Autopsy Round 5, 2022: Hawks skin the Cats

I was watching this game live at 3am local time for me, and I swear I could hear our group starting up the car to run over the top of Dad's Army in the last quarter.

Woke up today, watched the last, and sure enough it happened.

Incredible game for our development. t's not often our team is so 'on' that they've kicked three to zip without the opposition touching the ball. Has to re-fill the tank with confidence after last weeks debacle.

No coincidence that Ward and McDonald were up and about, and we won again. Just blown away by those two, Jai, some of the usual suspects, and the guys who have come into their own during the past 12 months.

There seemed to be plenty of occasions (including ones leading to a goal) when Ward passed it to McDonald, and vice versa. I'd love to think they really know each other's ages already, and will only get more in tune as time goes on. You beauty.

On Easter Monday it was 8-2, now 8-3

Only won 2015, 2018 and yesterday
Will never forget Easter Monday 2015. Was up on the Sunshine Coast watching at a bar and there were a bunch of Cats fans there. It was Round 1 and we were coming off B2B and Lewis and Poppy went nuts. We ended up smashing them by 10 goals.

Brad Scott says they ran at 50% accuracy on a penalty that's, aside from too may players on the field, the largest in the game. One that’s not easily missed, one that’s not in the heat of battle and chaos. Amateurs

It felt so good to be on the right end of another tight easter monday classic.

To smash them early and then run over them late was great to watch. Our supporters found their voice after the Hawkins dive and the atmosphere was amazing.

Duke announced himself. Not only to the masses but also to the hawks faithful as our new spiritual leader. Our next 'Hodgey'. Bit rough around the edges but as hard and courageous as any. His kicking is hit and miss. If he can start to hit more than he misses he'll be a hell of a player.

Such a shame about Reeves he was so dominant before going down. Was set for a breakout game also.

Noticed this too, knew the conditions and naturally understood what he had to do. Never tried to get out the back cheating and hoping for an easy goal, just kept being right where the ball was coming off the marking contest and was super clean with it.
His knack for finding the ball I50 is incredible.

I mean, what the hell was he doing all by himself in the forward pocket late in the game when flip munted that checkside?!?

I rewatched the game because I loved it.

Geelong really should have wiped us in terms of personnel.

That was a win based on coaching and sheer effort and enthusiasm from our new group. We looked like a very confident group. The ball was not bouncing our way at all in the third, but we just kept at it.

Would be keen to know what other changes were made in the 3rd quarter time break (aside from O'Meara move) that stopped their flow so effectively.

Newcombe, Moore, Scrimshaw, Lewis, Ward, CJ, DGB, Reeves and McDonald are the basis of an extremely good crop of players.

I got pretty pissed yesterday and have been a bit busy today to rewatch the game in full... what are you referring to when you say the OMeara move?

Ironic that it’s mr coaches box whiner who’s pushing this.

But why stop at any player anywhere on the ground? Include the coaches and the bench. Let’s employ some. More umpires to police it, take them from the lower leagues

Just reading the Cats board and its hilarious. What I find most funny is then sooking about Hawthorn using ducking tactics to draw free kicks.

From what Ive seen most are ok but yeah its incredible some are pushing this .

Old contending team being beaten by a young side openly rebuilding , if I was them I would be a bit worried too🙂

Just on Smith.
Hes a great bloke and a champion player.
Dont blame him for taking the $$$ at the Handbaggers but a few good natured boos are to be expected.

I hear hes short odds to take out their 'best young player' award this year too.
He’s a ripper bloke and will be welcomed back to the club anytime. I never begrudge a player taking the financial security given the chances of long term injury.

Selwood needs a bronze statue of him ducking and drawing a free. He is the best.

Does the Cats board sook as badly as our board after a loss? We have some outstanding dummy spitters.
He needs no statue, he needs to be wiped from the memory of the game except some footnote at the bottom of a wiki page saying this man single handedly ruined the entire sport by inventing a technique designed to bring the game into disrepute - in fact in another sport he'd be a pariah.

I’d imagine the cost of living in Geelong is a lot better than in Melbourne. Especially if you plan to retire that way. Either way I’m not saying booing isn’t appropriate, just that I don’t think there’s a strong depth of hatred for Isaac from Hawks fans.

I don’t want to say Hodgey to Mitchell but I’ve said it.
