Autopsy Round 3, 2024 :Hawks fail against Cats

If Sicily struggles for a few weeks more, we may have to change up the set up down back.
On another note, gee, Sis would be a fantastic third tall frwd if one of Phillips or DGB could take his role down back. But I doubt it.

People forget Sic is not tall and is under the pump on the last line trying to defend 1-1.

I keep thinking about the days of us having Schoey and Tommy Murphy trying to play key position posts.

We really need to get that gorilla which will make everyone walk taller.
The one time we did manage to trade one in (Lake), he had a profound impact. I can't believe people here have been naively stating it was a good thing for us to miss out on Mackay! He has been one of the most impactful players for the bombers already!

He would have made a huge difference for us. The club was willing to pay him big dollars, so they have seen the need for a proper CHB.

I also think we need to do away with Mitch lewis. Controversial call but I can’t recall him playing a full season so he’s clearly not durable and when he does play, he struggles against quality backs. Has he ever gotten close to 50 goals??
At the very least he should be played as the 3rd forward, not sure why he’s so highly regarded. Hard to see anything of note in his career to date.

Cheers Chief . Looks like that moron was running amok with his d*ck picks and toilet picks.
Don't know if he is gone though, there is a new member just joined at 11:53pm who joins up at that hour unless they live oversea? I don't think we've seen the last of that flog.

I think the club was looking for the big fish to attract other big fish. It's fairly common for clubs to attract one big name, then all of a sudden every other big name wants in for a few years

Yes, the club also saw a gap in the list, but I don't think anyone saw blanck getting injured either

Because he isn't a pack-splitting full forward.
He is a lead and Mark, run all day CHF.

Obviously first quarter awful rest much better. Loved Chol Meek Worpel Frost I think the latter 2 with D’Ambrosio are top 3 in BnF as things stand. I thought Nash and Ward improved this week. Liked games from Ginni Watson CMac Mackenzie Scrimshaw Weddle D’Ambrosio Moore so future is bright. We got reamed by umpires and I rarely say that. Should have been a 3 goal loss not 6. Onwards and upwards this is a development year.

Of course the AFL don’t have different rules for particular players. Typical corporate response there. What they do have, is umpires basing decisions on particular players. I’d like to see Hawthorn come out asking specifically about what the afl plan to do about that.

LEWIS

8 marks against the Dons
4 marks against the demons
2 marks against the cats (injured)

As a CHF needs to be that link up player and doesn't look like it (Dons OK)

Hard to tell on TV but for people at the ground is he working hard and presenting?

i don’t like the lewis criticisms. From my watch he is presenting and working hard but we have more options now. He draws a crowd, so we are either going to him in a pack or to the players that have more space as a result.

getting chol, ginni, watson and gunston means the goals will be more spread. if we get 40+ from lewis and chol, and 20-30 from the smalls, then that’s a good result.

mitch isn’t hitting the scoreboard yet but he will have his days this year.

Went to both cats and dees game, and he was not really presenting up the ground.
Melbourne choked the arc which prevented his run.

Cats game he was out of position, don't know if it was workrate or instruction

Unfortunately, he can't get on the park consistently so don't really know what he can deliver.

His 8th season now.

Lewis gets up too high and does too much running back to goals to get a mark, he needs to stay deeper and present on the lead. Numerous times our mid fielders looked up and saw nothing presenting other than players streaming back towards goals with nothing coming forward at the kicker. Kicking over the top needs to be absolutely perfect, it stays in the air longer, because it has to be a longer and higher kick and therefore gives the opposition time to spoil and if it drops slightly short a uncontested mark.

If Ginnivan played for the Cats every single one of those frees would have been given and they would have named a stand after him
If I were Sam Mitchell I would drag Ginnivan everytime he played for a free kick..
Instead of trying to dish out a handball or help his team in anyway, Ginnivan just goes to ground and prays for a free kick. Its actually detrimental to the Hawthorn forward line..
If he was just raising his opposite arm to shrug off a tackle, that would be fine, but his instinct 100% of the time, is to go to ground..

Did you ever drag Selwood for the same? Over 15 years?

I expected to see a few more comments from those posters that have been fervently defending the selection of Reeves actually acknowledging that Meek performed a lot better and that our midfield as a whole was a lot more competitive and effective.

I wonder if the same vigour in defending Reeves with selective stats and other bluster will be reciprocated when defending Meeks position in the team?

Just been interestingly quiet!

(I get that Conway is relatively inexperienced)
You're kidding mate, beating a kid out of high school in game 2. Whoa hero stuff.
The guy can't even get off the ground at centre bounces.
2 mtr handballs straight to team mates ankles, great stuff.

The difference is, Selwood raised/shrugged to BREAK a tackle and create play. He never just dropped to the ground and played for a free.

The kicks tend to be on his head, and that’s always been his weekness. If he gets a run and a jump his contested marking is elite. Just not pack marks
