wayne Carey about getting the ball in quick to your fwds...he’s a dick and all but one of the greatest chf of all time so I pay attention when he’s talking about how the ball should go in to your forwards.

Genuine question though GS. Do we have the footskills to get the ball quickly into our forward line? To partially answer my question, I guess we don’t have the footskills to get it in there slowly either.

defence 101.....

Few of the older guys work hard enough like usual but our defense has always been shaky with the basics. How can anyone fault ole Selwood getting owned by Gibbs but he kicked the winning goal because McLean let him play goal side. No one bleeds at crunch time better than us. Just need better leaders in general.

There’s a little bit more heat, but I don’t think the responses would have been too different if we had of crawled over the line.

It was obvious we were playing an average team who were actually playing worse than us, but there are clear structural deficiencies and a few players who are in the team by virtue of being high draft picks and need development - which is almost fair enough given our current predicament.

Unfortunately there’s no real solution to the rest of the season re: same coaches and same personnel. It’s also hard enough re-jigging a gameplan, but made even harder by having such a young squad and new rules which favour teams with more shared experience.

The majority of you are honestly ******* insane.

No..... It's clearly on the players for not taking the time to hit up the right option, or at the least kick to advantage. Why are you looking to blame coaches or recruiting staff, it's all on the players and they know it. It's a young team this shit is going to happen this year, next year and possibly the year after too. Stop expecting miracles and accept this shit is going to be the norm until our players have a lot more experience.

On the plus side the back line now looks to have settled down, it took a season but Jones, Weitering and Plowman are working well together.
It'll probably take the forwards a similar amount of time to gel together.
It’s easy to say it’s the players but in all my time watching footy when players are poor users of the ball or make bad decision, they generally remain this way.

Class normally stands out from early on.

It's not made up but it's a little disengenuous and exaggerated. He made a comment about bombing it long about a week ago which was basically it's part of what we do.

Either way, he's not getting this front half plan right. As you say, careys a dickhead but if he knows anything at all it's how he liked to receive the ball in the forward 50.

Joke's already been done. Wasn't great the first time either, to be honest.

Correct. It’s blatantly obvious when you pay close attention to how he holds the ball.

A coach needs to work with him to fix his technique.

I don't understand why there wasn't anyone on the goal line. Surely someone had to be there.
McGovern was sent back but stood at the top of the goal square....that was the fatal error....but we should never have been in that position. Even north iced the clock last night and from a long way out too.

Could not agree with you any more than I do

Nothing is worse with a club than when you lose like that and you see your captain visibly upset... after busting his gut. Then to Charlie who did F All and he’s smiling and laughing with suns players after the siren.

That really pisses me off so much. Not good enough from our players andnot good enough from the club.

Gutted by the loss and if not for that kick in the last 15 seconds, this thread would look completely different

Bolton will not get sacked, so b1tch and moan as much as you like

The 4 talls didn't cost us the game, it was disposal, again
Your right shocking disposal kills us every week but imo selecting 4 talls played a part in the ineptness of our entries inside 50 .
Contributed to the lack of cohesion within the forward structure .
The frustrating thing was that despite having all the talls GC defenders killed us in the air in our fwd 50 .
They intercept marked all day long .

I honestly think that loss, in that manner, was better for us than a win.

We played awfully throughout that match. Our disposal was putrid. Our structures were awful. Our fitness was terrible - we blew up 10 minutes into the third quarter and barely scored after that. Our finishing was atrocious. Our young players have glaring deficiencies that need to be exposed and fixed. Our list management has been terrible.

We need a week or two or 3 of the harshest scrutiny imaginable. Put the young players in the media flames - Fow needs to be humiliated for his efforts. So does McKay, Setterfield, Curnow, etc The leaders need to cop it too - Ed could have won us the game, Cripps could have iced it and his opppent kicked the game winner. A furnace has to be out over the place. Our players. The coach. The assistants. Our player development. Our list management (seriously - we are this bad and we traded our first and second round picks next year?).

Too often over the past few years we have got away with losing and losing badly. Excuses have been made for age, for injury, whatever. Now we need the scrutiny, need that burning fire to cleanse and purify.

Whatever survives the other side will be harder, tougher, better. What burns in the flames is arguably what is holding us back anyway.

Had that Bowes kick gone the other side of the post, had Curnow kicked a goal at the end - a win would have disguised one of the most incompetent Carlton games in a long while (and its a pretty long list). We'd be raving about Cripps (despite his glaring errors), Weitering, Jones, Mcgovern's second quarter (and not the other 3), Walsh, etc.

A loss brings the scrutiny of the AFL upon us. It won't be pretty. Bring it on...
This is what I am saying about the players hurting. I dont think they have really hurt till today. I dont think they need the media to tell em.

Results aside I was on holiday in the gold coast and was able to take my son to his first game ever. We were standing in line to buy some tickets at the gate when I got a tap on the shoulder asking if I wanted a couple of spare tickets that they weren't using. Offered to pay but they would not accept anything telling me that tgey had got them from the club for free. 3 tickets worth 80 each. We went up to our see on the 50 level 2, really good seats. All the faces around were familiar but i didnt know where i had seen them before. Then the lady who was sitting next to us told me the people that gave you the tickets were Kade Simpson's parents. Lovely people they spoke to my wife all day and ad a muck around with my son. Everyone up their including the board and family members were gutted. Got a real sense that everyone has invested so much into this club it's just starting to hurt really bad that we can't get across the line.

All in all apart from losing it was a good day my son had a ball. GCS put on a good day with entertainment to occupy the kids. Whilst the result wasn't the best I still love this club and am certain we will turn the corner soon.

We play well and just come up short in games we are not expected to win, and play like busted arses in games we have no excuse to lose. Our mindset is fragile IMO.

Richmond had a similar issue till they managed to sort it out long enough to win a premiership. Hardwick was seen as a joke for awhile there. No idea how we fix our issues as an observer though.
