This might make sense if he was keeping quiet about the coaching instead of defending it.

Do you actually still think Ken will be gone before his contract runs out lol?

I think Hinkley will be gone before Warren's three year board term expires. If we miss finals that will be the end of this year otherwise the end of next year. This is all coming to a head soon and we have the exact right man in the board room to represent us.

I've never been so bored in a game were we were technically level at 3/4 time. It was like we played the Norf role this week. They seemed to have a much better control of the game from the beginning.

Must be nice having big talls that can take a contested mark and kick it to another big tall who takes a contested mark.

I will go back and watch the first five minutes. Pretty sure that will tell you everything about this Port side.
We looked clean, committed, on and ready to go right up until Burgoyne kicked the first goal. That’s all the time it took before the half efforts, fumbles and everything else this group is allowed to get away with, set in.

After a tight 3 quarters.Carlton dominated the last qtrs centre clearances
Some big moments early in the last qtr for Cripps. We where beaten 5 mins into the last qtr.
Disappointing how badly we fell away. With the Blues recording a comfortable win .
Without Rioli all the heavy lifting was left to Georgiades. No big man presence up fwd.
Rioli a bulldog. He fights for the footy.Gets under his opponents skin.Slips out the back of packs.Tackels and smothers the footy.Realised tonight how important he is to us.
Unfortunately for us Carlton are a lot better balanced side over the field. With two good big key fwds how are very consistent.

lost the game at selection> 3 defensive forwards, what is the logic.
midfield was shown up as playing forward of the contest, especially the last quarter.
bergman needs to be rotated into the midfield, he is wasted on a wing.
soldo won the hit outs & did his best, but then lacks run defensively.
dixon is not fit, needs the fountain of youth.
burton> urrmmmm.

game plan has been the same for years and does not work.

rozee is not the antidote, but helps.

we can not beat quality.

lots of other stuff> but to angry. Another year of mediocrity. sigh..............

I just wish our board would wake up.

What do we need to see to get it through to them.

33% record against top 8 sides AT HOME at night, during Hinkleys tenure. I mean how does that happen. This isn't a side that has been down the bottom, this is an 8-4 team. Top 4, 4 other times.

A 50% record in night games against all opposition at home is appalling.

The losing.Showdown record despite our position above the Crows in 9 of Hinkleys years.

The lack of any level of success in any sort of big game.

Our appalling record away from home against top sides.

We just find a way to win what we should and are completely uncompetitive against any quality that takes it up to us.

You can't keep sitting there and saying it's not the coach. Even for the most naive, stupid stability fan, at what point does watching a side stagnate for at least 9 years now, start to trigger the need for change. We change EVERYTHING else, other than the god damn coach but the results don't change. The common denominator needs to go. It is time.

His position is untenable and the board MUST usher in change. Sticking with this stale regime is sucking the life out of our club.

I missed it, what did he say?

It was classic Timmy. Saying you can't pull the wool over our eyes ... as long-term, multi-decade watchers of football, we see when you come off the line, we see when you put in the short steps, when you don't go hard enough.

He was seething, almost to the point of shouting down the mic, it was a thing of beauty. And silence from Warren, but I'm sure he's under threat of removal if he says too much publicly.

I keep saying it, but our list is full of flakey flanker types.

Look good when the going is good, but struggle when the heat is on.

Matt Rendell after our 2021 PF exit did his summary of our list on FootySA and he said we had too many pretty footballers, who look good when the going is easy.

Since the end of 2015 I have said every year we will win at least 10 games and most years I expect in the 12 to 15 games range. Ive never pissed my pants like some on here and said we will be bottom 4.

In fact the only years we won 10 games was 2016 when we were decimated with injuries and basically played our Sanfl defence for most of the season and 2021 after our 0-5 start.

We are going to win 12 to 15 games again this year, but we won't go past the 2nd week of finals. With a bit of luck, we might make it to a PF, but we won't win it.

