Why on earth was the scratch match (“scrimmage match” 😒) cancelled wtf?
There’s no way he can play with no preparation in a final.
Everyone laughing and Tayla Harris Andrews playing but meatball just as likely to cop an injury or be completely off.
Meatball actually takes a bit of time to warm into seasons. He pretty much kicks the ball along the ground the first few weeks lol worm burners

Think its more to do with not enough players being available to play.

All non finals teams have checked out, and other teams in finals have their own injuries to deal with so its slim pickings.

Prestia finess wise will be right.

Its just the touch like you said.

Agreed, it’s a shame but it’s not the end of the world.

As much as I hate the shorter quarters they do allow a greater sense of flexibility with players returning from injury. I we were to manage Prestia through the game and only play him 55-60% TOG that would be the equivalent of him playing less than two normal length quarters, that could be the perfect way to introduce him back into the best twenty two.

I really don’t want to get ahead of myself but if we were to win the game we’ll obviously have another week off and then the preliminary final. I would much prefer Prestia have a game until his belt potentially going into a Preliminary final rather than that being his first game in months.

Ultimately, we just have to trust our fitness and medical staff to make the right call.

At least Dion has a fair bit of time to practice his skills.

Hope the Lions take the same approach that has worked for them previously. They seem to always try the same tricks on us, with the same results.

I suppose if we are to go all the way we need Prestia. So better time than ever to play him in a final which isn’t the end of the season if we lose. No point doing what we did with Rance and having him sit on the sidelines because as soon as it’s a sudden death final you can’t bring in players who have missed 10 weeks of footy

My team for week 1 would be:

Vlastuin, Astbury, Grimes
Houli, Balta, Short
McIntosh, Cotchin, Lambert
Caddy, Riewoldt, Bolton
Rioli, Lynch, Castagna
Nankervis, Martin, Prestia
Edwards, Graham, Pickett, Baker

OUT: Aarts, Chol, Ross
IN: Bolton, Lynch, Prestia

Aarts is very stiff and may still play ahead of Caddy, but I'd personally prefer Caddy. I'd go with the one ruck, can't risk Chol giving us nothing in a final. Nank will just have to carry the ruck and can get a small chop out from Balta. Dimma said on Zoom last night that one ruck means someone else needs to give about 20 percent as a chop out. Anyone can do it really, I reckon, so yeah, I do think one ruck is a legit chance.

Yeah Caddy/Aarts are the only question marks.

Can we trust Nank as a sole ruckman against Stef Martin/Big O? Tough ask

I think so yeah. Soldo and Nank did nothing in last year's QF, Broad had 2 possessions. We still smashed em after their initial onslaught. Also Stef Martin is still just getting back to fitness. I think we can do it solo ruck :) What can Chol do against either of those guys anyway?

Yeah you're right. I was so much more comfortable when we had Soldo/Nank that if one got injured in game we still had another. Obviously you can't plan for injury but it was a nice luxury we had.

I think Prestia will play, if he is out of touch horribly can always get him to follow someone around. His fitness won't be an issue. Ball handling/skills might be an issue.

Plenty of opportunities to practice ball handling skills - not worried about his touch - it's judgement at speed that worries me - much harder to replicate, which is why we have seen so many kicks and handballs go astray this season and be picked off.

We don't typically tag so following someone around would be a bit unusual, but, there is plenty of evidence that pressure on Lochie Neale limits the quality of his disposal and effectiveness greatly. Wouldn't be the worst idea going.

Watching the 2017 Grand Final replay.
Amazing to think we won in 2019 without Rance.
Amazing depth.
You see different perspectives each time.
Caddy and Edwards brilliant in the first quarter.
Yeah watched the doco again on kayo today and thought the same.
Rance such a leader at the time, amazing how we pushed on.
