How did you rate Ginbeast Phil? Something definitely to work with- the boy has his body in good nick, works hard. His skills are improving- looked good to me. Just not sure where to play him- would love 3 of him but alas we have one. Definitely excited in what he will be. I'm interested in your opinion.

He is learning quite quickly however his athleticism is keeping him in the contest as until the ball hits the ground a lot of the time he just doesn't know where to be to impact the contest. He's flat footed while his opponent has already taken 3 steps towards the play before he takes off.

Gets drawn to the play rather than drawing the play to him. Tends to look better late in games when others are gassed and he still has speed and some gas left to burn. If we want an inside mid he has to be playing as a genuine tagger and always be keeping on the move.

Positives
-Petrucelle shows enough to get a trade pic from
  • gov/yeo great to see them playing well
  • Reid absolute superstar, rising star nom
-didn't roll-over when the going gets tough
-b.Williams is serviceable
-long and ginbey are slowly building

Negative
-Chesser and Petrucelle :(
-still waiting on cole/duggan to fix up there disposal and just play like a senior player should
  • maric injury
  • Waterman is struggling without oscar

Didn’t expect the win. But could see we made Sydney work for the win.

Finally won a quarter, but really we didn’t give up all day. Defended Sydney’s ball movement really well at times. They just had too much run and polish in the end.

Gov, Yeo very good. Nice goal from Kelly in the last.

Shame for Maric and Edwards. Hope both are ok.

Respectfully agree, you are fair- but still I think he'll be something special. Just don't know how or what but there's something special. Things to work on and improve and I think he can work on those things and improve. Thanks 👍

Positives +
  • Great effort and pressure from the team. We did well to block the corridor.
  • Harley Reid will be a future Brownlow medallist. SEVEN tackles broken in a game.
  • Yeo was probably our best and was in angry mode.
  • Gov in AA form.
  • Waterman worked hard and made the most of his chances.
  • Long was at the right places and showed some smarts. Even scored a goal.
  • Maric looked good before Darling friendly fired him.
  • Hough's shutdown job on Papley. Likely to be our next small lockdown defender we've been looking for since Shep.
  • Ginbey is a beast, more see ball get ball from him.
  • B.Williams was ok in the ruck against Grundy and did well around the ground.
  • J.Williams was also good in providing a target and even kick a goal out of nothing.
  • Hunt attacked well and showed intent. Maybe the Dees should've kept him.
  • Kept it to under 5 goals loss.

Meh =
= Darling worked hard and attacked the contest but was pretty quiet. The end looks near for him. Let's see if he can have multiple goal games. He may still be carrying an injury and is continuing to clean the rust off.
= Duggan was good except for his turnovers which is not what you want from the captain.
= Kelly was quiet early on but stepped up late.

Negatives -
  • Still at times allowed them to rebound the ball with ease due to not enough players guarding the forward line.
  • Effort dropped off at times which is to be expected from the young team.
  • Team lacking polish and some goal costing errors in the third term.
  • I have a feeling Chesser won't make it. Drafting him at the time was already questionable with his injury history then. Turned the ball over and is prone to skill errors and doesn't get into the right positions needed for a wingman.
  • Petch's brain fades and lack of intelligence.
  • Still too fumbly at times.
  • Maric and L.Edwards injuries.

Final thoughts.

Great effort from the team against a potential top 4 side. Although teams maybe onto something and will look to stop the Swans from going into the corridor. I think Ginbey should be the primary extractor who's main objective is to get the ball first at all times and then look to hand it off to the likes of Reid, Hewitt, Yeo, Kelly, Hall and a future draftee.

The team certainly looked better than last year and we have better players now that we've hit the draft more (no more WAFL standard players like West, Langdon, Clark and Foley). We may get Ryan and Sheed to play WAFL. Hopefully no more injuries in the next month at least.

Good effort until the last. Given the competitive effort we remarkable have a number who aren't up to the pace of AFL footy that are slow, reactive and don't get to the right places. We have some who lack skill as well. Showed in the end I guess. But to be within 26 with two 50's and some soft goals from poor disposal showed a real effort. 1712383875492.png

He looked pretty good working off Reid I thought. He did some nice things as a link player.

I'm glad you mention Shep as I had the same thought. Very quietly shut down a damaging opponent.

Had visitors during the last, I was polite. One asked; how can you play at the AFL level and not be able to kick. Its prevalent!
Part of the issue is 18 teams diluting the talent pool but Duggan has no excuses for his poor kicking especially unforced poor kicking.

Nearly smashed my tv when petch hand balled it off to waterman when he’s 25m out wtf was he thinking, waterman wasn’t even running towards goal he was going towards the boundary😂

Yeh that was maddening. You could even see the look on Jake’s face, he was like wtf bro…why you giving it to me?!?

Duggan was drafted as an elite user of the ball. He would be a bloody good player if he wasn’t such a turnover merchant and actually reliable (doesn’t need to be elite). Tough player and finds plenty of it and provides drive for us but undoes all of it by lacking a touch of composure and making turnovers even without the pressure

POSTIVES:
Reid
Hough
McGovern
Barass
Darling

NEGATIVES:
Main negative are Marics and edwards injuries
Duggan's disposal
Cole's composure

NEARLY POSITIVES
Chesser is getting more involved but lacks composure and confidence. Ideally a good spell in the WAFL but don't think that environment will help anyone.

Ginbey getting more involved and is not far from putting it together but just seems to lack that bit of confidence that Harley has.