We have built a list that is able to win enough games, but not the big games when the expectations are big.

We need to recruit a few mongrel bastards who are driven to win, to ever win a flag.

I am an unabashed fan of Brayden Maynard. I'd love to have a couple of players like him in our team.

I read people on here criticise Boak and Wines go on about being a good human first and then they piss their pants whenever they see Maynard do mongrel acts on the field.

We wont win a flag until we get a few mongrel bastards into the side. Just look at how many we needed in 2004 to finally knock off arguably the greatest ever side in the AFL.

And a coach, president and ceo with a bit of mongrel in them would help so that they back up the recruiting of, and the actions of the mongrel bastards.

Personally I thought we were up for it in the first half. We were as sharp as we get around the ball. Winning key contests, winning clearances. We're just too untidy going forward to capitalise on it. Then the inevitable happened. You can't fire your best shot in the first half, still go in down, and expect to come out a winner. They were always going to get a run on at some stage, and having them lead us after we'd fired our shot was always going to leave them feeling super positive, and almost working them into the game.

Ultimately it did, we worked them into it, and then in the last quarter, someone decided in the midfield to just totally leave Cripps to just go wherever he wanted unchecked and that was good night.

We just aren't up to it. We're fundamentally flawed, and I agree there's just zero excitement watching this team and really I don't want to go anymore or watch anymore, feels like I just can't take anymore of this crap.

I assume our board doesn't care. As long as we're not bottom 4 and not heamorrhaging money it's all good and job done for them.

Try and draft a mongrel from gen z's good luck.
The games changed. Maynard types are a dying breed. It takes talent to play on the edge like that with the game as soft as it is now.

We just got physically dominated all night. We look great with ball in hand but when they have the ball it's just far too easy for big bodied teams like Carlton to waltz through us and leave us grabbing with one arm at thin air. In the end the pressure built and built and we collapsed completely.

We have so many players who regularly put in weak efforts. You get away with it against poor teams but the better teams make you pay. Burton's defensive efforts are truly pathetic. Marshall picks and chooses when to compete. Farrell is extremely weak in the contest. Houston for all his strengths is a liability when he has to defend.

Lots of players had nightmare games. Dixon didn't get near it. Zerk-Thatcher was horrendous. Jones reverted back to his continually overrun the ball panic merchant self. Soldo got destroyed by the Dutch Milk Maid.

MG obviously the main positive. He hasn't looked that good in years.
Live, MG looked fast too, he was the highlight,

Burton doesn’t like the western wing. I saw him pull out like he did in the 2021 PF against the dogs, exact same spot. How people defend this fraud is beyond me

So you just give up. You are no different than Ken.

Couldn't watch properly as I was working (Thursday afternoon still here) and don't plan to watch the replay.

From the bits I saw JHF and Mead seemed to be the only ones showing much commitment.
Obviously Georgiadis had a good game in our typically dysfunctional forward line.
Even when we were close, to me it seemed we were just hanging on. We never looked like getting a run on.

I normally don't tend to be negative about individual players but the other thing that stood out for me was that Burton appears to be striving for Nathan Lonie levels of softness.
I've never been a huge fan but he has always been pretty skilful and reasonably competitive 1 on 1.
Don't know whether he's injured or something but he'd be one of the first out of the team after the bye.

Agree with a lot of that REH, but I dunno. It's a different era now to 2004. Whenever a Port player plays on the line of the rules, we know the umps and trial-by-media come down on them like a ton of bricks. Not sure that a Hardwick-Wilson-Pickett-Carr would do so well for us now. At the same time though, I'd rather see that, and cop some suspensions, than some of the coftsock shit we are currently treated to.

Haven't you seen all the news RE a reserves squad? Hinkley has another out - lack of depth in the playing list due to not being in a national reserves comp. It's not Ken, it's the players.

Fact of the matter is they signed him up for 2 more years. He probably has a trigger clause for the second, making the finals will probably do it given how generous this club has been towards him. They won't call it before then.
