I am surprised more has not been said about the sub. I have no problem with playing one tall defender less. I would probably drop one of the other two first - but it is debatable and not something to die in a ditch over.

I do have a problem with playing a full back as the sub. It is totally none sensical. I think the sub can be used in one of two ways:

1. A player who can have an impact once the speed of the game has slowed down. SO either a good older player who now struggles to see a game out or some sort of speedy, skillful player who can impact but for whatever reason is not good enough to play the whole game.

2. A sort of versatile player who is mainly there to cover injuries. A jack of all trades master of none types who can plug many holes but is not good enough to win a position on the pitch. Finlayson might be good sub in this sense.

BZT is neither of those two things. The only people he can replace are really Allir or Rat. And it's not like he could replace one of those two and they could do something else. And he is clearly not going to come and provide fresh run or forward half threat. Why would he be the sub?

Another observation. Allir has dropped off so much, he is unrecognizable from last year. He rarely marks the ball anymore. Rat is not worth what we paid. He has all the physical attributes but has no brain (in a footy sense)

I liked the idea of Zerk being on the bench against the Hawks because we would've went in too tall and had bad matchups as they have a lot of small forwards so I like the idea of Zerk not in the 18.

But yeah, I am not a big fan of the sub being our full back and those two types of subs you've named is pretty spot on.

It would have been interesting to see Zerk on Hardwick instead of Burton in that game.

People are bashing the tall backs but I am happy with them. They haven't let in big scores. They are a touch unco but overall, they've been good.

Actually the Hawthorn player McEntee tackled was going for the disposal. Even more htb.

I'm going against the group think here.

The rule is that with no prior if you're trying to dispose of it, and don't correctly, then that is play on.

The umpire was correct. It definitely wasn't HTB on Amon.

As someone that has umpired and stood in that hot seat, the first thing I actually learnt was that if you paid HTB for every single tackle where incorrect disposal occurred you'd pay 50 HTB's a game.

What needs to happen with the HTB rule, is we need to be stricter on players with prior. That is the frustration for mine. So many times players have a lot of time and the ball being knocked loose is called play on. If you've had significant prior I dont care if it is tapped out of your hand, that is holding the ball. But in the chaos of general play, with no prior you have to let play on go when the balls are being knocked free and players are trying to dispose of it. As long as the players aren't intentionally fumbling to advantage/throwing, which some do at times.

Amon barely has a step after collecting the ball, so its pretty harsh to try and claim he has prior opportunity.

And he's clearly making a genuine attempt at a legal disposal. Play on is the correct call here.
Yep.

The umps nailed it and luckily so did DBJ.

I'm busting to hear someone complain about the incorrect OOF paid against Jase in the dying 2 min that likely changes the outcome ;) Didn't hear it said on the radio call but on vid it clearly hits either his arm or shoulder post the leg. Funny how things turn out, even in a game where there seemed a big reversal in where frees were going in the last quarter. We were well down on that count up until 3qt.
I think that decision was reflective of the bias by the umpires in the game. In watching the replay, te controlling umpire asked, I think, from which team the ball came off of. And just assumed it was from below the knee, or just believed the Hawthorn player’s appeal.

Anyway, to draw from Barret’s assessment of the Ryder to Gray tap and goal, Hawthorn were stiff that there wasn’t a throw in as a throw in would not have led to Farrel’s free etc.

I wonder which coach differed with BOG?

I've been one of the doubters on Sinn but this little two week cameo has shown that he could be at least a solid half back flank type. Still can't see the high end talent that would justify pick 12 but I guess not every pick 12 ends up being Zak Butters. It's disappointing that we probably won't see him again for a couple of months.

I think the point is that if it was decided we didn't need the three tall defenders - drop one from the 23. It is like he was selected sub to make him feel better about himself.

I just saw video of that and the ball came off his boot and hit him in the face.

Let's just spam sack Hinkley every match review, it's sure to get the job done.

Hawthorn had to stop to keep that 36-0 run going, they were never going to win, they just didn't know it
You should know by now that the club does not give a **** what you or the other sack Hinkley ****wits think. You lot are a loud obnoxious minority. While the club is still getting 60000 members each year the board will do what it feels is the right move not come to big footy and read your same ****ing comments week in week out. Get a life!!
