Sorry, but Broad is not ahead of Balta for team structure, not even close.
You realise Balta was named at CHB in the AFLPA under 22 squad.
With Astbury back in the team Broad a better fit than Balta in defence. Last time I looked next week's game is open age.

If you want Balta in the backline ahead of Astbury then a choice of Astbury or Chol as second ruck. I know who gets the nod there.

In Dimmas own words Broad was picked as "fourth on the bench" so it would be a drastic change in thinking to drop Balta who has been a revelation this year.
Just wont happen if any change is made.

You simply can't play Chol in this game. I don't mind him and he's had a solid year, but honestly even in a ruck contest I would rather Broad / Astbury / Balta. It's not about structure, it's about having 22 blokes out there that are competitive and that you can trust. Broad hasn't put a foot wrong all year. Also it looks like it will be raining or slippery.

Balta can't be dropped.

He could easily be one of the keys to defeating Port.

Port have a strong midfield and forward half. With Balta there is the opportunity to get the ball from the backline and transition it into the RFC forward fifty catching the Port backline out and giving our forwards advantage!!

Dont forget Ladhams got coaches votes (as did Dixon) against us in his 10th game in r11, and has been on fire all year, and Marshall with Ryder were one of the best duo's in the comp all season. Both been fantastic all year. We were just fortunate one was missing, and unfortunate that wont be the case on friday.

McGuans comment was on the mark in my opinion.
In theory I agree with what you are saying. Chol actually rucked quite well last game he played, and was not as inept as most on here thought, but overall he is too big a risk as apart from his ruckwork he is not a finals footballer.

Would rather they let Balta off the hook a bit. Astbury is there to go to Dixon even if Balta lines up on him. Balta might relish a run on the ball, he has been down back all season and looks to me like a young player running a bit out of steam, mentally not physically. Might be just the tonic he needs, and he could be a real weapon on ball if he fires.

Ladhams plays mainly as as a key forward rarely any more than 4-5 hitouts , so if he spends a lot of time in ruck it’s not very effective . He’s looks handy up forward , broad would be a good match up
Ladhams is way to big for Broad. Broad with Grimes needs to be third man up. Balta and Asbury should take Ladhams and Dixon, and when Ladhams rucks, Balta should to.

Id play miller before chol but i hope they stick with an unchanged side with balta the second ruck

I'd play Caddy before Chol. Caddy knows how to lead and mark, and provides toughness at the contest.

Chol needs a spell in the ressies to regain touch and confidence. Given that that's not possible I can't see him playing.

And as McGuans said, someone like Chol will take advantage of the undersized port defence in the air.

Whatever decision Dimm makes I'm fine with, after all he's delivered two flags :)

He might, but like most games he has played forward he spends much of the game leading his opponent away from Riewoldt or Lynch, or not getting in their way. In the Brisbane game especially early, Chol lead Andrews completely away from the ball which opened our forward line, hence 4 goal quarter.

Lynch (in particular) and Riewoldt will trouble their shortish backline anyway, with or without Chol. Also narrow ground means the ball will come in more directly, so there won't be as much space to lead into. We will kick it long and high you'd think.

Todd Marshall is 198 too

They've got Marshall too. 198cm. I'm not sure if they play him on the ground with ladhams and Dixon. Neither Broad or Grimes are tall enough for their attack.
If Chol comes in for Broad, then selectors value his value forward /ruck vs Broads value back. With Balta KPD

Marshall is still pretty young and skinny and not physical. He plays a bit like Hipwood, reckon Grimes could take him as he is rarely outmarked. If they play 3 talls up forward for long periods Houli/Short/Baker could cause them rebounding issues.

Interesting that Chol in for him in ruck and exploit Ports defence love to , but I just can't get my head picking him.

I'm the same. If dimma didn't mention him twice in the presser, and mention Broad as the 4th on the bench, I wouldn't have given Chol a second thought for selection.
And im not sure about the head games theory, as Dimmas isn't realy into bullshittin like some coaches like the Scott's.,

It does make sense tho McGuane comments on Chol. Not for Broad tho has flexibility and gives you 120%.
