Autopsy Round 5, 2022: Hawks skin the Cats

I'm going to put last week's performance down to the boys looking ahead to this week.

Two sliding doors moments for me. The first when Reeves went off which turned the tide against us and took the boys time to regroup. The second was when Henry went off and the Cats defenders (aside Stewart) started to panic when the ball can in.

Praying for a similar performance against he $tains next Monday.
Playing Henry as practically their main KPD is a mistake. The guy is much more suited to the 3rd tall so he can help support in the air. There missing his intercept marks this year because he has had to sacrifice a strength of his game for the good of the team and I rekon it's not working.

Really happy with Worpel busting a gut this week, but yeah disposal by foot was terrible. Was a bit wet in the second half, so let it slide a bit. But it's weird cause he actually has great penetration with the ball, but the target is off. I reckon he needs to have a one-on-one with S.Mitchell about foot disposal.

I would give Worpel a go over Omeara next week. He did some ok 1%, but 1 tackle for the game! Was poor for me.

Geelong gameday thread is fun to read too. They seem to think the Isaac Smith boos show we are sh%@ supporters. It is more ironic from what I can tell?

So Chris Scott in his press conference attributes our early start to free kicks out of the centre and within 15 m of goal. No mention of the rest of the game, when the free kick count was purring along for them.

What a spoilt, entitled clown he is. Between Selwood and Scott has there been a pair of bigger sooks or more sore losers in the history of the game?

Just like his brother, he'll be given a cushy overpaid AFL job by his mates in AFL House. What a fine legacy. One day someone will write the riveting tale of Tallboy Polo McDouchface and Andrew Demetriou's Chamber of Sordid Secrets: Episode TB4 The Cheatening.

He looked more nervous than a long tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs...

Does he always fidget that much ?
Free kicks that were there. Doesn't like it when he gets caught off guard like his team were early on so is using that as an excuse. We were the better team when it mattered Chris just admit it.

I wish Geelong would sign Chris Scott up for another 3 years.....

A good old fashion win, plenty of skill, plenty of intensity, plenty of determination, plenty of roll up the sleeves and get it done, umpires against you and beating a team like the cats.

Great win
By the sounds of it the entitled mob we played today thinks the opposite. Never gracious always full of excuses. No wonder there disliked by a wide majority of supporters.

Magnificent win! So many great signs and so many young players were critical to the result - big upside to the side moving forward.

As for Geelong , every year it seems that a Geelong player dives and gets frees and gets away with it:
-selwood
  • dangerfield
  • ablett
  • hawkins
  • cameron
  • bartel

None of this is so consistent across a club as it is at Geelong. Just hope they flop this year and retire half their side already . If not for their home ground advantage they would have been long gone .

Go hawks !

Gotta say, props to Isaac Smith in the last 40 seconds of the game, to have the composure to slow the game down with that free kick, to secure the win for the Hawks.

Well played.
I love Izzy but I will boo him at every single game he plays for Geelong against Hawthorn.

I would’ve been stocked for him if he was playing in Melbourne’s premiership team last year.

Tom Hawkins ballerina fly in the air was impressive

good win today

Meh. We didn’t discard him, we offered him a decent contract. He chose more coin. Always be a hawthorn legend but for now he’s a cats player and nothing more.

He’ll miss out on a lot of the plaudits because we had a lot of great performances, but that was easily Josh Ward’s best game for the club so far IMO.

He definitely still has a few first year jitters but they will iron out with the more games he plays. If Duke didn’t play so well I think he’d be in for a shout for a rising star nom.

O’Meara is our current captain for a very, very good reason.

He shut down Stewart as a defensive half forward and, with Shiels as the run with on Dangerfield, they basically nullified Geelong’s best two players of the last 5 years.

What’s O’Meara and Shiels offer defensively is absolute gold.

Seriously. Have a rest.

You know what I enjoyed?

The fact that we kicked straighter than them.

It seems like for years we’d kick 11.14 and they’d kick 14.4 or something ridiculous.so suck it handbaggers.

On a more serious note, Jai in the midfield., great game. Mitchy Lewis a presence again and kept trying.

Moorey - moving towards being the premier small fwd of the completion.

Brought the game and the pressure today and generally kept structure. Great job

Foot skills looked a bit shabby at times hopefully more he plays the better they get.

Kid’s still finding his bearings at AFL level. Having Sammy ****ing Mitchell at the helm is such a boon for our young mids. Game time should tighten up the skills. Mitch will unlock their potential.
