I believe they only pop up again in the byes due to the fact that it better enables them to avoid 5-day breaks in the fixture.

Nobody forgets because it is simply not the case. Those very rare players that immedietaly perform better in the AFL than VFL, are few and far between and would not have already spent their entire career to date in the VFL. (admittedly the covid years and his knee havent helped)

Lol - they "pop up again" because Channel 7 wants to show Football Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and the AFL is happy to sacrifice crowds in the middle of winter for more TV money.
That’s bs. It’s especially relevant with Cumberland as he’s playing one of the hardest positions on the ground and the delivery is horrible to him. I’d be really interested to see him at afl level.
