Outstanding games by Lynch & Prestia.Pity the 3rd sun hasn't fired a shot all season.
Yet another cool headed game by our man Sydney. He won't win the R/S because he wears the wrong jumper.
Encouraging signs by Chol.
Think Balta & Garth need a spell.
Higgins needs to come down a peg or 2.
Butler enough of your showboating.
Ellis back to his normal self.

IN:Cotch,Astbury,Soldo,Bolton & Sheds
OUT:Balta,Garth,Higgins,Butler,Manhedue

Pre game: This should be a 60-80 point loss.

Post Game: We lost by 5 goals.

Yet a lot of people are melting? FMD we had 11 players under 50 games against a senior, virtually full strength Adelaide!

There were a lot of positives tonight and it was never going to be a performance without flaws. At the end of round 3 if anyone offered 7-6 at the bye, you would've taken it.

Dimma just said Cotchin, Astbury, Lambert, Edwards and possibly Short will be available for our next game... The only way is up from here - hopefully.

At full strength, we can beat anyone in September.

Things aren’t as bad as they look. The areas we were deficient in prior to injuries are still our areas of concern. And we certainly won’t fix them with the team we have on the park. What’s frustratingly costing us games by big margins now are our scores conceded from D50 turnovers. That’s not the 2017/18 Richmond. Each week it’s at least 30-40 points. We bring that down to 2/3 goals a game and our margins won’t be so blown out. Yes we were dominated in clearances (-24). That was always going to happen though with Chol/Balta playing an inform ROB who statistically played the best game of any ruckman this year and literally single handily pushed them to +50 in scores from stoppages by giving first access to the Crouch bros who each had 11 clearances a piece. And really with their centre dominance they should have won by a lot more. We will improve our clearances once we have Nank/Cotch running and Edwards and Lambert who play as smart half’s that push into the square as 4th onballers.

What we can immediately prevent is points from turnovers. We conceded 6 goals as a result of D50 turnovers. That’s the margin of the game right there. Our movement out of D50 is terrible. A quick play-on 15m to the pocket and then trying to run it out of defence only to put more pressure on ourselves and turn it over. It’s usually Astbury/Broad/Garthwaite/Houli in any order. The only times we are confident in an exit is the rare occasion Stack rushes to kick in or receive it as he always looks to move the ball forward. Most teams would just kick long and clear the 50 to avoid pressure so close to goal. We seem to just invite more pressure. Totally unnecessary. That’s what cost us this game. It’s something we clearly train to do as we do it most weeks and it just doesn’t work. Need to go long like 15 other clubs do. It moves the ball 50m up the ground and creates another stoppage chance which is how teams are scoring this year, through stoppages. No doubt the loss of Riewoldt and Nank is hurting our confidence going long out of D50. Sydney (up till R9) Carlton and Richmond are the only teams that use this kick in tactic and try to score via D50 transition. It just doesn’t work anymore.

And for those saying our pressure game is done. The majority of our score came from turnovers. That’s our pressure game. They dominated clearances but we have such a mobile forward line of smalls that we can press up the ground again and again to apply pressure. And pressure isn’t just tackles it’s working your gut off to run into a space that would otherwise be used to channel ball movement. And the easiest way to protect that space is with speed. Talls and resting mids just don’t have that stamina or mobility for repeat efforts. That’s why Dimma continues with guys like Butler/Castagna/Higgins/Rioli/Baker despite their poor form it’s their ability to cover ground fast offensively and defensively that fits our pressure game plan. It doesn’t matter if they don’t score so long as they’re part of the transition it’s applying pressure to the opposition. Paul Roos highlighted this perfectly in our Essendon game. Without our smalls we would have lost by 100 points tonight.

Where you based Matt? Sounds like you should have been on here years ago.

You're right, I should have been on here many years ago. I just never bothered to look up a footy forum until today.

I'm in Colombia, but I lived many years in Melbourne although born and bred in Sydney. Don't hold that against me. Hehe.
I sometimes train with the AFL side Bogota bulldogs in Colombia.

I agree and with those ins I would like the following changes:
Ins Lambert Cotchin Astbury Short Sheds Bolton
Outs Butler Menadue Ellis Higgins Garthwaite Rioli.

Your boys fell away in the last, but **** me some of your fellow supporters were dishing up some great banter.

That’s what it’s all about aye
We all give each other shit in the heat of the game but it’s all in mostly good fun and just down to passion

Can’t get over how the afl want to sterilise our game

Good win for the crows btw and all the best for Jenkins
With any luck we can have a repeat of 17” in September ;)
