Gritty win today, the Hawks played close to as well as they have all year despite some key outs, was very pleased with the way we fought back hard in the 2nd after getting comprehensively bent over by Razor Ray Chamber Pot. After that we really controlled the contest and momentum for most of the rest of the game and TBH, I thought the scoreboard flattered the Hawks a bit. Our best ball handling and transition is nowhere near there yet, but we'll win more than enough to play finals if we can just keep doing the basics we got right today - maintain the pressure levels we had for most of the game, stick our tackles when the opposition is trying to fast break and win our share of contests.

Once again our ruck dominance and the centre square clearances which stemmed from it proved crucial, Nank was great all day and Soldo had a really decisive 2nd half; any time they could have wrestled the momentum away, when we went back to the centre square the big fella would invariably give us another hitout to advantage, even hit the scoreboard again late with a very timely snag as reward for his strong defensive pressure.

Prestia had a great return, absolutely love watching him with ball in hand in traffic, he almost always picks the exact right moment to dispose and seldom misses the perfect option. Cotch was really solid again, another good effort in the middle from Short, Pickett brought his usual hardness and attack, had another really good game, Lambo, KMac and Graham all solid. Important cameos through the middle again from Shai and Dusty with their forward work even better, just a pleasure watching both play. Shai was crucial to lifting us when desperately needed in the 2nd and that freakish goal in the 3rd was vintage Dusty magic, one of his best.

Another outstanding game from Lynch, starting to look like a very strong Coleman chance, was really impressed with his ground level work today against an opponent who you'd reckon on paper he'd struggle against in that area. Solid effort again from Jack, just continues to get the job done. Good 2nd half from Chaos after being virtually anonymous in the first half (that last quarter was classic Chaos gold, a laugh and groan a minute stuff!) and you'd have to look deep into the pressure acts end of the stat sheet to find MRJ's key numbers, but he was really good in that area. Ball handling well down on the past fortnight and not much went his way with the fall of the ball, but still a solid tick overall for mine.

Grimes was probably the pick of the defenders with a typically reliable win virtually every time he went near it. Baker had clearly his best game for the year, back into contested beast mode across half back, hard as nails effort today. Broad and Vlas reliably solid, Rioli had another good game, decent defensively and really like that he is starting to look increasingly bold with his rebound. Hoping Balta was just a minor tweak or some tightness, didn't seem even remotely gutted when he got subbed, so fingers crossed we were foxing a little.

Saw a few posts potting Biggie, I thought his game was perfectly acceptable. Made some really nice, clean spoils, didn't get a lot of ball, but every disposal was effective without any trace of panic in a hot game. Didn't get a chance to use his athleticism on the rebound at all, but it was obvious when he was closing down space that it's going to be a real asset for him at the top level and the confidence he got today is a good starting point to him building towards more regular senior games down the track.

Feels much better to be back on the winning side of the ledger, important to consolidate that with another win next week. Looking forward to selections for my favourite non-finals game of the year and to seeing our Indigenous boys strut their stuff, good chance to steer another old foe's season towards the cliff of bottom-8 oblivion and put us firmly on track for September.

I'm concerned about the tigers..

Finally, we have Lynch doing what he is supposed to be doing and Jack is working well with him BUT......

The rest of our team needs to lift because if Lynch does not fire then we are in trouble,,, and big trouble.

Lambert, Edwards , vlaus, grimes, Mac, cotch, all well below their best, Soldo not far behind.

We need more consistency from our A grade players. and we need a rocket to force active play because there are easily five players I would not pick for next week. This comes from the TOP. The coaching staff needs to send a messege.
I must have been at a different game thought Soldo was good 3 goals KMac provided a lot of run but still does some dumb things Cotch was ok his disposal sometimes is piss poor

The positive is that Stack has an upside and given 3 games in the AFL he would be close to Bolton and Dustys X factor. George will never be that.

WE just need to see more forward, Stack is a finals player that could win games. He just needs AFL game time investment.
And we have had many players who got games that didnt deserve them. Time to look forward TIGERS.
Agree give Stack a few games in a row to build his confidence

Don’t understand the George hate…

triple premiership player…gets picked almost all the time….

I see the pressure he brings…slots his 1-4 or occasionally 4-0

…not always clean…but does his job which Dimma asks…

…which is why he is a 3x premiership player

Was better than MRJ imo

Typical of this board though.

MRJ plays shit "THIS KID IS GOING TO BE A GUN"

George ices the game for us "Oh great, now the spud gets another week"
