Don't know about that, the emotional energy exerted after a significant loss can do the opposite and perhaps especially when much is made of a match that a team should play like devils to honour someone who has gone. It sounds like it make sense but I'm not convinced it actually works and would not be surprised if it makes it much harder to perform.

Remember how our mob performed in the Tom Haffey game? Port last weekend is another.
Our performance in the Tom Hafey game is the closest I've been to throwing in the towel being a Tigers supporter.

Jeez Miller's come a fair way. I reckon most agree he'll go out this week, and he'll be a bit stiff. Part of a back line that kept decent opposition to 10 goals from 55 inside 50s.
That was always my argument for developing Balta as a forward. Reckoned finding the next Riewoldt was more important than the next Rance.
Balta was the most likely to make it as a forward with that hint of x-factor.
Miller & Biggie should make adequate backs. Or you pick up failed forwards such as Liam Jones, Schache to perform adequately back there.

Interesting selections coming up.

When Meatball is fit, he gets a another week's rest, then straight back in.
Miller probably loses out to Grimes, which is sad cause he deserves to play AFL.

But we have to build the midfield. So play Dow, or if they want him to rest post knee tweak, RCD.

JR probably back in, but he disturbs the structure of Balta and Lynch, so play him up the ground and floating 3rd tall. Which means we still need forward pressure. Interesting work for the coaches to maximise our game with so many players worth playing.

And of course Dusty straight back in when he feels like it.
I don't think Jack has half the impact up the ground Balta does. Jack plays deep and Balta covers the ground.

Perhaps I'm one of those flowers you're referring to ? Some real a$$holes on this site too. They're pretty easy to spot. They're the ones taking giant ******* steps backwards after shitting all over a bunch of club legends after R1.

Nobody is free from criticism about their playing or even their future, that's a given and I certainly have been critical of given performances on given days. This club has driven me crazy for half a century. But perhaps you've been on the dark side of the moon or something because some of the personal attacks on Cotch, Edwards, Jack, the MC, our recruiters, the coach and the Club as a whole went beyond the pale.

That's what I've been critical of because it was unwarranted and undeserved, especially coming from a bunch of armchair warriors.

Rather be a flower than one of those a$$holes any day. But hey, you be you.
I havent personally attacked a single player or coach, solid rant but full of dribble. Yawn

If players like Cotchin are deemed to be off limits to criticism, then this board is going to become quite boring. Whether people like it or not we have some aging stars who are coming to the end of their careers and questions are going to be raised along the way this season about whether they are best 22 locks like they have been or if a younger option is a better way to go.
Correct, some of these clowns are confusing this with personally attacking a blokes character. Too many posters too quick to reply with little comprehension.

Some here need to be careful... Jack is every chance to come out and kick 4!
I didnt realise it was maddies match, he has to play now. A poor game though, and I reckon the match committee are in a crap position.

I've spent the best part of 10 years trying to forget that. Not sure I've been filthier at the club.

Dedication games are stupid. They don’t make shit teams good all of a sudden.

Melbournes hiding in the Jim Stynes game comes to mind as well.

This board, in its heyday, was amazingly brilliant.
A cacophony of views, all treated with respect - some that at the time were not popular, but in the long run proved right on the money.
Put simply, our club made clusterf*** after clusterf**** time after time and there was an acknowledgment on both sides they had.
We didn't just arrive at being a dominant team by ignoring the f*** ups, we worked to improve and better ourselves and make smarter decisions. That's not to say we don't occasionally f*** up still, we just do less of it.
The personal attacks from some on here have made this a generally ordinary place.
If I say I'd like Castagna banished to the twos it's because he has been bloody ordinary for more than a year now.
It's no disrespect to his three premierships, it just means he's been bloody ordinary.
But bring on the attack.
You can't even debate or constructively criticise a player without getting vilified.

Forums are literally places for discussion. If you're looking for sunshine and rainbows and endless fluff pieces you're looking for the official club website not a forum.

I can’t recall constructive criticism being vilified. Belittling and disrespect gives me the shits and I bite.
There were two or three posters in the Cotchin thread that were pure trolling.
Enjoy the fact that we’re a strong club and the horror of the late 80’s and early 90’s is well behind us.

The Jack Dyer game was worse. Poor Jack died on a Thursday or something and we came out and got trounced that weekend, so the club declared that actually the next week would be the 'real' Jack Dyer game. We came out and got trounced again. It was shite.

We are just not that anymore against anyone

But he needs to be gotten right and not rushed back.
I've watched both St's games this year (impressive, I know) and they are in trouble. If we sat say Graham on Steel they're effectively neutered. This should be a percentage booster with the quality coming back in. You're right though, weird shit happens.

What I mean is that I think Balta has passed Jack as a main target. But Jack is so smart and so skilled that if free to roam he can be very dangerous. Get up the ground and pull a defender out, and his field kicking is sublime, along with his brain he creates scoring opportuntie4s at a high % of possessions. And then get back to dangerous spots. If Tom and Noah hold their best 2 KPDs then JR should monster their 3rd best.

really tell Jack to be where the other team doesn't want him to be. Let Noah and Tom do the hard leads and power work. I reckon use Noah further from goal where his speed causes defensive pressure and he has space to move and use his athleticism attackingly. Tom Lynch closer in, mainly, and try to get rid of the 2nd man up. Very very dangerous set up if we get it right.

Jack Riewoldt skin infection...
