Dimma on AFL 360 the other night was talking up allowing the medical sub to come on after half time

Not a bad role for Prestia- imagine a fresh meatball coming on after half time and racking them up. May help with those soft tissue injuries too, not having to be on/off for the entire 120 minutes
The problem with the the medical sub is you want your players to have a decent hit out in the VFL if they are not playing seniors. You don't want Stack, Cumberland, RCD etc sitting on the pine for possibly all game, they'd be better off not chosen than the sub. So Aarts stays sub again. Dimma is on to something for sure, half a game would be fine for the developing players.

When he's ready, we'll fit Jack in easily by just playing Balta higher, which also utilises Balta's strengths more effectively than static marking contests deep in F50.

When Jack walked into the club he was instantly marked down to be a likely draft bust by many who thought he was too slow and 'ran like a duck.'

He's never been quick, or tall, or strong by KPF standards, he became a champion because from his first games through to the 51 goals he kicked last year, he beats the best going around using his elite football brain.

That's what allows him to always find a way and though he's had a few down games most seasons, he has always, very consistently found a way. In those handful of down games, there was always a few who thought his career was on the slide and every single time he's bounced back to his best shortly after. IMO, it would be a brave call to insist that somehow he won't continue to find a way to remain a very valuable contributor.

As for a perceived lack of defensive pressure if we play him, all through the premiership years we played Dusty forward during large portions of games and for all his elite attributes, chasing opponents endlessly at top speed around the forward-50 like a man possessed to apply defensive pressure was never a feature of Dusty's game.

Agreed but also see it being beneficial to aging players who have a history of soft tissue injuries
Prestia I mentioned and maybe Lambert. Both have not been able to play out games. If you allowed the medical sub to play after half time, then these guys would be very damaging.
I’d rather get half a game of high level football out of them than seeing them break down all the time

Looking forward to the Saints clash. Will be a different type of game for us on a much smaller ground - far less space to spread and run, much more aerial and contested work. Suits a bigger team set up. At the moment, that is exactly what we have too.

The only thing I do worry about is going to tall in the forwardline. Balta will get lost because he will have no space to run up into and hasn't the forward-nous yet to create room in, what is likely to be, a very crowded F50. Jack will find space and thrive in these conditions while Lynch will attract defenders where-ever he goes. Balta may surprise me and work well with the others. I only fear the ball rebounding out of our F50 as quickly as it goes in without enough smalls/pressure to hold it in.

Some seem to think the Saints are a fair chance to beat us?

Grimes comes in for Miller but who does jack replace?
Can’t take out a mid, we made that mistake round one going in with too many talks and not enough mids,
Kinda wish aarts played so we could drop the kent

in any order but over the next 8-15 weeks i'd like to see sheds, cotch, lambers, caddy, meat, revolt (in any order) amongst our sub/s in a management capacity on our march towards finals.
young cubs like gibbo, hugo and dow likewise.

I didnt realise it was maddies match, he has to play now. A poor game though, and I reckon the match committee are in a crap position.
It's a big risk for Jack or any of the older blokes to miss games this year, because there is a swag of young talent itching for an opportunity and if you get enough chances eventually it's going to click and then the heat gets turned up even more on the older players if they aren't playing at a level close to their best week to week.
